Requip And Heart Blockage

Updated

my husband was on requip for 2 years, for RLS, started developing adverse events but thought his body had to get used to the medication....as time went by the side effects starting taking a toll, he started having shortness breath to the point that getting up from kitchen table to take a plate on the sink was a chore, fatigue, dizzy, doctor said that he could of had asthma, he was sent for a pulmanary breathing test, when he started the test he was unable to do it....the nurse told him that it had nothing to do with his lungs, it was his heart...was sent to the to the ER right away his heart rate had gone down to 34 beats per min..normal is 60-80,,,, to make this looooonnnnng story short they asked for his meds. when they saw that he was on REQUIP it was taken away and stopped on the spot. Cardiologist told us that 1% of patients on this drug will experience HEART BLOCKAGE, that's what my husband had.....needed a PACE MAKER..........anyone that has had adverse events of this sort please let me know...i'm investigeting it further.. name of Pharmaceutical Company is GLAXO SMITH KLINE INC.. two offices one in Mississauga Ontario, Canada and one in Quebec, Canada.

I am very sorry about what your husband has gone through, this is so very tragic.

Just a note of warning for anyone else that may read this post, anytime you experience unusual side effects that seem severe, you should contact your doctor, or seek immediate medical attention.

Normal side effects are usually mild and transitory, they are more annoying than dangerous and they don't last for a long period of time, they usually hit their peak at about 4 to 6 weeks of use and then taper off, which is about the same time frame it takes for your body to adjust to the medication. Anything that lasts longer than that, or is so severe you can't hardly function, should be reported to a doctor immediately.

And yes, cardiac related events are possible in a very small percentage of people that take this medication.

How is your husband doing, now?
