Reducing Losartan 100 Mg Dosage

Updated

Hi, I am a male 64 years old and have been on Losartan 100mg for around three years. I have put on weight, have horrible backache, tiredness, itchy skin, and other symptoms. I bike 15 kms a day and have been on a diet eating one main meal a day with cereal at lunch time.

I've recently started taking 50 mg at 9am then the other 50 mgs at 9 pm. I check my blood pressure three times a day, and it is usually between 130/72 with a pulse of 99. Not usually above or below this range. My question is, can i reduce to 50 mgs a day as my bp is stable to reduce the side effects? Or is there another tablet that doesn't make me put on weight? Ive read Benicar is similar drug with no weight increase, or Dirovan? Thank you.

I have been on Benicar for 5 years with no side effect at all and no weight gain you need to talk to your Doctor about it.

Hi. One needs to accept that the older we get the more our testosterone levels drop. Eating one main meal a day will also slow down the metabolism. I don't think the problem is with the tablet but best will be to discuss it with a doctor. I would suggest have a healthy breakfast in the morning as early as possible and then move the main meal to the afternoon and something more light In evening. In between snack on a fruit to keep the metabolism kick-started. Be a bit more active by just taking short walks now and then which will help with the testosterone production .

The itchy skin and backache could be the cycling. Try back stretching techniques, you'll find some that suit you on the net , I have it down to a fine art and I've broken mine in 3 places. As for the weight gain I'd stick to what you are taking (they are all pretty much the same) but in my opinion unless you have a medical condition, exercise is the only way to lose weight and stretching is an excellent start, good luck with it. I should add that I went from 18&1/2 stone to 14 & 1/5 - 15 stone in 3-4 years. Your weight will always fluctuate. Anyway good luck with it.
