My 26 year old son just died from taking Klonopin mixed with Hydrocodone. He only took 1 Hydrocodone according to the Coroner report but the combination of these two drugs killed him. We had NO idea these two drugs were lethal. Taking Klonopin for anxiety alone is okay and taking pain meds AS PRESCRIBED is okay but you can never take them together. I don't think people out there really realize this or think "this will never happen to them". It does. After doing much research we have discovered that prescription drugs when taken incorrectly kills someone every 19 minutes in the US. If you do not believe me, check out the article on CNN by Dr. Sanjay Gupta. "Gupta: Let's End the Prescription Drug Death Epidemic". Since our son's death a little over a year ago we have started a foundation in his name to help make others aware of this. Had we known this could happen we would have shared that with him. We knew he was taking Klonopin and we knew he liked to take Hydrocodone when he could find it. What we did NOT know was these two medications taken together could kill him. We can't bring our son back but maybe you might think twice about taking these together after reading this. It can happen and it does....every 19 minutes.

I am a 27 year old cancer survivor and became addicted to opiates and benzos after Kaiser was giving me 400 norcos and 200, 2mg xanax a month when i was on chemo.. We all have angels and demons inside of us and all we can do is wake up everyday and have faith in ourselves that we will be ok regardless of the choices WE choose to make. I know you mean well, but using Godhead to replace her Ge High lifesyyle is just not the way. Meeting with others in an NA or AA environment is the only proven way to help people modify their behavior. This is a two year old thread, but I hope dad gets this...Luck to you,

The first year of recovery for a full blown addiction takes a miracle, not will power, and whether it's Jesys, a door knob, or anything identified as a higher power that's what it takes. After the first year the Resposibility Model can be kicked in, but initially, while the mind is still healing, the spiritual model is the best. May not have worked for you, but for the vast majority if people that DO 4ecover, which is a small percentage to begin with, spiritual model followed by responsibility model works. But at the end of the day, it comes down to a willingness to change and a fearless approach to whatever it is the addict is hiding from/masking. For something as l if and death as this, PLEASE don't mistake your opinions as facts because you could lead people with very little time left astray and ultimately to thier grave. I say this in the kitchen dest, gentlest way possible. And for what it's worth, I'm like you in the sense that AA etc never worked for long. It wasn't until I started working the Franklin Reality Model and learning about and undwe standing that the decision to use is a choice and not something glides was helpless against that I was able to reclaim my life (after 20 years of hard core addiction). Been off my drugs of choice for 10+ years now, so yeah... I think I know what I'm talking about at least a little bit. Probably not much more than a kittle, though. ;)

Wrong , I've been on methadone for about 7 years, on 100 mgs daily, I've detoxed twice, the first time I went down to fast ,,, but the second time I did it properly and by the books, and it was far from pleasant, my back, hips, legs and feet hurt so bad I could Barley stand on my feet for 30-40 mins at a time without sitting and resting, I had absolutely no energy EVER!!! I was clean for around 5 months but I ran out of money to live on wile my body was recuperating and I needed to make money to live on and I couldn't do it in the shape I was in ,, and if I could have saved more money to live off of wile I was recuperating I wudnt be on methadone now! So to the above guy ,,, dnt make it sound like a walk in the park

Is praising Jesus what has helped you to become an addict of a cocktail of methadone and benzos? (Which even you admit is something to avoid doing) you sound like the Rasta people that decide working for a living is pointless while living in squalor because of the misguided belief that "Jah will provide." Real problems require real solutions and that's the meat and potatoes of the matter. If you feel comforted in relying on Jesus to give you the spiritual strength to take the necessary steps required to have a chance at over coming your addiction and ultimately downward spiral, then definitely do that. As it is a less diluted reason and necessity to count on Jesus. Selena's parents decided against a blood a potentially life-Saving blood transfusion during her critical time due to religious reasons..and she's dead. God basically only gave us the ability to use our intelligence to propel ourselves forward. Sitting and waiting for Jesus to handle your business could be a deadly mistake.
