Side Effects Of Suboxone (Page 7)

Updated

I have been on suboxone now for just under a month. I think it is an amazing drug, i have had no cravings or interest in returning to opiates, my drug of choice was oxy. I get up every day feeling happy, and am able to take on what ever the day brings me. I am also on lexapro for depression at this time. There is one problem after i take my dose, which is 8 mg. twice a day, I am extremely tired sometimes to the point where if i sit down I will nod off, so I keep moving and can usually fight through it. I am wondering do other people feel this way or does it get better the longer you are on it? Two other things that are sometimes very bothersome are dizzyness and extreme dry mouth. I just wanted to find out other peoples experiences. Thanx

I had been using suboxone for over a year, started it after a 160-240mg a day habit of oxycontin. Me and my doctor used a tapering schedule and I came out of the suboxone program with no withdrawals and completely clean and sober. As long as you do a taper with suboxone you will really not have any withdrawals.

I was on methadone at 35mg's a day and am now beiing transfered to subs. my Dr. recommended for the first 2 weeks side effects will present themselves (nausea, fatique, lack of appetite and the euphoria feeling of heroin. Once your body adapts the side effects will subside. I was advised that if the side effects or withdrawals continue withing the first 3 days the dose needs to readjusted. If you feel the nod, and or overly high your dose needs to be tapered down a bit.

My story sounds like yours. When I got off the dope got on 2 8mg subs a day for 2 yrs and then I desided I wanted to get off them. I tried just jumping right off and god dont do that!!! The withdrawls were unreal. I could't take it. I could't get back in a sub Dr. too long of a wait list, so I got on 40 mgs of methodon and hated it was nodden off and burning eveything thankgod a sub Dr. got me in. I am back on subs the put me on 2 8mgs a day i cut myself back evey few weeks 2mgs and have no withdrawls. I am now take 2mgs a day and this is the best I have felt. I do feel 2 8 mg subs a day is too much 2mgs is great!!! best thing you can do is cut yourself back little at a tme slowly. Best of luck!!!

just a quick question. how long were you on the subs for? I've been on them for about four years and want to come off of them but I'm worried about the withdrawal from subs.

I have been taking Subs For Six Years Now. I Started At 16Mg Daily And Took Myself Down To 4Mg Daily Because 16 Was Just Too Much. I Have Attempted To Wean Myself Off Twice. The First Time I Tried To Go Cold Turkey And The Withdrawal Was Excruciating, And That Was Only Coming Off Of A 4Mg Daily Dose. The Second Time I Tapered Down To 1mg Daily And I Quit. The WithdraWals Were Still Bad But Not Nearly As Bad As Before And The Worst Of It Was Over In A Week. Unfortunately, I Felt It Necessary To Resume Usage Of The Subs For A Combination Of Factors Including Chronic Back Pain, Depression, And What I Feel To Be AN Imbalance In My Brain Chemistry Which Is What I Believe To Be The Underlying Cause Of The Above Mentioned Conditions. If You Are Truly Serious About Getting Off Of TheM, Then You Should Tapper Yourself Down Slowly Over A Long Period Of Time. Since You have Been On Them For Such A Significant Amount Of Time, Then You Should Also Consider Taking A Proper Amount Of Time Tapering Down From Them. Let Your Body Slowly Adjust To being Chemical Free or You May End Up FeelingDepression, Loneliness, Irritability, etc, And The Worse You Feel, The More Likely It Will Be That You Go Right Back To The Subs. I Personally Have Made A Conscious Decision To Stay On The Subs, As Opposed To Replacing Them With Pain Pills And Antidepressants. Anyways, Enough With My Advice. Whenever You Are Truly Ready, Just Take It Slow, Try To Find Others Who Have Experienced The Same Problems,And Keep aA Positive outlook Cuz If You MakeIt Through The Tough Parts Of The Withdrawal And The Crummy Feelings That Can Come After The Withdrawal, Then You Will Be Extremely Proud Of Yourself For Taking Control Of Your Life And Overcoming aA Very Big Problem That Most People Will Have Never Experienced And The Few That Have Experienced Such An Issue Don't Always Come Through To The Other Side. Good Luck. I Know You Can Do It.

THANKS Heather for being thoughtful and sweet and leaving a reply... I JUST now got an e-mail that someone had made a reply so don't think I was ignoring you.. I live in a SMALL town and there's about 7 Sub clinic's and ALL charge the same price...Some people from even smaller towns with no other option's drive an hour or so to this small town just to get in a clinic..I saw I could no longer afford to go and on my last appt. I got 105 8 mg.'s filled and I am down to 3/4th's of one strip.. I just cannot get below that..I think its all in my head though and I need to be stronger...I started the clinic in October of 2012 and it's now May 2013...I still have 105 that I got filled the last time I went to the clinic and had 87 from the month's before where I kept saving up but the 87 I had left over are down to about 12 strips now..It truly made me feel bad to leave the clinic...The Dr. was great and very understanding, nurses were great, it just had a good atmosphere overall and they treated you humanely...They said I was their best patient and the only one who had never failed a screening, never missed a count (RAD) appt., and should be their "poster" child, LOL... I felt bad because I didn't tell them but I was afraid if I told the Dr. would have lowered my dosage on his own and I wouldn't be able to adjust..Some go too fast while other's keep giving you 24 mg.'s daily so thought I'd try it on my own.. Another Dr. who knew I was on them had a problem himself so he totally understood and gave me clonidine (blood pressure meds) and phenergan for withdrawal's if I needed them.. I DREAD taking myself down more.. I've been on 3/4th's of an 8 mg. strip for almost 2 month's now but cannot bring myself to go lower.. I also wanted to thank Suzi_Q for her response also.. Still with the same b/f and NO support still and yes it's a LOT harder to actually do since I have been with him for over 8 yr.'s..I just tell him to shut up and I can hear him mumbling but I pay him no attention. They do have NA meetings but I'm unable to find anyone to get some more information...This small town I live in is known as a drug area and all of the smaller town's around it too so I'm left without any friends also.. People are on drugs here at age 18, 30, 50 and beyond..SAD but true and really there is no help anywhere..I have been to the Methadone clinic here before and did nothing but sleep, eat, and burn everything including myself..I remember one night I had gotten up to go to the bathroom and I smoke cig's so the next thing I remember (I nodded off of course) was waking up with my underwear and crotch area on fire.. Kinda sounds gross but kinda funny too so thought I'd share that with you all too... ..Any advice on how and when to taper down and for how long??? : ) THANKS again Heather and Suzi-Q !!!!!

I dont know who prescribes you lot!! 32mg is the cieling height! Nobody needs more than 8mg at MOST. you will never get off them. I started on 12mg but within a week had cut down to 4mg a day..Its now 2 years later and after trying to stop i realised this is a lifelong thing.BUT i only need half a mg a day,,its nigh on impossible to stop. its not the physical side its the mental side!! if you think youve ever suffered from depression or anxiety just wait til you run out of subs!! be very warned..

Hi!.. Ive been on suboxin for 6 months, Im on 16 mg a day. If you are feeling the "nod" after taking your dose discuss it with your doctor its usally a sign that your dose is to high. Try 4 mg than waitan hour and take the other 4 mg. As far the dizziness i havent had any problems with that. The dry mouth is a side effect that you will have to get use to. I carry hard candies like werthers or campinos it helps toep saliva flowing. I also know that certain meds can counteract with suboxin causing dizziness or extreme fatigue such as antihystamines,or antinausia medication. Make sure your doc and pharmacist aware of all the meds that you are taking.

Wow! It's inspiring to read such positive stories. I personally feel like I've been living a nightmare. I started taking oxy on a script from my doc because of back pain. My wife has a very serious degenerative spine problem so she was on them also. Our doctor was writing the scripts like they were water. "Three 40's a day not enough? Ok, let's try three 80's". We had bottles of the stuff and just kept stuffing it into our bodies until we were both so messed up. This all happened over an eight month period. When it came time to stop taking them I had no problem not taking the pills but I couldn't bear the physical symptoms. I just couldn't do it so I heard about a sub clinic for professionals and off I went. I told the counsellor repeatedly that my problem was going through WD's not the mental addiction. She said suboxone would be perfect for me because it would allow me to bypass the WD's and feel good immediately. Gosh, it was like an answer from heaven. Two months later when I was fed up with all the rules and visits and restrictions of this so called clinic for professionals (I call foul on that) and wanted to just stop the counsellor said I would have terrible WD!!! What???? But you didn't say anything about that when I signed up and said my only problem was fear of WD!!! Yes, I should have done the research but don't forget, I was properly wasted every day for eight months so I wasn't thinking about much when I first visited the sun clinic. Two years and seven months later I am still on subs and perfectly miserable. It has negatively impacted every area of my life from work to marriage. 4 days out of 7 I contemplate suicide with a scary feeling for making it a reality. I have to take Zoloft, immovane, serequel, and modafinal to beat the side effects of depression and insomnia and I have gone from being a dynamic person who could go for 18 hours a day to having maybe 4 - 6 functional hours per day. I started at 24mgs went down to 6 and back up to 14 which I know is too much. This is horrid and miserable!!

My husband just started using suboxone today. He has had his first dose 1/2 of 8 mg strip. He was prescribed 2 / 8 mg strips per day. He is feeling irritable and very tired. Because of these symptoms he thought he was still feeling the effects of wd's and took the other 1/2, as directed by doctor. Can someone please give me some feedback, i have questions that only suboxone patients can answer.
1) Is irritability is a normal side effect of suboxone or will this subside as he gets use to it?
2) His libido has diminished since he as been addicted to opiates, will this return with use of suboxone?

Thanks for the post, we now realize the tired feeling is a normal side effect at this point. Most especially, thank you for informing us that he should not use suboxone more than a couple of weeks. God Bless You all in your quest for sobriety.

I have been on suboxone for 1 week now after withdrawing from methadone. I was under the impression I would feel better, more alert etc. I am completly the opposite. I am so tired, I am very moody . A huge difference as I was very athletic and enjoyed life. Im very depressed and wish I never switched. Im not uncomfortable or hanging out. Im on 16mg . My skin has broken out and very itchy. I visited this site before I went to detox and im very happy it has all worked out for you guys. Hopefully its just early days and things will settle. Sooner the better....

I have a question has anyone switched from methadone to subox? If so is the transition a difficult one?

I was on methadone before I went on suboxone, and it was the best thing I ever did. I always felt drugged on methadone. I would nod out, esp. when driving. I woke up every morning feeling so achey and lots of body pains until I went to the clinic to get the methadone. I had a lot of problems taking methadone. Then I switched to suboxone and have had no problems w/it. There is no difficulty, at least for me, from switching from the methadone to suboxone. and I don't have any side effects from the suboxone like I did with the methadone.

you are probably taking too much suboxone if you're feeling tired and having those side effects. I've never had any side effects from it. I did feel tired and some things when I first started. I was on 24 mgs. at first, but now I'm done to 8 mg and have no side effects. try a smaller dosage and maybe that will help. good luck

I am 50 yrs old, and have been on suboxone for 8 straight years, about 6mg per day. This drug is worse than crystal or coke because of the PAWS. Today is day 20 of being clean. I made the mistake of quitting cold turkey, instead of tapering down. But money was an issue, so I had no choice. To quit cold, it put me in the hospital for 4 days, and today, day 20, I still have PAWS. Restless leg, and Insomnia. I did return back to work last night for the first time. I fear I might have done some permanent brain damage because of the long usage.
