Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Glad to hear that! Do it again in 5 years or whenever your doctor recommends. Better safe than sorry.

Follow up to posts 289 and 290....colonoscopy was a piece of cake thanks to Versed...put me right out. One tiny polyp removed. Hope I don't have to do this again in 5 years!

Recommendation: Do not chill the prep. Use tap water and you'll avoid the chills part. Also, you all stress yourselves out before doing the prep. No wonder it's traumatic. You've psyched yourself into thinking you're going to suffer. It's not that dire. You WILL feel bloated after drinking 48 Oz of fluid. That's a given. It's helping your system flush itself. You won't be bloated long. Good luck to all who take the Suprep. My last prep was a non-event. It helps that I've done them before. Just be thankful you didn't have to drink a gallon of GoLytely.

I am a 36 year old female who unfortunately had to experience their first colonoscopy on 3/22/13.

After hearing the horror stories of prepping for the procedure I have to say that I was extremely nervous.

I took my first dose of suprep at 6pm on 3/21/13 and within 10 minutes I was in the bathroom every 5-10 minutes for the next couple of hours. 3 hours later, I went to the restroom for the last time and was able to dose until my next does at 1:15am on 3/22/13. This dose was much worse than the first for there was pretty much nothing in my system because I had tried to sleep for a few hours This dose took about 20-25 minutes to send me to the bathroom and I continued to use the restroom even once I got to the Endoscopy Center at 6:15am for my 7:00am colonoscopy.

I recommend that you drink the suprep as quick as you can and to space out the water intake of 32oz over the required hour. I made the mistake of dowing the 32oz soon after the first dose only to feel bloated. The second dose left me feeling somewhat nauseous and bloated from the extreme liquid intake. Also, due to the amount of cold liquid...please make sure to bundle up. You will feel extemely cold.

After the colonoscopy I have experience diarrhea the last couple of days and the doctor has assured me that this is normal. The first bout of diarrhea occured within 10-15 minutes of eating a light breakfast.

Good luck to everyone...the prep is worse than the procedure and you can get through it!!!!

It's 6:55am and I'm leaving for my colonoscopy. Didn't get much sleep after the second round...maybe a half hour. Hope I'm ready...am down 1 1/2 lbs!

It's 3am and I just chugged my second dose of suprep, again mixing it into the Propel bottle...a bit more difficult at this hour but I got it down in under a minute. Chased it with a bit of chicken broth and now working on two more bottles of water. For some reason it's much easier for me to drink copious amounts of water from a bottle as opposed to a cup. One more bottle to go....feeling a little nauseous ,,,having some ginger ale to calm my tummy and walking around a bit. Hope this doesn't take too long....I want to get back to sleep! More to follow...

This is the worse prep ever! Took the first does at 5pm per orders of the dr. Couldn't hold it all down and vomited part of it up. The taste is unbearable. If rather chug nitequil than take this. It took 4.5 hours for it to work. Still eliminating brown water at almost 3am. I'm suppose to be taking the last dose in an hour. Overall, I'd take the prep that involved the Gatorade in a heartbeat!

Let me begin by telling you that I'm a 60yr young, 5'2", 119 lb very fit woman. I took my first dose of surprep at 6pm. I emptied out 6oz of liquid from my black cherry Propel and poured the surprep into the bottle. I drank that down in a chugging fashion. It tasted like a watered down salty cough syrup. I then had a few spoons of chicken broth which totally removed the aftertaste. I than drank down two more bottles of Propel. At 7:40 I first visited the bathroom. On the throne for 8 minutes...back at 7:58 for 5 more minutes. Will update later as the evening progresses. Did get chills after all the drinking but feeling better now. My second dose is at 3am. Colonoscopy at 8am. More to follow ....

I knew nothing about low fiber diet until this morning, when I read this forum. Tomorrow morning is the appointment. Yesterday,I had a particularly high fiber day with oatmeal, nuts, seeds, apples, blueberries, and brown rice. So I had two cups of "Get Regular" Yogi Tea this morning and got a good head start on cleansing. Just took the first Suprep dose and surprisingly clear. I still worry about those nuts tucked away in there, though.

Best tips for first dose: Use a liquid you like besides water. I used cold, flat ginger ale. Bite into a fresh lemon or lime before and after each series of gulps. Hold nose and take a series of 5-7 big gulps. *Keep holding nose* the whole time to avoid most of the taste. Keep standing for a while so space in stomach for the liquids, seems to help with nausea. Be prepared for chills with space heater, hot water bottle or heating pad. I was very worried. Everyone sharing has been helpful.

Luz - If you're old enough to have Medicare or AARP, one or the other has a Nurses Healthline, where you can call for advice. I believe it's 24-hour service. You might want to give it a try.

I am having an awful headache after the first sips of the SUPREP solution. It feels like migraine. I tried and tried but headache continues. I can't have tylenol, because I develop allergic reactions to it. So, I guess the only thing to do is to call the doctor tomorrow and ask for another laxative. Has someone had this experience or have a suggestion? I appreciate it.

I am up early taking my 2nd dose...it is going easier with my new plan...I mixed the dose as directed using water...I have a fresh banana Popsicle and a pile if sugar to dip it in...I have a stainless bowl ready and a large glass of warm water...I am drinking the prep using a straw, then swishing with warm water and spitting this out into the bowl, followed by a cold banana Popsicle dipped in sugar to scrape the taste off my tongue and deaden the back of my tongue somewhat...drink prep...gulp warm water to spit...scrape tongue with sugared popsickle...sip plain water...and any combination of the list to just get through the terrible taste...drinking last evening's prep did not go as easily, though I have not had cramping or vomiting thanks to The Lord! I am a 56-year-old female at 5'5" and 112 lbs. I just completed a couple of rounds of antibiotics a few days ago, so having diarrhea for the past couple of weeks helped me to not have cramping... Otherwise I would probably have had a harder time from constipation...I wish you the best and hope this has helped !

It sounds like you're saying you used Magnesium Citrate alone before your colonoscopy. I had to take 10oz. of Magnesium Citrate an hour before I started the Suprep.

Taste is bitter, probably due to the sodium benzoate preservative. Can't understand the ridiculous price (~$83). My last colonoscopy was performed after Magnesium Citrate for a few bucks over the counter and it tasted much better.

My appt. is at 12:30 today. My doctor instructed me to do a clear liquid diet yesterday and do the first prep at 3PM, the second at 7PM. I did GoLytly 10 years ago and I think the Suprep is an improvement. Taste is still awful, but at least you only have to drink 2 16 oz doses.

For the first dose, I mixed it with cold water, then started gulping. About a third of the way through, I started holding my nose and that made a huge difference. I was able to get it all down in about 20 minutes, then the 32 oz. of water in the next hour. My biggest problem was the chills which I was completely unprepared for. I wish I'd thought to look this up online before I started instead of after the first dose LOL! It took about an hour to start working, then an hour to be pretty much done. After reading other people's accounts, for my second dose, I held my nose, took 10 gulps, then a sip of apple juice to clear the aftertaste and again got it all down in 20 minutes. Went to bed at midnight, have had a couple of incidents this morning, but the liquid is clear, so I think I'm good for the procedure. Hopefully I won't have to do this again any time soon.

Second to last paragraph repeated, with corrections:

"If you're concerned about the colonoscopy you're having, don't be. I had one once before and the only noticeable thing was the initial insertion push, which was no worse than a medium BM. After that I didn't feel a thing & was fascinated watching the implement thread it's way along my colon. (If you're so inclined, ask the Dr. to turn the TV towards you so you can watch.)

The worse thing by far in the whole procedure was the prep. If they could only do without that ...."
