Prolia Side Effects (Page 98)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Frankly, I am through with Big Pharma. Instead, a natural approach makes more sense. Save our Bones advises a dietary approach, eating an alkaline diet (foods that don't leech minerals from bones). In addition, exercises that contribute to bone growth, muscle growth, etc. In addition, safe, natural supplements.

Sal~You cannot go to a regular dentist. They will not touch us. You have to go to specialists that pull teeth, do gum work, implants, etc. Once in awhile you will find a dentist that does all of that but it's pretty rare. I just went up today for my two. The CT scan and medical visit was $600 and two implants will be close to $7,000 and then back to my dentist in the fall to have the crowns put on which will be at least $2,000 more. Prolia is expensive and fixing it's damage is even more so expensive. I'm on a long course of antibiotics. He thought they would relieve the pain I'm having from one of them plus getting rid of all damage caused by Prolia. Sad that Amgen is not paying for this that it caused. This will be my final chapter in my adventure with Prolia. I survived by a darn good Rheumatologist and Immunologist and now top rated dental guys. Hopefully, when everything settles down my Celiac Disease will retreat into remission too. Pood

Poodle... I have been sick, can barely eat, scopes show Chron's still in remission... Now they are testing me for celiac and gluten intolerance and c-dif..... Could this be a hangover from Prolia? I thought it was behind me....

I think something happened to my post.

Anyway, thank you poodle for your input.

I appreciate this site, this is a place where we can bring our issues and not be treated dismissively.

Has anyone had an issue of weight gain while on Prolia ?
I have gained 10 pounds that will NOT come off. This is in spite of poor appetite.

I gained 25 pounds and having a terrible time loosing any of it. That is one side effect, rapid weight gain. I can barely eat anything since loosing my top teeth thanks to Prolia. I will have implants in two more months and the teeth will be attached 4 months later. It is a nightmare. Have wished a thousand times that I had never had the Prolia injection.

YIKES! I have been avoiding buying new clothes (so far I have been living in leggings and tunic tops), but none of my warm weather clothes fit me.

The weight doesn't even come off after Prolia clears the system???

Mine had not come off and it has been over a year. I have lost 10 pounds but it has been a struggle. Good luck.

Diana~Gluten intolerance is in your DNA. If you have had children, you do not have Celiac Disease. There is something in Prolia that I really don't understand that brings to the front previously unknown problems in our DNA. C Diff would have to be picked up in a filthy restroom/restaurant and I really don't think you have been out that much to get it. It causes severe diarrhea and is easily detected by a Primary Care Doc. For the gluten, you have to have a special blood test that goes to an out of state lab and it tests your immunoglobulins. If your iGA is low, you have Celiac Disease but with rest and no stress it should go back into remission. Hope this helps answer your questions. Gluten causes vomiting and diarrhea as the body cannot tolerate it and it is damaging the inside of intestines. May I suggest you put both problems separately in your browser and read about them. Be well my friend~Pood

Judy~I checked on the new drug you got. It does have a lot of side effects and is quite new in the US, at least (2016). It is used to treat MAJOR DEPRESSION. I'm sure if you went to a Psychiatrist you could get easier to manage drugs like diazepam (Valium) for anxiety and Mirtazapine (Remeron) for depression. Neither have bad side effects that I have found. Both should settle you down and you will sleep like a baby. These are both old drugs that have been out for quite some time. Do your own fact checking and find out if you agree. I know the Prolia journey is horrid but I don't believe you have Major Depression. Sometimes Docs get on with the new and forget the old - case in point: Prolia. I've only met one person in my whole long life that had Major Depression and there was a very good reason for it. She was blind and had a seeing eye dog. One day in a city park, someone killed her dog and left her there alone with no help. Eventually someone found her. I don't believe she ever had the money to replace the dog though. Be well~Pood

My platelet count has decrease a little every year since I have been on Prolia for 3 years. It is now down to 98. Is this a side effect of Prolia? I have decided to tell my Doctor to find me an alternative medication for my Osteoporosis.

Thanks Pood for the info. Since I last posted about trintellix I stopped taking it. It did help the anxiety but I just couldn't tolerate feeling like a zombie! And I was on the lowest dose. My doctor has given me lorazepam which helps and I have demanded that I be referred to a physiotherapist. I'm now waiting and was told I should hear from someone within 3 weeks and if I don't to call her back. In the meantime I will check out remeron. About 20 years ago I was was Zoloft which really helped but when I tried it recently I had such terrible diarrhea I had to stop. I seem to be very sensitive now to a lot of meds ( Prolia is the best example!) . I've decided the best cure for depression and anxiety is having a pet. We had to put our beloved Persian down 2 years ago so I'm now in the process of finding a new pet to join our household. I'd prefer a dog but as we are not getting any younger and will probably be moving into a condo in the next few years a cat would be more likely to be allowed. Also easier if we decide to go away on holidays!

Judy~I hate to tell you that the med you are currently on is very, very, very addicting and is extremely difficult to come off of because it causes the heart to stop and you are DEAD. More often than not, one has to be an inpatient at a psychiatrists' hospital to come off of it. Yes, it works really well and that's it's big problem. What are they trying to do with you up there? Kill you???? Prolia was more than sufficient and to now add these meds to your list. Know what you are taking. Check it out well on the net. Best wishes~Pood

Pood, I'm aware of how addictive these pills are. I was given a prescription of 30 1 mg in February and I still have 21 left. I only take 1/2 pill as needed. Actually I have found a meditation video on YouTube, Blisssful Relaxation, plus a few others and listen to it every evening and find it extremely helpful. Quite often I fall asleep before it's even finished! I also have a CD of a body scan meditation which is very helpful. I refuse to take any meds unless absolutely necessary. Thanks for your concern.

I had exactly the opposite problem with Prolia. In 3 months I lost 65 pounds. I walk into my Dr's office and she says: What the **** is wrong with you. I replied: You and your Prolia so she got busy really fast to get me well quickly. It's still a struggle now to get up to 120 where I would like to be. I just don't care much about food and eating seems to be like work if that makes sense. No. I am not lucky. I just have the opposite problem and apparently my stomach shrunk so much it just cannot process much food even now. Plus Gluten Free is usually not very good at all. Pood

So, I just came from the dentist. The problem I am having moving teeth. These teeth are over the sites where I have a partial plate/ removable bridge as a result of previous extractions. This is the source of my teeth pain.

My question is this : do I need to wait until the Prolia clears my system ? Bear in mind that I have no evidence of necrosis or infection, or any of the horrors related to Prolia.

You can not have any dentist work done for 6 months after a treatment.
