Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

This is a great thread, and was very helpful. I am just back from my first colonoscopy experience, and first Suprep experience. These posts helped me feel at ease and I want to pay that feeling forward! Mine was $60 with insurance, I was surprised, but what can you do these days?

I didn't find the first dose to be terrible, I had more of a hard time with the liquid diet before that, which made me feel nauseous. My doctor's office recommended a liquid protein drink that tasted so bad that it gave me a headache for which I successfully took two tylenol. Another good tip I read was to buy regular chicken soup and strain out the broth rather than buying that awful tasteless cooking broth - it was SO SAVORY. I did the same with wonton soup, but that actually upset my stomach. I tried the straw for the Suprep, but not enough got through at a time. Gulping was better, and the lemon licking in between helped a lot, too. It's tough to gulp down the 32 additional ounces of water.

My first dose took at least an hour and a half to work (from 5pm), but I had gone right before it (who does that??!) due to the wonton soup, I guess. Once it worked, I was in and out of the bathroom for a couple of hours - what came out looked like the strained soups all night! I slept from about 8-9, bathroom break, and then 10-3:30 when I had to get up for the second dose.

Second dose was not as easy, as it tastes horrendous at 3:45am but I got down about 4/5 of it and then turned to the water. I only had an hour till I was cut off from fluids. Within an hour, what came out was clear yellow and I could see the bottom of the bowl. I felt better by this time, just hungry.

After that, the rest was not bad at all. The feeling I got when the anesthesia went in made my face feel like the way Snapchat maps out faces for the filters but that lasted two seconds and then I was waking up drunk in recovery. I am clear for ten years! Nothing to worry about but the hemorrhoids that I already knew I had, and now I have a picture of them :-)

I'd do the Suprep again, gross as it was. I also did a low fiber diet for the couple of days before the liquid diet. Did it help? Who knows. All I know is that it's true it was way worse in my imagination than it was in reality, and I am high anxiety. Good luck to everyone reading this because it's time for your first one :-)

Mine would've been $80, I refused and called office and got a free sample and my sisters insurance covered hers completely.

First I called and asked my Mom. She had used it. She told me that she threw up 30 minutes after the first dose. So did I. The first dose didn't work right away. I saw a lot of people on here that said it did and I thought I did it wrong or something.. But it started working right before the 2nd dose. The 2nd dose IS harder to drink.

This stuff is absolutely the worst! I've thrown up, broke out in a sweat that drenched me in a matter of minutes, now I'm freezing and haven't started the second bottle. All I want to do is throw up and the idea of having to drink more is overwhelming. There has to be something better!!

That is how mine was! Nauseous and chilled and slow working.

This is my 4 or 5th colonoscopy. I find the trick to not tasting the liquid is using a straw placed as far back as u can and u won't taste the liquid. It really works. I wish the tablets were still in use. No prob swalling 34 tablets than this liquid stuff. But tabs won't cleanse as well Dr. says.

I followed a low fiber diet for almost a week before the prep. I had trouble before. My Doctor did not suggest any other diet but the internet had suggested it. I also drank a lot of water every day. It helped start my process a little faster. We'll have to see if I have good results.

I'm on my 3rd colonoscopy. The procedure is much easier than the prep. Suprep is awful. Made me want to heave. Couldn't get to the stool a few times. But while at the hospital and seen other peoples problems; how can I complain?

OK. Im writing this because I was freaking out about taking this because of everything I have read. Im now convinced only negative people post on these forums so I decided to post my experience in the event your stressing and have anxiety about your colonoscopy and the bowel cleanse (suprep). 1st, im a 49 yr. old M and am going for GI issues as opposed to just a scan for polyps . Would have had to go anyways at 50 so my GI said to go now to see what's going on with my colon. I followed a LOW FIBER diet 2 days before procedure and of course the liquid diet the day before. I placed both btls of suprep in fridge along with a 33.8 oz. SMART WATER ( electrolytes) . At 6:00 PM the night before procedure ( set for 9:00am) I mixed the 6 oz. bottle with 10 more oz. of the cold ( smart ) water to the line on the cup that comes in the kit. I used a big ( thicker) straw to mix it and drink. I did the whole 16 oz. in 3 parts. Didn't taste anywhere near as horrible as i heard even though i bit on lemon slices in between. I swear to you, it wasn't that bad for me. Then I drank a room temperature 16 oz. water within next 15-20 minutes. I was told to drink 2 16oz btls within an hour. I started my 2nd 16oz water around 30 minutes after finishing suprep mix, and felt my first urge. all I can say is it liquefies everything so just be prepared that you feel like your peeing out your butt.. just being honest ...that's it. No pain, No bloating , and No nausea ( other than drinking a total of 48 oz. of liquid in an hour) . my first bout lasted around 2 hours total and must have went 12x to 15x so just stay close to toilet. Again it was just pure liquid coming out and it was 100% OK .. I now believe some people experience chills or teeth chattering from what I read because they drank all 48 oz. of "chilled" liquid on an empty stomach , so I drank room temp water ( again, I used SMART WATER) after the 1st dose which was chilled. slept from like 11:00 to 4:00 am ( set clock to take 2nd dose). this time no lemons needed and i drank the 16 oz. mixture in 4 parts through the straw this time. started 2nd bout literally within 15-20 minutes and was clear to slightly yellow. drank two more room temp btls over next hour and left for procedure around 8:00 am. I was in FULL PANIC and ANXIETY mode. just my makeup I guess. They took me back to nurses area ( prep area) to sign some more forms, go over my med history and meds, got undressed, put on gown, and laid on the bed. Nurse put in the IV ( fluids) , set up the BP , o2, and heart monitor stuff and then anesthesiologist came to talk to me and lay out how it all works. he saw my stress and anxiety level and gave me a mild sedative in the IV to calm me down. it worked right away and took that edge off. here is the best part for me, they wheeled me to the procedure area , told me to lay on my left side, and my DR says, Ill see you in recovery room .. that's it.. I went out, came to in around 90 minutes and it was over.. Nothing.. I promise you.. don't do to yourself what i did and research and read and make yourself sick.. that's why I took the time now to share my experience.. and by the way, one medium size polyp was removed and 2 biopsies taken. have follow up in two weeks with GI to go over.

Tried it for the first time. Took my first dosage at 6:00 PM as instructed. It's now 3:00 AM and it's finally working. Taking 2nd dosage now instead of at 4:00 AM.
Needless to say - I'm thinking not everybody's reaction time is the same.

I just had a colonoscopy today. I took the Suprep split dose. The flavor was acceptable, though not particularly pleasant. It gave me notable cold shivers and mild nausea both times. But that did go away after about an hour. It took an hour from beginning of the dose to the first high-volume movement and about another hour until it was basically done. No major discomfort from the diarrhea.
The second dose took effect a little quicker for me, but I also took less time to drink all the water.

After the second dose it started working within 15 minutes. Went for two hours and the done. Drove 1.5 hours to the test. In at 1:30pm out at 2:15. 30 minutes in recovery and on my way home. They found three small polyps. Have to go back in 4 years. Glad it is over. The prep was not pleasant but worth it. Drank Coke as soon as I woke up, that was great.

Just started first battle at 5:20p. Stuff does taste bad. 6oz of suprep mixed with 6oz of water and 4oz of Gatorade. Still nasty. Got done drinking mixture at 5:30pm. Big gulps followed by little sips of ginger ale. Let you know when things start to move. Feel little bloated and half way done with first 16 oz of water.
