Resolor (Thread 214638)

Updated

Is Resolor available in the United States and if not, does anyone know if it can be purchased from another country. I would like to hear from anyone who has taken this drug and what the results were.

No, it appears that Resolor, which contains the active ingredient Prucalopride has not been approved, yet, by the U.S. FDA.

As to purchasing from another country, it would only be legal to import into the U.S. if there is no equivalent medication available or if a patient has not responded to those available medications. Then the FDA and U.S. Customs would give permission to get it.

Otherwise, you would have to be in a country that has it available and have a doctor there prescribe it for you, then you would be allowed to bring in 3 months worth.

I haven't taken it, but from the available information and studies, it has proven effective at helping many people with chronic constipation.

How would we go about getting information on how to acquire resolor. There is nothing like it in the US so do you think it could be given for compassionate use when Amitza is not working?

My GI gave me an RX for Resolor 2mg after he researched it online and agreed that it sounded like something that would help me. I filled the RX at Canadadrugs and received it in about 10 days. It shipped from England.
It works very well and I feel like a normal person again.

Do you happen to have any symptoms since taking it?

wow, your GI guy gave you a prescription for resolor? What city are you in? I've suffered agony for 8 years with only a brief relief, before they took Zelnorm off the market

Do you mean side effects?

Yes, my GI guy is very open-minded and an expert in his field. As you might know, Resolor is approved in all the EU 27 (the 27 European Union countries) but not marketed everywhere yet. Long live money and marketing :-) I was going to see a doctor in Germany (I am going to Europe in April anyway) but it saved me the visit. It works better than Zelnorm because it does not give you the upset stomach that Zelnorm sometimes caused. Zelnorm can be purchased online in a generic form. I know that all American drug companies warn against going outside the US but it is money out of their pockets. Just a thought. I know constipation affects my quality of life and I am willing to do almost anything to feel better. Right now I am happy to report that Resolor is working well.

No, I have had no bad side effect. A bit of a head ache the first few days but well worth it. It does not work if you are already totally constipated. Get "cleaned out" first and then start taking it. I take it in the AM as soon as I wake up. It took me about 10 days to get the RX from the time I ordered it from canadadrugs.com. They are legit and professionals. You need the RX. I faxed it to them. Hope this answers your questions. Otherwise - just ask again. Good luck.

I'm glad you're GI guy is open-minded, mine is not.
I had a great General Practictioner who would have signed anything I needed to get whatever I needed but he passed away, I'm desperate. Is your GI guy taking any new patients and would you be willing to share his name. I dont have much money or otherwise I'd go to Europe

I don't feel comfortable sharing names on this forum - I hope you understand. I would find a new GI in your area - what state are you in? Maybe at one of the big research hospitals? I had a GI guys at first who was completely useless. I told him that Miralax did not work and he perscribed MIRALAX! That is when I knew it was time to go somewhere else.

Yes, I understand completely. I have tried in several of the NYC research hospitals to no avail. I have no money to go to Europe for treatment. I was hospitalized for a severe impaction two weeks ago and I am my wits end. I have to go for a colonic every week because there is no other way to remove waste from my body and that takes almost all my money. I guess the only thing left is to kill myself because I simply cannot go on with this suffering. I have no dignity, the pressure from the colon causes me to wet myself. It is no life

Did Zelnorm work for you when it was on the market? You can get it from inhousepharmacy.biz in a generic form - check it out. I know it was pulled from the US market because of some safety concerns as you might know. You have to decide if it is worth it. I took it and it helped me before it was pulled.

Been there, done that. The generic did not work for me.
The struggle is just not worth it anymore. The loss of dignity that comes with not having control over my body, the denigrating trips to the ER for manual disimpaction. Enough is enough. I have fought a good fight, but it is time to accept that death is preferable to the way I have to live. I am putting my affairs in order to make things easier for my husband. My health has been a big problem for him. It is time to myself out of his and my misery.

I know they also offer zelmac (the non generic) from a branch of novartis in mexico at a mexican online pharmacy. I know it's hard not to lose hope but there are other drugs in the pipeline for this so I hope you do your best to change your outlook. I understand how debilitating this can be but I wish you all the best.

My GI suggested a low dose of Zoloft (25mg) because that has been known to "adjust" your gut and make it start moving again. Just a thought. It has to be a lower dose that what is typically used to treat depression. Apparently most of the serotonin in the body is found in your intestines and not in your brain. Certainly worth a try. He referred to some studies with very positive results. Sometimes constipation is created by a pelvic floor disfunction and bio-feed back might be helpful. I would try Zoloft and that is readily available.

Oh my gosh, I understand the devastation of this horrific condition and I have suffered with severe IBS-C for over 40 years. I have seen doctors abd GI docs, tried every type of herbal remedy, been on every drug, still nothing works. It is not considered life threatening, but it surely ruins one's life. I am a retired nurse, and for most of my life I have blamed myself for being laxative dependent and having to take enemas often. Having said all that I want to express that no matter how bad it is, it is not worth taking your life. I do believe we are all here for a reason and I am hopeful that the US will approve resolor soon. It is very expensive in canada. 400.00 for 84 pills and will it work? I will be praying for you to have faith and not give up. There should be a support group somewhere, yet I have not seen any on line as yet. There are thousands of women young and old suffering with this. I am available to any who want to talk. Remember God can to anything!

Nooooo. Rachael. You can give yourself an enema at home in privacy and it will work. Your life is so precious. Please pray about this. I have been exactly where you are for 40 years!!!

Thank you, but I've done that and it does not work. I can here the water gurgle inside me for several days afterwards. While I appreciate people's attempts to encourage me to "hang on", everyone's experience is different.

I think it is awful for a poster to come on this site and brag that her US doctor prescribed Resolor for her and that it is working great, and then not be willing to share the name of the physician. Better to have kept one's mouth shut.
I've done it all. I pushed myself to graduate law school with honors. I did that two days ago. I've kept a promise now it's time to end my misery

Resolor is available to me in Canada. I am hoping to get it next week as the debilitating nausea and vomiting are horrible. I am trying to stay happy and upbeat but it is getting difficult.

I have tried Miralax and another drug whose name I cannot remember and they made me very sick. I am ready to try the botox actually if that does not work, and contemplating crossing to the US for medical care as doctors with this specialty do not seem to care here.

Good luck to all.

What Canadian pharmacy can you get it? I looked for it at Canadadrugs.com and couldn't find it.

Hi,
I have a incomplete spinal cord injury and ever since have had bowel problems. I've tried everything! Been hospitalised lots of times due to impaction.
Have any of you tried a peristeen? It's a bowel irrigation system. I've been using it for last couple of years alongside lots of laxatives. It does give results, but still not ideal for me. Thankfully after ages of waiting, I've been given Prucalopride to start this week.

To Megan: I realized too late that I addressed my post to the wrong person. I am sorry. Hopefully she will see it, and hopefully it will help others.

Thank you Ann for the information. I was not the one contemplating taking my life though. But like you, I hope the person on here who was considering it has changed her mind!!

Dear Megan,
I recently spoke to my doctor and while he still does not have an exact time-frame, he seems to believe Resolor is going to be available in the US market this year. Obviously it is only his opinion. He also mentioned another product, Linaclotide, that is pending approval and should be available soon.

To Megan, I know from too many years of experience what this does to the life you once had. I would hope you will give my suggestion a try before you do something that does not have the option to be undone. I am sure that you have tried pretty much EVERY "NATURAL" SOLUTION known to man kind and probably a few that weren't. So did I with no help until I found KLERITEA. It is a simple tea bag that you brew with hot water like any other tea. It doesn't taste like sewage. It actually tastes ok. Has a hint of cinnamon to it. I brew one tea bag with about 6 ounces of water for about 15 minutes, add a tsp of sweetener and enjoy once a day. If you are severely constipated, it will take 4 or 5 days to get your system started. (Whatever you do, DO NOT USE 2 TEA BAGS AT ONE TIME. You will start something that you CAN'T STOP! Which may sound great right now, but don't. It may take a couple days to kick in, but wow, you don't want that. Trust me!) Anyhow, once your system gets started, you will have 1 to 3 days with just a little movement and a couple days with significant movement. Within a week, you will have movement 2 or 3 times a day until your system regulates itself. I have had only a couple occasions with super loose stools, as well as 2 or 3 occasions with minimal cramping. I have a variety of GI diagnosis. All with no Solutions and/or doctors that care. I have had 7 orthopedic surgeries in the past 18 months. Anestesia and pain killers are not kind to a healthy persons system. It is down right mean to someone like us. But it has kept my systems from throwing temper tantrums during the past 18 months. Ok, now that I have made this sound too good to be true, I don't sell this tea, I am not a representative of the company and have no ownership in the company in any way. The only reason I know about it is a girlfriend came across it on the internet a couple years ago and tried it. She told me and I have told several people. The only place we have found to get it is "drnatura.com." it is somewhere around $28.00 to $30.00 for 30 tea bags. That may or may not include shipping. The last time I ordered it was about a month and a half ago and I have a lousy memory. I should also tell you that since I got my system regulated (that is not a word I was able to use for about 30 years.) If I am not taking pain killers or being shot full of Anestesia, I only have to use it 3 times a week. Now I know that as you have tried every remedy on the planet, you think I am full of crap and have no clue what I am talking about. So you can either spend approx 30 bucks and give it a try or not. As I can't bear the thought of anyone taking thier own life, I pray that you are still with us, that you read this post, and that you try one more time.
God Bless.

It looks like you can get Resolor from a Canadian pharmacy if you have a script. Wish there was a way to find more up to date information about the fda's progress.
