Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Despite the bad taste of the prep, it doesn't help to chug this stuff to "get it over with." I sipped the prep over a period of 30 minutes, and used a timer so I wouldn't feel any need to rush. You can also keep a piece of hard candy -- like a lemon drop -- in your mouth while sipping the prep. The candy helps to kill the aftertaste following each. This makes it easier to tolerate. Do the same with the two 16 oz. glasses of water to follow: 30 minutes for each glass.

I don't understand the issues people have with this. Yes.....it doesn't taste that great but I got it down by sipping through a straw in about 20 minutes and immediately chugged the required addition two 16oz of water. After that and 20 minutes later it worked. No cramping or headache. My only issue is that my foot fell asleep while sitting on the toilet! Part two in the morning.

I took the first dose as directed at 8 PM. Bitter, salty, fruity, chemical tasting. Not pleasant but bearable. I used warm water because I had throat surgery a week and a half ago. And then I BRUSHED MY TEETH. It totally removes the after taste. Drank the plain water watching tv. By 8:37, I went to the bathroom, and had impressive results considering I have been on semi solid food for ten days. I just stayed in there for about half an hour then came in to lay down. I will get up again when done with this post. I got adult diapers and diaper rash ointment and was all ready for this crazy situation, and this has been so manageable. Tomorrow morning, will do the same thing. Then off to the center at 1pm. I have had no cramping, no gas, no discomfort.

Update, was able to sleep from 4:30 to 7. All went well, pardon the pun. Next time I'll start the process at 3:00 PM.

Mine is at 9:00 am and my doc's handout said to start at 6:00 PM with the first and finish the second 4 hours before the procedure ( at 5:00 A.M.) The other handout says start between 3-5 PM. Go figure. I suspect everyone gets the same instructions no matter when their procedure is. His printout said to allow 2-3 hours overall for the first dose. It started to work 7 hours after I started the first one, I kid you not. That's 4 hours after I finished, not so far out of line with what a couple others said. An hour on and off the can and then to the second dose. I have not started that yet. I'm curious about why people's instructions vary on the times. I'm looking forward to the anesthetic so I can get some sleep

Just had my first colonoscopy today. I'm a 51 year old woman. My husband had his in the spring and endured movieprep and vomited that so I asked for something different. I was given suprep. I had a light breakfast yesterday morning consisting of toast and 2 scrambled eggs. After that I drank water and had orange jello, sucked on some jolly ranchers (green) and also gummy bears. I was kind of tired of the citric taste but I was surprised that I wasn't more hungry then I was. Lunch was vegetable soup with the pasta etc strained out.

I was to start the prep at 6 and so about 4:30 I took a nap thinking I'd be up late. I mixed it with cold tap water. We chilled my husbands prep and I was thinking that may have been why he threw it up (btw...he ended up taking OTC Magnesium Citrate and was cleaned out fine). I had a bowl of chicken broth (again just strained out the pasta) ready along with 2 large glasses of water (one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom). I used a straw to drink it down but towards the end I just chugged it. I didn't want to mix it with another clear liquid because I didn't want to ruin the flavor of that drink, plus I didn't know how the flavor would mix with the suprep.

The solution wasn't something that I would sit and drink while watching a movie, but it wasn't horrible. I sipped chicken broth right after and then started chugging the water. To me, that was the most difficult bc I was full and felt a little chilled.

It took maybe 45 mins to have anything happen, and it wasn't constant. I was in and out of the bathroom all evening. I was able to make it to the bathroom without any issues. I went to bed at 10:30 and slept no prob until about 3:30 (not unusual..,I wake up at night due to my husbands snoring). I came down and had Gatorade, I was a little worried as I didn't go as much as I imagined i would and I was still having brown watery stools. My second dose was to be at 6am (my procedure was at 2pm). The second went down fine along with the water.

Then it seemed to be more often and soon I was passing clear fluid.

The colonoscopy itself was fine. I am good for 5 years.

same dose because your colon is the same length, has nothing to do with your weight or height

Believe me it will work, I'm sure it has by now. While I thought the taste was completely disgusting I managed to take both doses. Since I'm not a good water drinker had trouble getting down the two bottles of water but did it..sat on the toilet with my book and drank.. in one end..out the other. Good luck.

Lynkidd...read posts 565-568. It might help and then again it may have been posted to late to help. Also, if you are having your colonoscopy in the early morning they usually ask you to do both preps the same day

Okay - I finished my first bottle of the Suprep a little over 2 hours ago. This is my first colonoscopy, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I will say that it took about an hour and a half before I had to go to the bathroom after finishing the first bottle. The first bathroom trip was a little loose, but pretty close to normal. About a half hour later I began really going to the bathroom - seriously- it is like peeing out of your butt - and it doesn't stop - it's like Niagara Falls! The first trip there was warning, after that you don't even know when it's going to happen!

It's extremely difficult to drink the amount of water they tell you to afterwards too!

The taste is HORRIBLE - I vomited in my mouth a couple of times (I mixed it with Apple juice instead per my dr). It is obviously supposed to be grape, doesn't smell bad, just tastes like grape cough syrup only worse - it's thick, not quite a syrup but not a nice drink either - and nothing gets rid of the taste afterwards I swear!

What I'm more concerned with is that I am sweating bullets, have the chills, have somewhat blurred vision, and my feet and hands are painfully numb/asleep - ESPECIALLY my feet/legs. I am light-headed/dizzy and have an awful migraine! Is this normal? I literally cannot walk or even stand without support right now because my legs are too numb and won't move!

Also, I see that most people took the two bottles on different days, but I was told to take them 3 hours apart. Has anybody done this before? I should have started the second bottle a half hour ago, but I'm nervous to start it because I feel like a) there is nothing left to clean out, b) I'm worried if I take it I'll pass out if it makes me even more light-headed, and c) quite honestly, there's no way for me to walk to the kitchen right now to pour it because my legs won't move!

Worst tasting prep I've ever used. I will never ever use it again. It was foul!

Rub Ambesol around your mouth, drink suprep solution at tap water temperature. You will be fine. Ambesol deadens the taste and the rest will be easier. The harder part was drinking all the water after. Good luck

Apparently you can tolerate drinking just about anything because the taste was so awful i cringe just thinking about it.

I took the first dose of Suprep at 9:30PM and the taste was nothing like i was told to expect. It tasted like weak grape cough syrup. I filled the cup with water and drank that at 9:45PM when I first went to the bathroom. Honestly it's not as bad as people have said, I was in the bathroom until 11:50PM and asleep by 12:45AM. None of the explosive parts people spoke of, but I did experience minor stomach discomfort for 5 minutes after I drank dose one. The morning dose has been pretty similar sans the stomach discomfort. All in all not even close to a *bad* experience, this is not to say it was fun by any stretch.
