I am looking for tripelennamine. As a pharmacist I clearly remember 60mg then sr 100mg tabs being available. Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra together could not work as well pbz. I worked at smoke filled bowling alley back then and pbz with Sudafed were required.

According to "Martindale the Complete Drug Reference" & "Physician's Desk Reference", Pyribenzamine (tripelennamine hcl) is no longer produced in brand or generic versions in the USA.
It is said to still be available in bulk powder, something like a minimum order of 25 gram bottles, strictly sold only to a USA pharmacy, or a USA "compounding pharmacy". It is also noted to be manufactured in about 4 or 5 other countries, but those countries are based in or around Europe.
Others have suggested looking for a compounding pharmacy that may be willing to accommodate you, but there's no real guarantee that this method works for everyone, since it's availability seems to be dwindling.

It is so sad that BPZ in the form of allergy medication was stopped. Since the 50's I had severe seasonal classic hay fever. I could one half of a pill as as young kid and stop all symptoms totally. It did not tighten my chest like all other modern OTC pathetic med do. Maybe a little drowsy (take a night) of dry mouth (drink water) and that was it. Great stuff had no other effects in my life through adulthood. Nothing made prescript or OTC that even compares, nothing.

Isn't it strange! I too was given pyribenzamine as a youngster in Canada for hay fever and to help with eczema. Only drug that has ever worked for me. As a woman in mid sixties now, I suffer terribly with hay fever and cannot get anything in the UK that has nearly the complete and immediate effect, and yet it is not available here. Progress?

@Thomas...was the Pyribenzamine a light blue tablet? I remember being given something from the doc for the seasonal rhinitis that I had has a kid in Wisconsin. It was a light blue tablet and it knocked me out. I slept through half of the fourth grade.

I used to use PBZ as a child & in my teens. NOTHING has been able to even come close to helping me w/my severe & chronic allergies: HAY FEVER, SINUSITIS, ECZEMA, ITCHY WATERY EYES, ASTHMA, HIVES (caused by allergic reactions to EVERYTHING), EXTREMELY ITCHY SKIN ALL OVER. I could go on & on. ALL of my problems I inherited from my parents. If I didn't have bad genes, I wouldn't have any at all! LOL! Obviously, tho, it's no laughing matter. I suffer EVERYDAY, NOT seasonal, like other ppl around me. Oh, well.

I have a compounding pharmacy in new york state that will make tripelennamine (the drug name for pyribenzamine) capsules for me. I have to buy $100.00 worth. I rarely use them, so the one time I did this, I threw most of them out when they expired. I am looking for one or more people to do a shared refill from the pharmacy so that I don't have to purchase the entire compounded prescription. This is completely legal. You must live in the U.S. and have a prescription from a doctor. {edited for privacy}

Debbie - From where is the tripelennamine powder obtained? I think that it is unavailable from any US-based sources. I would be glad to share a refill with you if it is possible to get a Certificate of Analysis on the powder to verify identity and purity.

I would be interested if it is legal. I too took pyrabenzamine as a kid and it controlled my allergies. Mother would take half of a light blue tablet, crush it in a spoon and add sugar and water. It was bitter, but I didn't mind.

It's completely legally. It is from an actual pharmacy with pharmacists that also do compounding. There are two drug stores in the county I live in. What state do you live in?

I'm in New York. Half would be $50 for 50 30 mg. capsules, a third would be $33.33. Is that ok with you & can you definitely get a prescription? Do you know if we are allowed to exchange phone numbers?

Debbie, Please count me in. I am in North Carolina. BTW, a later medication I used for allergies was Ornade. It too was effective but is no longer available. It consisted of chlorpheniramine maleate and phenolpropanolamine.

Hi Sara, I called the pharmacy that compounded the tripelennamine for me. I still have the bottle. This is the drug that pyribenzamine was. They sold the drug store where they did the compounding and sold their compounding lab and don't do any compounding anymore. I'm not giving up; I'm still going to look for a pharmacy that will compound it..

Hi Debbie and Sara - that is too bad. Debbie: Did you speak recently to the folks who obtained the drug that they compounded for you? If so, would they tell you from where they obtained the API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and give you contact information? Ditto regarding the folks to whom they sold their business. If the buyers are still compounding, maybe the'd be interested in your (our) business.

Debbie and Sara: Try Googling "Ordering tripelennamine." Good news and bad news. Good news: I found a US-based source, namely SelleckChem in Boston. Bad news: They charge $97 for 50 mg. Don't have time now to do more research, but have a go at some of the other sites listed.

Wouldn't tell me who's lab sold to who or who they got it from. The pharmacy they sent customers to won't do it. I've googled with both names many times. ARE YOU SAYING 1-50 MG. PILL COSTS $97.00?

Yes, they are working well for me. Because they are so expensive I having taking one 100 mg cap at night and then generic fexofenadine (Allegra) in the morning. Seems to have gotten it under control very nicely. Since I had ServPro come in and take care of water and mold in the basement, my allergies seem to have lessened as well.

I'm definitely still interested in a share. I'm not interested in SR except if that's all I can get. The pharmacy I got it from was willing to do the share. Whatever pharmacy that compounds has to be willing to sell 1/2 of the minimum to two people. I haven't contacted either pharmacy mentioned here. Have you?
