Suboxone Dose

Updated

I am on 8 mg og Suboxone a day. I take it at 6am. I know it should last atleast 24 hrs, but it seems as if I go to sleep during the day, I wake up sick. Is this possible, that when I'm sleeping my body burns off the suboxone quicker?

No, that doesn't make any sense. When you are asleep, your metabolism actually slows down, so if anything, it should take longer to process a medication.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this problem?

It is highly possible that the current 8mg dosage you are on isn't enough for you.

Another problem that may cause you to wake up sick, has to do with the same slowing of your metabolism when you sleep. And it has to do with if you are eating or drinking anything, before you lay down. Are you doing this?

When you do this, the items you ingested tend to sit on your stomach for a much longer period of time, than they do when you are awake and active. In many cases, this does result in nausea and vomiting.

I just started seeing my sub doctor and quickly found that 16 mgs once on the morning is usually what gets me through my day, but I'm doing the same thing as you. If I take a little nap during the day, I wake up sweating and feeling like I did before I took my dose. So I try to stay awake all the time when I do need naps sometimes considering my work schedule. I can't take any extra either bc I only have enough for 16 mgs a day untill I see my doctor. I don't feel like I should need more than 2 but this always seems to happen to me..anybody have any suggestions or answers to my problem? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Does taking an opiate even though you are on suboxone do anything for pain? I have read that your receptors are capped and that you will not get a buzz. Does that mean that the opiate will not work on pain because of the capped receptors? Thanks for your feedback. Please keep in mind that I am not suggesting anyone do this because it defeats the pourpose of taking subs. Is there any pain pills that work that are not addicting besides Advil and such? Thanks so much

My Dr has me taking my dose which is 16mg a day four times a day. I think it helps spreading it out like that. Seems like it keeps it in your system better. Idk if that helps u any or not. Good luck!

When it comes to dosing, it is recommended that you do it in the morning because the Suboxone lasts 32 hours. If you are referring to the "euphoric effect" wearing off after you sleep, that's entirely possible after a nap for some people. I discussed this with my doctor and he has me taking half of my dose in the morning and the second half later that day if I know that I will be taking a nap. If I am not able to take a nap that day I just take the entire thing all at once. You really want to get away taking it when you "need" it because the medicine is in your system whether you feel the effects of it or not, for 32 hours. Then there's the half life which is why you don't have terrible withdraws coming off of Suboxone because it naturally weens you down all by itself. Being addicts though, we were used to taking something about every six to eight hours and you need to break that habit and use different thinking so not to trigger yourself into using Suboxone as a substitute for what ever your drug of choice was. Talk it over with your doctor and be honest, you might be surprised. It's a little different for everyone. Good luck.

Yes thats exactly what I do too.. my dose is split onto 1 Suboxone strip 3x a day. My body burns it very fast. If I were to take a SUB at 9:00 am by the time 12 noon comes my nise is literally running, my eyes feel popped out of my head, and im very edgy. At first I thought it was just me so I brought it to my doctors attention. Sure enough, my body is burning right through it. So yes, what you feeling is very possible. Talk to your doctor about splitting your dose. Be careful tho.. dont take your last dose too late in the evening because youll have difficulty sleeping then. Hope this helps. :)

For someone that takes Suboxone regularly, at roughly the same times everyday, there is no 'euphoric' effect lol. There is being sick, then there isn't being sick period. People who are on maintenance don't experience a euphoric effect it just gets them well, this is due to the build up of naloxone in your system which eventually completely prevents your dopamine receptors from receiving anything and this lasts for up to 1 year prior to maintenance, this is why it is harder to get off of suboxone maintenence than it would be to get off normal opiates.
