Replacing Dr. Derakhshan

Updated

Now that Dr. Derakhshan cant help my chronic pain by filling/refilling meds, where can I go? My primary care doctor is afraid to help me. I failed a test (a nerve pill unprescribed) and I get weird looks now. Meanwhile, I really hurt and have much medical background showing documenting my pain.

I doubt you can find a Dr to manage your pain. Any new Dr will get copies of your medical records and they will see that you take medications that aren't prescribed to you. If you signed a pain contract you also broke that. Drs won't prescribe pain meds to patients they can't trust.

That's a shame. That test was almost five years ago now and it was just a nerve pill.

Billy, if you legitimately made a mistake then try not to get discouraged. Having medical records of your chronic pain condition will go a long way. Just be forthcoming and take responsibility and there should be a provider out there who can work with you. May I ask what state you are in?

BL, a little compassion would go a long way. We're all only human and everyone makes mistakes. While the facts you have stated may be technically accurate I don't see how it helped to respond to Billy's inquiry in such a discouraging and pessimistic way.

Roy, I don't believe that misrepresenting the truth serves anyone. Nothing was said about it being 5 years ago. But that may or may not have a bearing now. If he took the nerve pill 5 years ago and hasn't failed another drug panel, it may be a little easier. But on the other hand, maybe not. If his Dr is under investigation and that is why he can't write pain meds any longer that may also make it extremely difficult and he may have to accept a much lower dose of pain meds.

Dr. Derakhshan is not my primary care doctor. He was a neurologist who wrote my pain meds once my primary wasn't allowed to anymore because of the nerve pill in my urine. I'm a CDL driver and have been tested clean every time. Should I just wait for pot to be leagalized? Yeah. That's sarcasm. I hurt more and more and can't seem to find help.

Billy - I wanted to ask you if you happen to have access to your medical records from the former Dr? Also, may I ask what you were originally being prescribed?

BL - I see what you are saying and agree that misrepresenting the truth serves no one. I guess I personally feel that there are a lot of patients with chronic pain in this country, and because of all this recent DEA and other crackdowns there are many legitimate patients being denied proper care to gain some quality back in their lives. Almost like those who are physiologically dependent are being lumped into the same pile as those who use and seek drugs illegally. I was wondering what you think about that too since you seem knowledgeable in that area?

Dr. Derakhshan is not currently allowed to write pain meds because the DEA won't give him a number. His ran out. Also, he has yet to go before board to answer 14 charges against him from ten different patients. Any one of the charges could have his licenses ended. He's quite the center of attention in our neck of the woods.

The nerve pill in my old u/a is important because that good doctor simply isn't helping me although I've asked to refer me, to a different neurologist. Oh and she's not allowed to write me any pain relief because of the failed test, some time ago. I've decided to start calling neurologist around the area and see if I can get in the door. I didn't want it to come down to that, but it is what it is.

Geez that's no fun. I wish I could give you more concrete information but I think you are taking the best course of action at this point. I wish you the best and please keep everyone posted!
