Updated

Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

I completed the prep only by the grace of God

I did a lot of praying too, Cheryl, from 2-5 a.m. when my body was rejecting the stuff. Hope all is well.

I just did this last night and had my colonoscopy this morning. After reading this discussion, I was not looking forward to this bowel prep. However, for me it was not nearly as bad as what people have said. I know everyone is different, but the Suprep tasted like cough medicine. I mixed it with Sprite and chilled it really cold... in the freezer for a half hour. It was almost slushy. Not bad at all. I also mixed it in a bottle, rather than drink from the cup they provide. A sip of water between swigs and it was all good. Worked as it was supposed to. Two days out, all I ate was two bowls of bran flakes. I think that helped clean things out prior to the clear liquid day. Also, I think a lot of it is your state of mind. You're not drinking Kool-Aid, it's medicine.

This was not nearly as bad as the old gallon of go lightly. Not a fan of the flavor as it reminds me of cough syrup which I hate. But overall not bad if you drink it mixed with cold water very quickly. Keep a tube of A&D ointment close by to keep from being irritated and trust me, use the ointment BEFORE you need it as a preventative. Suprep worked very quickly, within ten minutes on the first dose, within twenty on the second dose. Lasts about three hours for me. I also got very chilled during this process.

Hi - I just read your comment about Suprep on medschat. I just had the same experience prepping for my colonoscopy tomorrow. If everything is clear, is it ok to skip the 2nd dose? how did it go for you? It wasn't so awful, but I'd rather not repeat it tomorrow if I don't have to!

So glad to hear that you got chilled as well! I just took my first dose at 6 p.m. and now it is 8:41 p.m. (almost time for the second dose) I'm dreading it but the actual drinking isn't that bad -- not NEARLY as bad as the old Go Lightly!!! What a name!!! But I have been getting colder all evening and it's HOT here so knowing that is apparently a common side effect makes me a bit more comfy.

I just drank my first bottle at 6pm and it did not taste all that great but it was doable. However I vomited the entire thing up after about 15 minutes so I am not sure if it will work. Its been an hour and 1/2 now and I followed it with 2 more bottles of water, still nothing.

This is my first colonoscopy and I was prescribed suprep. Mixed first dose with water and it was terrible!! Second dose I mixed with lots of icy water and had a Popsicle on hand to eat before and after sips. Also tried holding some ice water in mouth then take a sip of suprep with straw, kinda helped a little them followed by another gulp of water. I was up periodically during the night with diarrhea so I didn't plan on drinking the whole second dose. Had chills and slight headache. Nothing too bad. Good luck to u all!!

Colonoscopy prep 101
1 as directed- I chilled 6 oz. prep and mixed with cold chilled water.( use as directed )
2 I sprayed some cloroseptic sore throat spray in my mouth swashed it around and spit it out. ( this deadens the taste buds a little).
3 Take a few deep breaths, and drink the mix . If you can chug it better to do that, but drink in as few attempts as possible .
4 As soon as you drink the mix I recommend starting your clear liquids, a soft drink first to help remove flavor of prep. Then whatever you prefer for the other 16 oz. (I had to get 32 oz of clear liquid in that hour.)
5 From start time on took about an hour to really need to go.
From this time on don't cough, sneeze,or fart unless your on the throne.
6 Have your bottom pretreated with prep-h for greater comfort. Good Luck!

I tried this prep tonight. I managed to drink it all and about 28 ounces of water, but was very nauseous. I unfortunately was not able to keep it down and now have to start all over with an alternate prep. I am SO tired of drinking! The alternate prep is magnesium citrate and laxatives. I hope this works in time for my 11 am appointment.

Magnesium citrate works wonders! I get it at the drugstore.

I also had the chills and shaking. Very upsetting.

I am having my first colonoscopy tomorrow morning at 7:45. I started my prep at 2:00pm. It tasted like medicine but it wasn't unbearable. I didn't have any problems keeping it down. Although I would use cold water and in between sips, I drank some regular water to wash taste away.

just curious if they were able to do it for you. I am so sick to my stomach after the first dose and I am not sure how I will be after the second dose.

I used a few tips from prior users that were helpful: 1. Eat a low residue (low-fiber diet in the days leading up to the prep. 2. Drink the Suprep very cold and with a wide straw (kind for shakes and smoothies). 3. Between swallows of the Suprep take a sip of chicken broth. I think the salty taste of the broth negates the salty aftertaste of the Suprep. I had no cramping at all. It worked pretty fast so don't wander far from the bathroom. Good luck.

I hadn't prechilled so added about 6 ice cubes and let them dissolve for awhile. It already has a fruity flavor so adding more flavorings might be too much.

I drank about 4 oz at a time. Sucking on an ice cube inbetween helped with the salty flavor. No naseau going down. That's later when they have you drink more water. I think their plan is to get the goo through your stomach and dilute it once it's past the point of no return. Took 1.25 hours to go through.

Beats drinking half a gallon like we used to do. With a stomach-emptying drug that gave me temporary Parkinsons. (Benadryl was the antidote.)

Now having taken the morning dose, it was a lot tougher to keep down. I recommend having ginger ale on hand.

I suggest you keep a small glass of apple juice next to the prep so in between gulping down the mix you can take a swig of the sweet that clears your taste buds of awful fruity salt.
