Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Okay folks. Full disclosure. I was a total wimp when it came to prepping for a colonoscopy. In 2013, I was given that huge jug version, and made it only through 1/4 of the prep, and then, I could go no further. I had to cancel the surgery the next day. Feeling like I could never do it, I confirmed that notion when I took a sip of the Suprep which my wife used earlier this year (2015). I gagged just on that one sip, and thought, show's over, never gonna be able to get a colonoscopy. Well, I was goaded by my wife (bless her) to try one more time, which I just did this weekend. Proud to announce -- Success! Made it through both preps without a great deal of problem. To get ready for it, I landed on this website and read EVERYONE's prep suggestions. And then, I did my own regimen. My regimen is for those people out there, like me, who think they will NEVER get thru it. (Mind you, this weighed on my conscious for 2 years until this past weekend). The regimen I ultimately used combines a lot of the tips found on these pages (supreme thanks to all of you). Here it is in explicit detail...My first prep needed to be done at 5:00pm. One day before that time, I placed a jug of ice water in the fridge, along with the two Suprep solutions to chill them up. 4:50pm, I sliced up a lemon into eighths. I filled a small glass with clear apple juice. I put out a cap of mouthwash. I put out one 16 ounce bottle of water. And then, it was time to begin. I poured the chilled solution into the plastic cup they provide you with. I filled it with water to the 16 ounce line. I then poured that mixture into a normal glass that I use at dinnertime (the psychology here being that it wasn't a foreign, medical-looking dispenser I would be drinking from, but something I was very familiar with). I inserted a long straw I obtained from Starbucks. I poured one slim packet of Crystal Light lemonade into the concoction. (Both my nurse from City of Hope, a leading cancer institute, and my brother's nurse back in North Carolina had said this is permitted and wouldn't mess with the Suprep process). Stirred it all up. Last big piece of business, and most important: I clamped one of those potato chip bag clamps securely over my nostrils, effectively blocking out breath.

I looked like a clown, but who cares? The point was to breathe strictly thru the mouth. Taking in one to two large sips in the long straw (the long straw is recommended - the point being the more farther removed you are from the glass, the less you will smell the mixture -- that is KEY), I swallowed, then immediately bit into a lemon wedge and sucked down some of its juice. Then, quickly take a swig out of that 16 ounce open water bottle, gargle, spit, gargle, spit, and on and on, until you don't feel any liquid in your mouth. Maybe take a very small sip of that apple juice. Then, without waiting too long, step back over and take another two or so big sips of the Suprep mixture, and repeat the above methods. It's best if you're watching a TV or reading a magazine or doing something to sort of distract yourself as you go to sip. Your nostrils will more than likely fill up with mucus, so definitely have tissue handy to quickly blow it out, but don't breathe in through your nose, just clamp that sucker back again. For the first prep, it took me only 7 minutes to get the whole mixture down. For the second one, it took more like 12 (a little more difficult to do it early in the morning -- tip: if you have to do the second one around 4am, be sure to get up at 3:30 and just wake up. Watch TV, or surf the net for a moment, but WAKE UP, before doing the second prep, just to get your body ready). At the end of each prep, take a swig of that mouthwash, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle - be sure not to swallow any of it, and just spit it completely out. Polish off the rest of that open water bottle with gurgling and spitting. Get your mouth completely cleaned out. DON'T remove the clamp on your nose yet. As you attack those subsequent water bottles after each prep, try to leave that nose clamp on for about half of the time you drink the bottles. This will ensure you won't have any residual taste/smell lingering in your mouth. Well, there you have it. Sorry to be so explicit, but hopefully, for those of you who REALLY, REALLY dread this, like I did, perhaps this will be a help.

I took the 1st dose at 6 p.m. last night. Fought and tried hard to distract myself from getting sick. It took a little over an hr before I went the 1st time. Have been on and off the toilet all night and morning. I have a terrible headache and next dose is in 2 hrs at 10 a.m. I hope this goes better than the first round. Going to try a straw this time. It was cold the 1st round d but still had trouble. Had people praying for me and I think that is the only reason I didn't get sick. I will not ever do this again.

I will NEVER use Suprep again! Had a very violent reaction. Not sure what happened. Within 15 minutes of my first dose my abdomen pain shot up to 5+ and my left shoulder started pulsing with sharp pain. After consulting with my on-call doctor from my gastroenterologist's office we made a joint decision to continue the prep as I had blood in my stool two weeks earlier. For my past two colonoscopies over the previous 15-years I had used GoLightly. Although I do not like GoLighly at least I did not have a violent reaction. Short story long after my procedure my abdomen pain continued to be uncontrollable. I ended up in ER and being admitted to the hospital for 4-days. Fortunately my blood tests and a CT scan did not show any major issues. However, my continued shoulder pain over a week after the procedure is quite concerning. Have a follow-up appointment with my gastroenterologist but I am working to get in sooner.

Just used the Suprep kit 2 days ago. I didn't think the taste was as bad as the reviews stated. Just stood there and downed the whole thing. I immediately down the two16 oz glasses of water. I sat up in my lazy-boy and watched the telly. 45 minutes later was launch time. 2nd bottle was at 2:30 in the morn. Hard part for me was no sleep. Got only 3 hours sleep between 1st bottle launches and beginning 2nd bottle.

It tastes terrible. I don't know how I'll get through the second bottle. It started working after about 30 minutes and I've gotten sick about 30 times since. Not sure I can finish this. It's no fun!

I am a 50 year old paraplegic who normally uses digital stimulation to evacuate my bowels. When using Miramax and powerful to prep, as the doc ordered, I was nauseous and dizzy during the cleanse. Years later with my next colonoscopy prep I was the same way with the Suprep but Suprep worked so much faster and better. To combat the nausea I kept hydrated with glasses of apple juice and cold water. In 6 hours o was completely cleansed and passing clear liquid. Also talk to your doctor before the day of your procedure so that he can add meds to your IV that will reduce the incidences of feeling sick or getting infections after the fact. I WOULD RECOMMEND SUPREP TO EVERYONE. IYLT IS FAST SND EFFECTIVE.

I took mine at about 5pm. About 20 mins later i was on the pot. It is now almost 9 pm and i am still having bloats and squirts. It cleans you out. I had a colonoscopy two years ago and prep was a killer. This is not bad. None of it is good. Regardless , it is good to your colon cleaned sometimes.

This is my first experience with colonoscopy prep. I had no particular dietary precautions until the day before the test, except for avoiding foods with skins (like tomatoes) or small seeds for a few days. My doc suggests taking 1 oz. of Milk of Magnesia at bedtime the night before the day you start the prep, which I did. I also bought "extra gentle" baby wipes, "extra soft" TP and, per the doc's advice, some hydrocortisone creme. These all seem to be working well and I urge you to get all three. For me, the hardest thing has probably been the clear liquid diet, but I've managed to make that work. I really didn't have any problem drinking the first Suprep-water cocktail. I didn't even have to add the powdered Crystal Light that my doc says is ok to add. It started working in about 20 minutes. Minimal cramps, but like many others here I have felt chilled. Two hours after starting the first half of the prep I would say I'm pretty much already at "pale yellow liquid," so I have hopes that tomorrow the doc will say that I had a good prep. I have to get up at 3:30 tomorrow morning to finish the prep. I'll try to navigate my way back here to post a follow-up after it's all over, but so far I would say this is easily at least one notch better than the typical medical remark that it's "well tolerated" (which translates in English to: horrible to experience, but leaves no permanent scars).

Before using the stuff, I read a bunch of reviews: The net for me was that suprep does have a 'cherry sweet/awful' taste. Cool the prep and mixing water, used room temp water for the 2 glass 16 oz followers. Drink it fast, wait about 10 minutes and then a lot of visits to the WC. Have a new roll of paper. Do it again as prescribed and that is it. It worked much better than the older stuff. After about 2 1/2 hours, the show was over each time. No cramps, headaches, vomit, etc. Just a some what unpleasant 2 days.

Going on 4 hours. NO BM yet! Next prep in 2 hours. Don't know if I can keep that awful stuff down!

This is my first time using any kind of laxative, I am prepping for my first colonoscopy, took the first bottle at 5 p.m. in about 20 minutes later had my first bowel movement than 10 minutes after that had another bowel movement. No cramping really that test wasn't as bad as I thought. I do feel chilled since taking this so I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I had a slight headache within the first 10 minutes of taking it, but that has subsided and I still have the chills. So far it has not been horrible and that is coming from someone with a low threshold for these kinds of things.

I am about an hour and a half since I first took it, and I'm glad I decided to just stay on the toilet because there was a lot more cleaning out very watery, but no cramping. I'm about to get up off the toilet but stay close to the bathroom the chills have subsided and so has the headache as mentioned earlier.

If I have an 830 am colonscopy, when time frames should I be taking the 1st and 2nd doses of suprep?

First time using Suprep. All prior suggestions are great. Drink it very cold, use a large straw to avoid taste buds. And the key is prepping for the prep, no pun intended decrease your fatty food and fiber, stick to the strict Liquid diet the day before. Started working for me within 15 min. Drink only what they recommend unless you like to spend time in the Jon. Only took 1-2 hours to finish and felt pretty good the whole time. Cheers

Just started first battle at 5:20p. Stuff does taste bad. 6oz of suprep mixed with 6oz of water and 4oz of Gatorade. Still nasty. Got done drinking mixture at 5:30pm. Big gulps followed by little sips of ginger ale. Let you know when things start to move. Feel little bloated and half way done with first 16 oz of water.
