I need to know of any side effects that may occur while taking this medication.

I hope your husband is doing well. I am able to take sulpha drugs. Sulfur is in many peoples drinking water. I sure don't want it taken off the market because I have a lot of allergies to other drugs. I can't take penicillin or any 'cillins', cyprofloxacin or any 'floxacins', and something else that was given to me in the hospital that made me so sick I don't remember what it was. I can take z-pak and sulpha drugs.

I was prescribed bactrim for an infection that wouldn't heal properly. After taking one pill at 7:30 at night I woke up at 3:30 vomiting, halluecinations, full body shivers with a 104 temp. I lost consciousness and woke up in the back of the Ambulance heading to our local hospital. They said I had a violent reaction to bactrim and I should never take it again. It has been 6 days I feel much better but still have body aches and red blotchy skin that my Dr. says may not entirely go away for another 3-4 weeks.

I was prescribed Keflex for a UTI. I didn't like the side effects like itchy eyes and gi upset but it was tolerable for the 5 days it was prescribed but didn't seem to be helping. I got a call on day 5 saying the strain of bacteria I had was resitent to Keflefx.
It took that long to get the culture back because it was a holiday weekend. So I was prescribed Bactrim. I took one and within 15 minutes my face and chest were bright red, itching and burning. I went immediately to urgent care where they agreed it was from the Bactrim. Gave me prednisone and benedryl. I am on my second day of prednisone with little improvement. They were hopeful that the prednisone and benedryl prevented a worse reaction. I have many allergies and cannot take any of the oral antibiotics for this strain of bacteria so I now have to go to get a shot of ciftriaxone for three days. So far no problem with it. They instructed me to add bactrim and sulfa to my allergy list. I guess it works well for some people but seems to cause allergic reactions in many.

Had the same thing happen but they told me to keep taking it and I did, 3 days later and all my skin peeled off my body and was on life support. I have not been the same since.

I cannot take most drugs, actually, but Bactrim is one I can tolerate and have no bad reactions or side effects. It does the job, and I am not even nauseated.

I took Bactrim for the 1st 5 days of a 10 day cycle. By day 5 I had broken out in hives all over my body. Now on a different medication, AND a medication for the hives.

How long have you had the hives. I stopped taking Biatrim on Friday and I am still suffering from the hives. They come and go. I have been to the ER on IVs and they still come back. I am taking 40 mg of Prednisone daily and four benadryls. This is going to run me crazy.

I started bactrim 8 days ago, 2x a day. I had read online to look out for a reaction even though dr. Told me there were no side effects. I felt really sore and lethargic at first, head aches, moody. Then last night on 7th day my lips swelled up. Now I woke up to my eyes completely swollen. I took an antihistamine and will probably run to urgent care when it open to avoid an er bill. I was.put on this for acne treatment. Hope it goes away quickly as I look like someone who just got punched!

It almost killed me! NO JOKE! Its been 5 years since my bad reaction and I am still not better! I would never let my kids or anyone else I care about take the medicine!!!

Really? I sure hope I don't have long term effects. I took a Claritin and 10 MG of prednisone this am and it's calming down. Still got to gym and praying it will go away. What Andre your long term effects?

I've been on Bactrim 2x a day for a breast abscess, my feet are aching a day are it hy,and I sleep alot. Is this normal

glad i came across your post. i was on bactrim for a second go around. first time i got itchy (not badly) and chalked it up to laundry detergent. second go around, i made it to day 4 (for UTI) and broke out everywhere; firs the arms and wrists, then the abdomen, then that faded, then the legs and feet. a misery. i went to urgent care but the doc asked if i could tough it out since i am an insulin diabetic. i tried for the day but ended up going back before they closed, only face and arms on fire now. he gave me decadron(?) injection and sent me home with 6 pills, 2 a day, 20mg each. i've been living on 25mg of bendryl every 4 hrs for two days now and the itchiness leaves but eventually comes back, worse at nighttime.
though i hated hearing it could last for a bit longer, your post helped me out. no respiratory troubles but at least i know how long the reaction can last!

I was put on Bactrium for a MRSA infection on my finger. I work as a nurse and think I got while at work. The second day I woke up at 2 am with the worst headache of my life. i was vomiting and I was so anxious I thought I was going crazy. I didn't want to go to the ER because that's where I worked but I knew this was serious. My friend came and got me and I ended up getting a CT of the head and a Lumbar Puncture. This was awful. My blood pressure was through the roof. The only thing that helped was Benadryl and Reglan. I saw my Dr after all this and she was told me I was the second patient of hers that had the same response. For years I have given this drug to my patients. I have never seen anything like it. I have learned what it's like to be on the other side. It's very scary to be in so much pain and not know what is happening. I hope I never have to go on this drug again. I still don't feel normal. Hope this helps someone out there.

I took my last Bactrim this morning I feel a little better but now I'm peeing alot more then i normally would and the inside of my lips feel raw, im tired, and am still feeling pressure in my lower stomach.

The first and only time I took Bactrim I had a psychological reaction to the drug. I am not diabitic and I have no autoimune diseases. After my third does I started feeling really depressed to the point I was in tears. Then it felt like pin and needels all over my body. This all lead into my first panic attack.My anxiety decreased after a couple hours and I was able to sleep. I woke up the next morning in a ball from night sweats and so depressed. I was taken back to the doctor who took me off the drug. The side effects have been lingering for the past four days but each day it gets better. Come to find out my brother had convulsions and hallucinations on this drug in the hospital after his first does!

I started getting a small rash on my chin a couple months ago and it wouldn't go away. It was getting worse so I went to a walk in clinic and they said it was Periorificial dermatitis. They put me on a z PAC and Bactrim. Immediately the rash cleared up and was gone after day 3. Now I'm done with the z PAC (as of two days ago) and last night I woke up with a fever and my rash is worse. It's on my whole face and the forehead is the worse. The rash started when the fever started and it doesn't itch, I've been on Bactrim for 8 days now.

Sounds like you have a Bactrim allergy. Stop taking the Bactrim and call your Physician. I would take Benadryl for the itching.

So I went to the doc this morning and they said i did have an allergic reaction to bactrim. They gave me a Cortizone shot and steroids. They said if it's not better by tomorrow to go to the ER. I have noticed my face seems to be getting better but my rash is starting to itch where as before it was just on fire. Feels like a bad sunburn

You can get side effects from every prescribed medication there is. Oddly enough you can be a little fella like one of my friends and gets way messed up before me. But I had to stop that Lifestyle cause every day I was packing up
