taking 6 x 30 mg of oxycodone per day does NOT necessarily constitute drug abuse. if that patient is taking the medication exactly as prescribed, and he is obtaining ALL narcotic medication from one doctor - he is not "doctor-shopping" or obtaining drugs from friends, from family or off the street - then he is not an addict even though he is certainly dependent on opiate agonists.
This patient is taking ~216 morphine-equivalent mg of opiates per day. I have been taking ~160 morphine-equivalent mg per day for more than two years, although I don't actually take morphine. My L6/S1 disc is nearly completely gone. The bone-on-bone pain is extremely severe. I cannot live in that much pain. I would have committed suicide years ago had I not gotten adequate pain relief. (I'm still in considerable pain at times and every day, but the pain level has been reduced enough that I still have some quality of life.)
Two former co-workers are prescribed a lot more morphine mg-equivalents per day than the patient in question. One wears two, 100 ug/hr fentanyl patches at all times and takes one 100 mg Oxycontin tablet every 12 hours. Thus, this person is taking ~550 morphine mg-equivalents per day. His left shoulder has been operated on three times, he has had three procedures on his lower back and his knees are shot. He requires the very high level of opiate agonists each day in order to function.
You need to understand that people taking high levels of narcotic pain relievers are not getting high on the meds.

I'M NOT GOING TO SUGAR COAT IT FOR YOU, IT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT EXPERIENCE I HAD EVER GONE THROUGH. I WAS UNDER MY REGULAR MDS CARE, SHE PERSCRIBED PURE OXYCODONE ( PERCOCET) TO ME, TO HELP EASE THE PAIN. I WAS EATING THEM LIKE GUMDROPS. AFTER 9 DAYS WITHOUT METHEDONE, I STILL COULDN'T TAKE IT! MY DRS OFFICE WAS CLOSED AND I HAD RAN OUT OF THE OXYCODONE, I HAD TO GO INTO DETOX....FOR 5 DAYS, THEY PUT ME ON SUBOXIN ( NOT SURE IF SPELT RIGHT, HIGH DOES AT FIRST, THEN BY DAY 5 I WAS ON 1 STRIP UNDER THE TONGUE AND WAS RELEASED. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS OK, THEN DAY 2 OF BEING HOME I BEGAN VOMITTING FOR 36 HRS STRAIGHT, TO THE POINT I MESSED UP MY ESOPHAGUS AND NEEDED TREATMENT FOR MONTHS. I BEGAN TO FEEL AGAIN, BY MONTH 2, ITS VERY DIFFICULT TRUST ME. BUT IF YOU TRUELY WANT YOUR LIFE BACK, YOU CAN STOP. THERE ARE OTHER ALTERNATIVES TO MANAGING YOUR PAIN, EVEN ANOTHER OPIOD WOULD BE FINE AND MUCH EASIER TO COME OFF OF. METHEDONE GETS DEEP IN YOUR BONES OVER TIME, THUS MAKING IT THAT MUCH HARDER TO COME OFF OF, BECAUSE OF THE PAIN YOU WILL ENDURE STOPPING IT. I FOUND THAT THE PAIN OF COMING OFF METHEDONE WAS MUCH GREATER THEN THE ACTUAL PAIN I STARTED TAKING THEM FOR. METHEDONE IS WIDELY USED AND CAN HAVE MANY BENEFITS (LONGER ACTING) ON YOUR LIVER AND KIDNEYS, BUT IF USED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, NOLONGER IS IT AFFECTIVE, HAVING TO INCREASE DOSES DUE TO TOLERANCE. PEOPLE WOULD SAY TO ME....OMG....24 PILLS A DAY? I DIDN'T START OUT WITH THAT DOSE, BUT GRADUALLY OVER TIME I NEEDED MORE. PLEASE BE CAREFUL, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, CUT BACK TO 10 OR 5MGS BEFORE STOPPING COMPLETELY. YOU CAN DO IT AND FREE YOURSELF FROM THE PRISON IT HOLDS YOU IN. GOOD LUCK AND TAKE CARE:) XO

Plus, after suffering a painful CHRONIC disease for 13 years now it's obvious tolerance is A REAL THING. At this point it would be misguided to say that MY body doesn't have some reliance on this medication but does that make me inelligible to try to manage my severe chronic pain? Living on my own since 14 raped multiple times, father and uncle included, with the whole damn family okay with it, beaten and abused and i still get up every f***ing day with a smile on my face ready to conquer this damned world were living in! i hate to say this to ya bro but the thing i found out how to handel the with draws is pills idk if u have ever done them b for but if not or if so go by something small like a v5 or v7.5 or the v10 snort or pop them or get oxy 5s witch r known as babys or oxy 10s 15s 30s if u could get the 15s in do 2 aday u should b fine in if u do that for a lil over a month with out takein the methadon then it will... well u said u were on it for 27 years so i would do the pills for around 3 moths n on my word bro u will not have bad with draws for the meth anymore then if u wana quit the pills if ur doin the oxy witch they can be known as perks or oc just switch to the vs if u cant or ont want to just lower ur dose but if u quit cold turky just take som ibprofin in the with draws from the pills r like 2 to 3 days in then u should be drug free my frind but if ur not redy to take that step to get the hell of that devils methadone then like u can well the say u shouldnt but as long as its not alot of mg then u can do the pills with it thats what i did n i takes the pain away the vs r the safist to take with the meth thats what docs jive ya if ur on it in hot baths in showers help to. in sorry about the spelling im not that good with it lol but i hope i could help ya? good luck to ya.

they are snort-able, shoot-able (IV/IM/peritoneally), shove-able (buttplugging), smoke-able, and swallow-able (the 5 S's).
the only "safe" way is to eat them as prescribed, but you can sniff them for a higher bio-availability (less drug is wasted). They are also bangable (inject), though this is the most intense and addictive method; physically AND mentally.
And as far as instant release being the same, your friend will be among the other 98% of med school graduates who don't know what their talking about. the whole point of recreational drugs (esp. smoke, sniff and shoot) is to get as much drug to the brain in as little time as possible ("rush"). this is why IV injecting, smoking, and snorting are so intense/addictive (in that order, greatest to least).
no matter what method/drug is used, remember its all harmful, and usually addictive, no matter what degree of harm reduction you use!

wow I agree with you i also suffer from server pain and i take 18 methadone pills a day i get 540 a month i was getting 728 but they weened me down wish they didnt but they did and its just the drug users who want the drug to get high that hurt the ones like us who need the medication so desperately and when i go to a pharmacy to get it filled i have actually had a pharmacist tear it up and refuse to fill it because it was to much and they played dr. so i of course finally found a family pharmacy but the stereotypical bulls*** that we have to go through is unfair, i love when i get pee tested because it only streangthens my trust with my dr. hey good luckk my friend god bless you and you are in my prayers remember god is fair and just and karma is equal , i thank him every day for the things i can do and the things i can have 37 operations later and renal disease and liver damage and gout and nerve damage lololololol i just laugh i have to wear a colostomy bag to now to be honest that i hate it breaks on me in public people point and laugh and stare and you can just see them looking at me , i never leave my home , anyway like I said GOD BLESS YOU life really is good ......................

You dont have to have bone cancer I am a cancer survivor and jave had multiple big surgerys iam on 240 mg of oxycodone a day becausr my tolerance is so high its judgemental ppl like you who make it harder for ppl like me in real pain to get my meds so maybe you should say some th ing till you finally get cancer chances are you will I lost my testicle all my lymphatic system an d half of a lung think I in a little bit of pain so do reSearch before yoh make comments like that

This doesn't make sense. If they add fillers that are not intended to be broken down by the human body then they wouldn't even put them in there. Even when you just swallow the pill you are still putting the entire pill's contents (including fillers) into your body, just because you are not injecting it directly into your bloodstream or crushing and snorting doesn't mean that you are not still putting these fillers into your body, fillers that are supposedly not intended to be broken down b y the human body.
