Sprintec Vs. Mono-linyah

Updated

I've been taking Sprintec regularly for about a year and a half. I just got my prescription refilled at a different pharmacy and they gave me Mono-Linyah. I want to know what the differences are, if any, between the two. I've been told before that switching birth controls can cause you to bleed and have adverse effects on your hormone levels. I do not want to take the new prescription if the effects will be that drastic, I would rather return this and have my prescription refilled at my regular pharmacy if this is the case. Input is much appreciated!

In order to provide you with a generic, the pharmacy can only give you one that is equivalent to that which you were originally prescribed, so they're the same, the new one is just a generic manufactured by a different company.

However, since there can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in generic medications, you could still end up having problems with it. I had that issue when I was on oral contraceptives, I did fine with the name brand, but the generics caused me to constantly spot and have breakthrough bleeding. I finally had to ask my doctor to write my prescription as 'brand medically necessary'.

The only thing you can do is try it and see if it causes you any problems and, if it does, return to your regular pharmacy for the next refill, or ask your doctor to do the same, so they can no longer provide you with the generic.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thanks so much for this question and reply (mostly the reply lol). I, too, had the same issue as the questioner, and it's good to know that the prescription they gave me will be ok (yes, even if the pharmacist assured me it was the same thing and that they just switched to a different manufacturer).
