I've been taking Seroquel for almost a year, and it has changed my life for the better!! Stick with it, it will make you very sleepy at first, but you will get used to it and it is a life saver!!

My doc tried me on 200 mg 3 times a day and they kick my ass. I took a bong outside at 6 in the morning, in my underwear. My son woke up and ask me what was wrong. I ran in the wall 4 times in a row. he sent me to bed and that the the last time I ever took them damn things.

i started taking seroquil a few yrs ago for a sleep disorder-i couldnt shut my brain off at night. the dr started me on 100 mg and they did kick me, so i cut them in half, take 1 every night and sleep like a baby with no hangover. i have had no adverse side effects and find this pill to be my saving grace. it usually takes about an hour to kick in, and i get a sudden hunger, but that is easily fixed by a small snack. just wish there was a generic, as it is expensive - but worth it !

I was taking Seroquel for a while and they did great for me, but the only bad things were that they made me so tired and made me gain weight, so my Doc took me off of them.

I get really blue at the daylight savings time change. The end of the year and lack of sunlight are a bad combo. I've become irritable, no levelof tolerance, no patience, frustrated and sleepy. I've had difficulty staying with one project to completion and focusing is difficult. I feel like I have had TOO MUCH sleep and have feelings of grogginess. I can not stop eating. It is like I can not get full. I've gained 20# of the 80#s I recently lost. Now my Dr. prescribed SEROQUEL. I am so sleepy that I can't function. I am even more intolerable. Today is my first dayon the drug but I'm unsure this was the appropriate drug. Can anyone give me advice and support? Please! I just want my energy level back up to super charge. I function happier and feel better. Why does he want me to be lethargic and fat?

I've been reading how it was given for anxiety to psychotic states. I just asked for something to get me through the seasonal blues! I think I am starting to become anxious by starting it! Let me know if you feel better soon. To: IS THIS FOR ANXIETY.

DEAR KEVIN,
If sleeping relieves anxiety than this is the drug. I needed something to help with my energy level. I started this drug on Friday and I am feeling a little psychotic on Sunday. I slept thru Saturday. I'm serious. And I have a 6 year old who is sick. I haven't been able to function. I am taking 25mg twice a day for 10 days then he wants me to take 100mg twice a day. How long have you been on this med and what are you experiencing today? I think we could use some positive remarks from out there.

I am trepidatious about taking a drug that is being prescribed for anxiety/sleep issues at night but really is used for bi-polar folks.

My doctors tells me Im not bi-polar but am currently taking elavil and halcion or ambien at night and not sleeping well

Prescribing one of these drugs for sleep disorders is actually very common. They tend to have a very calming effect and one of their side-effects is usually drowsiness.

Yea i started off hardcore 25mg double next day and so on until i got to 400 mg before work i work a late shift i think he was confused. However i have masterd how to use and how much. And Belive me its a life saver. I take it for Anxiety and pannick attacks. but you know what it does't work for pannic attacks. works excellent for anxiety. And your mind racing with thoughts. Its stops racing thoughts. i combine it with Kolopin. I take 200mg before bed. and 2 25mg's before work . It's Great Medicine i wish i could find something for Pannic Attacks.. PS it dosnt work if you bite a pice off unless its before bed. never in the day before work . you must take the little 25's Belive me.

I was put on it (300 mg. bedtime) for chronic insomnia. It was a disaster. I would go to sleep for about one half hour, 20 minutes after taking the medication. I would wake up in the Twilight Zone and stay there for 4-6 hours. Best wishes.

Dear Sarah, Joe, and sjfbrownsville, I stopped taking the medication after the first 3 days. It caused more negative side effects and made my symptoms worse. I am not bi-polar nor schizaphrenic, however I see the same Dr. that my sister sees and she has these illnesses. I guess my DR. thought we would be the same in chemistry make-up. I recommend trying other meds if the first week doesn't seem to help. Meaning tell your Dr. I recently saw that this drug is under investigation and believe it 's being taken off the market. However my sister who takes it at large doses and needs remarkably high sedatives and tranquilizers, functions ok on it. My Dr. switched me to Lexapro 40mg daily after trying wellbutrin/klonapin,and lexapro combo. I stopped everything about a month ago and he still really thinks I need at least lexapro for depression. I am no expert on this med but I know enough that in appropriate functioning and behavior isn't a good side effect and am glad I stopped. Keep me informed! Thanks

To Joe, That is great that you found seraquil to help anxiety! As you've read I stopped due to the negative side effects outweighed the good. However my sister claims by it. Have you used Xanax? It has helped me the most with panic attacks. That and recognizing situations where I may get a panic attack and attempt to avoid because taking the xanax can make me sleepy. Thanks for the chat!

One of my close friends took Seroquel, and as far as the product's effectiveness goes it works for what it's perscribed for. But the risk of diabetes, as I'm sure you've heard, is a very extreme and permanant side-effect to deal with. I know that my buddy doesn't enjoy checking his blood sugar a couple of times a day due to a medicine he was perscribed to. If it works for you very well and has changed your life, stick with it. But please be aware that this side effect is more common than people think, a very drastic one at that.

I have been on Seroquel for about a year and at first it was difficult to function, but it has been a life saver for me. The only problem I have is when I take it at night it is difficule to wake up in the am, but other than that I am doing okay with it. I does freak you out at first but it gets better over time.

Kevin, I reccomend Seroquel, but you have to know that you get sugar cravings, may be hungrey all the time, and sleep a lot for the first five weeks or so. You have to try and be active while taking Seroquel eat small amounts when you get the hunger pains, dont eat to feel full. Dont eat a lot of candy you have to keep those things away from the house because you will eat them all. I know because I gained 70lbs the first 6mths I was on the drug, so now I am feeling better and doing well, I am back to work and living well again, I could now go to the mall etc, Still limit yourself to the time spent at the mall because to long and you may spaz out. You will do well if you follow some sort of plan by keeing aware of what happening to you.

I agree i was prescribed this years ago and i have only taken it a handful of times usually for sleep and then you wake up feeling like you drank a bottle of whiskey the night before. It's a vile drug it is so widely prescribed and it has awful side effects including weight gain. I think doctors get backhanders for prescribing it now

Re: Pregoans (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

I thought that doctors where not supposed to prescribe seroquel to people that are pre-diabetic and diabetic. Did the prescriber do a base line blood check before prescribing the drug? Most people forget to do this.

I hope that your crusade fails. Making a decision for the majority usually is not popular. Try a different drug - please do not bother me with your petty complaints. Who took the medication? Did they put a gun to your head? Please leave us "abnormal" people alone.

Re: ricky (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

Yeah the span of time is long. Ideally you can eventually start to take the whole does at night. Also, the night does and the morning dose can be different. Small doses do seem to be more sedating. I've been taking this drug for years; it is a life saver if it works for you.

When I first started to taking it I was in a psychiatric hospital; the dose was 600 and 600. These days they think I am a drug seeker because I can tolerate the drug at high doses. The highest dose I know of is 1800mg for stabilization. Getting the dose right is half the battle.

I have been taking it for ~20 years and it works well as an antipsychotic. The bipolar use is actually a new thing for me. It does cause sleepiness - but this side effect seems to wear off over the years; just like the weight gain.

This is probably the best antipsychotic of the "older new drugs". For anxiety I would do a risk assessment on benefit to side effects. Seroquel is a powerful drug.

I would talk to your doc about something a bit newer; have no suggestion on that may bee except that weight gain is a big factor in the newer drugs compared to the "older new" drugs...

hope this helps

OMG Don’t take antipsychotics to treat anxiety!!! You’ll end up with more problems than you started with.
They make medication for anxiety why is your doctor giving you a hardcore anti psychotic??

Re: ricky (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

no kidding a high dose; half that amount may be better. It's funny when I ask for 1200mg it's too high, but for a child 600mg is ok.

I would not recommend using seroquel for sesonal affective disorder. Have you tried taking an antidepressant?

I have been taking Seroquel for about 20 years. They started me at 1200 mg. Yeah, getting used to Seroquel can be quite the task. I no longer experience the sleepiness and sluggishness that is usually associated with Seroquel. I actually feel clear headed on the drug (if you can believe that).

I now take only 600mg at night. I actually got down to 300mg at one point, but the fear of psychosis led me back to 600mg. Better safe than sorry IMHO!

I was worried about the weight gain. My weight has been stable for many years. Now I only worry about those triglycerides and the thought that they are going to pull it off the market because people are prescribing an atypical for depression. Horrifying! It makes me want to take more seroquel!

I am so happy I stuck with the seroquel I feel so much better now. I would urge you to give it some.
