Seroquel Effects On Muscles And Skin

I would like to know if anyone has experienced skin and muscle mass changes while on Seroquel? I was put on this medication by my psychiatrist almost a year ago to help with manic depressive disorder and sleep problems. At first it seemed to do a wonderful job with minimal side effects (increased appetite and a bit of a dry mouth). I then was given a gradual increase in dosage when sleep problems started to become a problem again. At the increased dosage of 400 mg daily, I noticed that my skin was suddenly taking on a crinkly, crepe paper like appearance and there was a dramatic change in my leg and arm muscle mass with dramatic weakness and leg muscle pain so severe at night that it awakens me from sleep. My skin has become so paper thin that when I shave my legs, they bleed. At the age of 56, I now look like I've aged 10 -15 years in just a few months. Has anyone else experienced any symptoms similar to this on this medication?

Hello, Vicki! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having and as a fellow lady, I understand how awful they are.

Have they checked your thyroid hormones, while you've been on this medication? It can cause changes in them and thyroid disorders have been known to cause skin changes like what you've described.

The weakness and muscle pain are all listed as possible side effects by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain and fever.

Have you informed your doctor? It might be time for you to try a different medication to see if these symptoms go away.
