Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Good grief! Do the explosions ever stop? I drank the first batch at 7pm and the water started blasting within 30 minutes. At 1:30am I still was not able to leave the bathroom. I took batch two at 2:00am because I was afraid I would not be able to make the 45 minute trip to the hospital at 6:15 for the procedure at 7:30am. It is 3:30 and I am still having explosive water. How long will this last???

Has anyone else who's had trouble with the Suprep noticed a very acidic taste in the mouth, which has persisted, at least for me, since I took the prep several weeks ago? Also, is the abdominal pain that you felt very high up, just under the sternum?

Took my first dose @ 6pm followed immediately by the required 2 extra 16oz glasses of H2O. By 6:10, all I had left to do is wait. Exactly 1 hr later, I have diarrhea blowing out of me like water through a firehose. I am dreading the second dose at 4am this morning.

I wish that I had found this site before taking this prep. I had a normal colonoscopy, but really had a horrible time getting this prep down. My doctor's instructions were to take both doses, in the same evening. I had and continue to have abdominal pains so bad that I had to have an endoscopy about two weeks after the colonoscopy. I think the suprep is responsible for my continued problems. My pain is very high up, right in the middle (does not cross midline) and at times, is very severe. I have a hiatal hernia, which was diagnosed during the endoscopy, but I also had stomach and duodenal, as well as esophogeal irritation . I would bet my bottom dollar that it was due to the suprep, since it's a coincidence that I was fine prior to the colonoscopy and have not been the same since. I don't recommend it. I had taken the pills with the last colonoscopy, and although they gave me chills, I had no abdominal pain after I was emptied out. If you have a sensitive stomach, or are allergic to sucralose (splenda), I would not recommend this prep.

Thanks to everyone on this site who shared information about the Suprep and their colonoscopy procedure. I finished my exam today and it was fine. Many of the things that I read here were so very helpful. Here are some notes about what I did in case they are of use to others.
I am 5’ 2â€, 135 lbs, female, my procedure was on a Thur. at 10 AM. I changed to a liquid diet Monday afternoon, drinking water, Gatorade-- primo 01 (Mon, Tues, not on Wed because of the dye) and then Gatorade G2 clear, juices, coffee, beef and chicken broth. This was earlier than required but I didn’t want to have a lot of solid food in my system. I focused on being hydrated, keeping my body nourished with the juices, broth, and Gatorade, drinking something all the time, and getting a lot of sleep.
On Wednesday morning I used some preparation H in the morning, just to start medicating the area. I repeated the preparation H just before I started the prep.
At 4 PM—I started, the taste was not good—make sure you mix it with a spoon or else the medicine will sit on the bottom of the cup and be really concentrated when you get to the bottom. I drank 5 -6 sips and then I took a stick of gum and broke off a small piece and chewed it to get the taste out—then got rid of the small piece of gum. I repeated this until the cup with the medicine was finished. It took about 20 minutes. In between I walked around. I started on the 2, 16 oz cups of water-- these were easier to drink but it took me about 30 minutes to finish each cup because I was so full. The process started at about 4:50 and continued until 7, so I had to finish the water as the cleansing started.
Logistics: Before I took the prep, I set up the bathroom with music, my computer, a stack of reading that I wanted to go through, several bottles of water and Gatorade (but honestly, after I drank the suprep, the Gatorade had enough of a similar taste that I mostly drank water). I actually did not do much “wipingâ€. Basically, I would flush every 5 minutes, then drink something, then repeat. I wanted to keep hydrated and this routine helped. After things finished, I showered, used preparation H, and then put on a depends- Just do it, it’s easier than having to worry about things. I made sure that I drank some broth, juice, water and then to bed early.
The second prep was at 4 AM. It was a lot harder to drink, I did the same thing with 10 sips interrupted by gum. This time it took 30 minutes to finish and also somewhat longer to finish the water. I finished the 2, 16 oz of water by 5:30. Again the cleansing started about 50 minutes after I started and stopped about 7 AM (3 hours).
Materials Purchased: Case of Water, Gatorade primo 01, Gatorade G2 clear (ice punch, mixed berry, watermelon/strawberry), white grape juice, white cranberry juice, swanson’s organic chicken broth, swanson’s beef stock, herb-0x chicken bouillon (easy packets to take to work), gum, preparation H, mom to mom unscented wipes, depends

This is my third colonoscopy; the first time with surprep; never again will I use this ; besides the awful and syrupy taste , now 5 weeks later my small intestines are still not the same and I do not have regular bowel movement

I used it last week. It tasted like cough syrup, very sweet, but you have to drink 16 oz of it...so I found it hard to swallow. I took shots of gingerale between swallows. I tried using a straw as others suggested and that didn't help so much. Nothing really helps you just have to drink it....and then the 32 oz of water after is nice.
The side effects that I had were a very bloated stomach, and my blood pressure went up and stayed that way for 24 hours.
After the colonoscopy, it took 5 days for my intestines to be normal again.
Good luck!!

Took first dose at 5 pm (3-1/2 hours ago) and still waiting. Took the 16oz dose and 2 16 oz glasses of water in less than 5 minutes. Wondering if I over diluted it. Got cramping but nothing else. Next dose at 2 am. This has been so underwhelming.

I tried to focus on someone that I really love...my grand daughter...and seeing her face in my mind helped...but it was painful. It is the gas that they put in to open up the intestines that hurts the most. But every time I told the doctor that it was too much for me he stopped and released some. Thanks for your kind words.

I could not imagine having it done without anesthesia....I would have to meditate or something! My friend who has cancer recently had it without anesthesia (just to save money)....I really feel for you all!

At 4 am I started my second dose of Suprep. It was easier than the first. I did have a spiked blood pressure reading all night. But now I am home from the colonoscopy...I didn't use anesthesia. It was hard and painful but my doctor was gentle and stopped and released the air flow when it hurt too much...he said I was very brave. I would definitely do it again without anesthesia...but I wouldn't recommend it....it really hurt.

I am doing a colonoscopy tomorrow without anesthesia. I'm nervous but I have had very bad reactions to drugs in the past.... I was also afraid to take the surprep. It took me around 40 minutes to take the whole thing. I took a gulp and waited 10 minutes to see if I reacted to it and then when I saw that I was ok...I downed gulps of it holding my nose and used a straw as others suggested and between the gulps I took shots of cold gingerale...that helped. It was hard. The taste is not so pleasant. And one hour after I took my first gulp I had to run to the bathroom. I shook violently for an hour and quarter...I'm not sure if that was nerves or the medicine. I did read that other people had terrible chills. My stomach was terribly bloated too. I am definitely not looking forward to my 4 am medicine.

Prescribed for Colonoscopy. Tastes like grape flavored sugar water with a half box of baking soda mixed in. Drank through a straw. Sucked lemon wedge to get rid of bad aftertaste. Worse part was the full and bloated feeling after drinking which was relieved half hour later after trip to bathroom.
Was in bathroom 2 hours. Mainly passing all the fluid I drank prior to drinking the solution. The less you eat the day prior, the easier your elimination will be. Second dose was easier because I knew what to expect and because I had a lot less to eat or drink.
Does irritate the bum area. I think its from the acids in your stomach. No side effects. Could do it again withouquestion

Just finished my first bottle. It took me the entire hour to get the first, second, and third 16 oz. down. That first 16 oz. was horrible tasting. An hour before I started I was to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. In an hour I am to take 4 Dulcolax tablets. And, then the second bottle of Suprep at 6 in the morning. I am going to do it earlier, because I am an hour away from where I'm going. I have this every two years, and this has been my least favorite prep.

Did my prep with Suprep yesterday for my first screening colonoscopy and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Was not sure what to expect as the experiences posted vary widely. My doctor directed 2 doses the day before, at approx. 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. I'm more of a sipper than a chugger but managed to get the first 16 oz down pretty quickly at 12:00 p.m. Within about 15-20 minutes started to feel pressure like had to pass gas, barely made it to the bathroom. Had no cramping or pain at all, just lots of toilet time. I was chilled but thought it was due to being in a very small powder room with the air conditioning vent close to toilet. Did the second dose at 9:00 p.m. as directed, had similar results. Didn't drink anything after midnight, only had to get up once during the night to pass more fluid. The doctor said I had an excellent prep and the procedure itself was a piece of cake.

I took my first dose of Suprep tonight, at about 5:00pm. It's now a little after 10pm, and while I'm still running to the bathroom quite often, I am pretty pleased with this product versus the Golyte (sp?) that I used in the past. As a Crohn's disease patient, I am somewhat used to having to use the bathroom constantly, so this part isn't bad. The worst part was about an hour after finishing the Suprep, I felt horribly bloated, and had feelings of nausea... luckily that passed after I laid down for a bit.

The taste is not pleasant, but it's not NEARLY as awful as the old gallon jug of plain ol' "brine." I like that I didn't have to drink more than one glass of the stuff, and then just had to drink lots of water. Such a relief from the previous times I've had to prep for colonoscopies.

To anyone who will be trying it soon, just remind yourself of the importance of it while you're taking it. Compared to the alternative, this stuff is a breeze, and we should all be grateful that the pharma companies have finally developed something easier for us. I wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy outcome!

hi, hope all went well. Yes, the chills vary--I did get them, just snuggled under the covers and wore a robe.

I have been experiencing bad chills! I'm freezing! Feels like the flu. Other than the chills and aching it seems to be doing its job.
