You will still need to wait at least 72 hours, before the Oxycodone will be effective, due to the Suboxone blocking it's affect, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

First of all, he said subutex, not suboxone. That being said, 16mg is quite a bit so I would wait at least 24 hours. You won't go into withdrawal as it doesn't contain the same naloxone that suboxone has. You might not feel it though as the subutex is still working. No need to take such high dosages of subutex when 4-8mg a day might be sufficient. It lasts for a while and keeps you at bay. I was taking 80mg of oxy a day and woke up and took 2mg of subutex and feel great. My fear is the restless achy legs as I can't function when they're going nuts.

Tanner,

I see where you were taking the same dose of oxycodone as me per day & then you also woke up the next day and took 2 mg subutex and felt fine. Do you or anyone else know what would happen if I took a 30 mg roxy right now? Would it do anything to me since I only took 1/2 a mg of subutex in the past like 18 hours?? Thanks in advance anyone that might or could help me.

They didn't take suboxone! They took subtext! Big difference! The one has narcan the other does not ! She took the one that does not! Subutex and suboxone only have a 36 hour life in your system !

My daughter is taking subutex as "treatment" for opioid addiction. Under a great deal of stress (caring for a severely disabled family member), she has been smoking Percocet. She tells me she is still taking her subs. Is this even possible, to do both at the same time? I realize I can't "make" her quit, but I would like to at least give her the best possible advice about what to do to get off the Percocet smoking?

This is an old thread but subutex and suboxone will block other opiates that is what they do. It is the bupernorphine that does this not the nalaxone. The nalaxone is inactive unless you try to crush the pill down. Bupernorphine blocks the opiate receptors to all other opiates because it is a special type of opiate. I used to be a pharmacist so I am not just pulling this information out of nowhere. The nalaxone doesn't matter at all unless you break the pill down. Even with subutex other opiates will still be blocked. Sorry. That is its job and why they use it for people coming off other opiates. But because it is a type of opiate it does work for pain as well but on its own never given with other opiates because there would be not point.

I have been on Subutex 8mg for about 3 days now. I break it into 4 pieces and take only one of those pieces a day. The last time I took one was this morning around 10AM. I also have a script for Percocet 5mg. How long should I wait before I can feel the Percocet? For a better understand and reference: I'm 110 lbs and thin built.

The subutex will block the action of the percocet so she will get no benefit from smoking percocet and taking subutex at the same time. If she has been on the percocet for a while the subutex will cause her to go into withdrawl. It does also hit opiate receptors but in a different way not nearly as strong as percocet. Using both will give her no benefit. Subutex is used mainly to get people off of other opiates including percocet. Like I said it does this by blocking the action of any other opiate but itself and it's effects are much lower than that of the other opiates.

Roughly about 5 days is the usual but it can be as little as three days. Try to take one dose of your regualr medication and you will be able to tell for sure if the subutex is gone from your system. It doesn't take very long for the effects to subutex to leave the body.

As I have said it doesn't make a difference whether you take subutex or suboxone. The narcan is completely inactive unless you try to mix the pill with a liquid to administer it intravenously, then the narcan begins to work. This is a fact, not an opinion. It is the main ingredient buprenorphine that blocks other opiates from working. The narcan is not an issue if you are taking the pill as directed. The narcan is bound and not active unless it is separated by a liquid. Subutex or suboxone will block other opiates, that is the job of buprenorphine. If you have trouble believing a pharmacist then look into research on how suboxone is made and it's delivery of the narcan only if the pill is tampered with.

Curious 80

It's obvious you are highly schooled in the use of these opiate replacement / assisted protocol rxs just curious what you did to loose your license? I'm new in this field and the amount of time dedication and hard work I couldn't imagine anything worthwhile to loose the fruits of your labor not to mention the financial commitment it took. I guess like your name sake I'm just curious lol pun intended...,

I am completely schooled on those matters. I even took classes in pharmacy school I didn't have to take specifically on the subject. This board wasn't put here for people to insult each other so if that is your intention you should switch to twitter. Don't speak about other people like you know about them. I am not telling people anything about protocol, just how the drug works which you should know if you as schooled as you seem to believe you are. Do the research, bupernorphine is a partial agonist, it bumps out all other opiates but itself and sticks to the receptor. The amount of naloxone that even enters the blood stream through regular usage of suboxone is so negligible the body doesn't recognize it. Think. If it did the bupernorphine couldn't even be useful, it would be blocked as well. People in this thread can believe me or not, I only give facts. Go back and read the FDA reports when suboxone came out or read even the doctor leaflet that comes with the drug. The naloxone will only activate if you try and misuse the drug. It is simple science. I don't need to throw insults to prove I am smarter than someone. I have actual hard data facts. Concern yourself with someone else. I am trying to help people and you seem to want them to have misinformation. And I was curious about this forum in the beginning hence the name if you must know. Like I said the information is there in black and white for all to see. I am simply trying to help those who cannot read the words used in the complex scientific writing. I have seen no evidence of what you are saying from you or from any other reputable source.

First time with subutex tablets (54 411) - Can you take percocet while on it?

Lol. I feel the same way about the little achy legs/restless leg syndrome. I can handle any other part of a withdrawal but not the RLS. When that kicks in, it drives me out of my mind.

Lol as to the RLS. If there's one thing I can't stand that's the achy, wiggly legs/restless leg syndrome. And it always hits at night when I'm trying to go to sleep

No you don't. I took subutex this morning, and percocet just an hour ago and am fine... as long as it's subutex and not suboxone you can take them in conjunction with one-another... physicians prescribe them together... suboxone is completely different than subutex... suboxone has naloxone which is what we give to reverse opiates so NEVER take suboxone and an opiate together. Subutex has straight buprenorphrine, no naloxone, no withdrawals.

i have never been so confused in my life. i have a double masters degree (neither one in pharmacology ) but i am not an uneducated girl. that said i thought taking any opiate within say 12 hours of subutex would give you super bad withdrawal symptoms? i have taken 3 8mg subutex in the last day but my dr wants me to be on percocet (5mg 2 every 4 hours) for a week until i'm off lomotil and my surgery site is better healed. i'm really just hurting now but have been trying to wait until at least 12 hours passed to avoid the nemesis...RLS. am i agonizing for nothing? it's been 7-8 hours since my last subutex. am i safe in taking the percocet now? thank you all for sharing and helping out those of us in unfamiliar territory.

Re: Teena (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Why can't you make her quit? You're her Mom, and she's doing two things wrong. 1, she's flirtin' with disaster by mixing the two, smoking percocet and taking Subutex. There's all kinds of things that are wrong with this scenario, but you might have to get creative to get her to knock this off. 2 is obviously the law. If she's prescribed the Subutex, where's she getting the Percs? I don't think from a doctor, yes? Take something away from her that's important, negative reinforcement, or set a goal for her to quit and reward her with something she likes.. Positive reinforcement.. Good luck hon..

Re: Sara (# 23) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Sara, I live with chronic pain, and I've been on several types of pain meds, as well as PT, Injections, Spinal decompression's, etc. About three months ago my PM doctor introduced me to a new kind of Pain Control. It's called Buprenorphine buccal film, and it goes by Belbuca. That being said, I decided to give it a try. So far so good, and it's only been three months. The medicine is basically Subutex that's been designed to offer pain patients the benefits from a short acting med,as well as a long term one. These are 12 hour films that adhere to the inside of your cheek and remain there until they dissolve, 20 minutes or so.You get the full med ,100% absorption, and your on your way. I'm very happy with this med. It comes in various strengths, so I started out on 300 mcg, and a month later was adjusted to 600 mcg, and I think I'll be happy on this dose. Let me know if you want more info, ok?

Re: Curious80 (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

Wrong. THEY ARE DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS. Subutex/buprenorphine has no NALOXONE (BLOCKER), whereas SUBOXONE does have the "blocker". Depending on the amt you take of either would be the determining factor of as to when it would safest to take "hopefully prescribed" said medication. About 12 -18 hrs for subutex. About 24-36 for suboxone. But really, a person is usually flagged for narcotics once prescribed for SUBOXONE. So good luck with all that.

Hi, I need some advice please. I'm thinking about giving up Percocet and going to Subs. Does anyone know how hard it is to go from pain pills to Subs? I need some advice and help please. I'm 58 in pain but I'm afraid eventually they will take all pain medications away from us. Thank you so much. I think I'm ready to give them up before they take them away from us.
