Updated

My 84 year old mother in law has used this drug for MANY years. She says to calm her and just want to know more about it-side effects, addictive effects, etc. She also takes ambien religiously. Can you advise? Driving? etc.

I'm sorry but the closest match I could find to Razipan was Lorazepam. Is this what you were referring to?

Lorazepam has relatively potent anxiolytic effects and its best known indication is the short-term management of severe chronic anxiety. This would explain why she takes it to feel calm.

Regarding side effects and other general information, you can learn more here: Lorazepam Details

As far as Ambien goes, my findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between this and Lorazepam. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

"Using Lorazepam together with (Ambien) Zolpidem may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

I hope this info helps!

Would warn her to use Ambien only when needed because it can become a dependency- cant sleep w/out it and also sleep disorder where it causes the opposite effects mind wont shut down. Work in medical community, have seen Ativan and Ambien used together by an elderly woman and she did fine except complaining of bad dreams we discontinued one or the other cant remember for 1 day before she wanted it back. Recently was prescribed Xanax and NP told me it was ok to continue Ambien- together they work good (for now) Have to be careful with all these types of meds with elderly- falls, etc.
