Medazepam:

'A benzodiazepine derivative used in the treatment of anxiety. It has sedative, muscle relaxant, and anticonvulsant properties. One of its metabolites is DIAZEPAM and one of its excretion products is OXAZEPAM.'

Medazepam, a new benzodiazepine, was studied as an oral preanaesthetic medication in adult women in a dose of 10 mg, and the findings compared with those obtained with diazepam 10 mg or a dummy capsule using a double-blind technique. In the doses used medazepam produced less drowsiness than diazepam and was no more anxiolytic than the placebo.

You will excuse me as I have taken 5mg lorazepam, 4mg clonazepam, 5mg alprazolam, 20mgh diazepam, 400mg meprobamaye, 700mg carisoprodol, and the killers - 120mg Oxycontin, 60mg oxynorm, and 12 (or is it 24) mg hydromorphone since around 09:00 today.

In a lot of pain and up to the eyes in anxiety, had panic episode at 08:50-odd. Where was I? Not as desirable to hooded meds as Xanax or Valium or Ativan or Rohypnol. All of which I take in normal dodes with no alcohol but still fell off chair and stuff. My final opinion of medazepam; great benzo, esp Rudotel and LaborMed Pharma MZ10 generic, peach colour. Excellent at its job and much less sedating or other umwanted side effects.

It may be obtained in the form of LaborMed generic, a softish tablet good for sublingual use, ideal dose 20mg. Ever since ABRAX pharmacy closed, I have been unable to get Rudotel or Nobrium. It is more expensive than diazepam but half the Xanax price. Good luck if you have not found it yet.

Since I wrote that reply, I have both got myself a device that doesn't throw as many typos on the touchscreen (!) & have learned a lot more about the pharmacology of benzodiazepines and opioids, the two main types of drug which I am prescribed...

However medazepam of any brand remains very difficult to obtain outwith the main countries in which it is commonly prescribed - Hungary, Romania, Russia being currently the largest markets for this drug, which is so similar to diazepam but so much superior in so many ways; not least its far lighter sedation profile, permitting the user to continue living a relatively normal life without the motor and cognitive functions being impaired so badly.

I had found a source but they charge ridiculous amounts for such a cheap drug, so now I ensure that I pick up two 90-day prescriptions of the Rudotel brand every time I travel to one of those countries, so that I always have stock. I still do not understand why diazepam is still preferred when medazepam gives practically the same anxiolysis and other classical benzo effects but without the problems with oversedation mentioned - it is also less attractive to people whose attraction to diazepam is not clinical but with a view to abuse; here where I live, it has long been common for the wastrel youth to consume large (> 150mg) quantities of diazepam washed down with a well known brand of Tonic Wine made by Benedictine Monks, a combination which, due to the high alcohol and caffeine content of that drink, (damn touchscreens all together!) has led to much antisocial behaviour, violence and disorder. In my opinion, since there is so little difference between the two, medazepam should be used as a direct replacement for diazepam whenever possible. (I am still having great trouble with my chronic pain issues; doctors seem to think they know better than patients how their pain affects them and what dosages of which drugs actually relieve that pain. I am literally forced to go outside legal prescription in order to be able to live in anything resembling comfort. I wish that Palfium were reintroduced to the NHS and that oxymorphone were available elsewhere than Bangladesh and USA, two countries from which it is impossible to acquire any medicines at all.)

My major take on this thread, though, is that wherever possible, MEDAZEPAM SHOULD BE PRESCRIBED ROUTINELY AS A DIRECT ALTERNATIVE TO DIAZEPAM IN ALL SITUATIONS WHERE HEAVY SEDATION IS NOT A NECESSITY!
