I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I swear never again for Prolia shot! I had it last day of August 2016. After 2 1/2 weeks, I started experiencing severe abdominal pain to the point of passing out. The pain wakes me up early in the morning around 3am, 4am and sometimes 5am. Am still dealing w/ the pain to this day. My doctor gave me a medication to take for anti spasmodic pain and it does work. Don't know how long this side effect will linger as I am sick and tired of it and it affects my lifestyle!

Anne, I have realized that about eczema and the dermatologist has given me a script which is helping. What is really bothering me is my mouth. So many food items sting when I eat as well as my lips are continuously very sore. I'm also beginning to wonder if my sore muscles in my arms and shoulders are another effect of prolia. I though it could be from all the knitting I've been doing. I have spent too much money on massage and a chiropractor . I think he's even made it worse. Needless( or should I say, needle less!) I have stopped knitting. Even typing this hurts in my upper arm. I am so hopping angry about this whole prolia thing. They phoned me this week to remind me of my next injection in January and I gave them quite an earful. Got no answers from them as to whether these side effects would ever go away.
I was talking to a person I know who had been in contact with the Food and Drug branch of our Canadian government regarding a work related situation and during the conversation it was mentioned how the government is constantly pressured by drug companies to approve their new drugs. There is also much wining and dining
that goes on with doctors to prescribe them . My mother, years ago, worked for a doctor and would tell me about all the free drugs that were given to doctors as well as other perks!

My doctor prescribed dexolent which was so helpful but then Mayo Clinic said it kept my body from absorbing my calcium- so they prescribed ranitidine and that helps with pain, cramps, reflux and gerd . It's not a cure all but makes a noticeable improvement. Prolia turned my insides inside out, so it seems...,

Judy~I was actually referring to Mentholatum for the nose. I live in a high desert and I use it every night. So did my Mother who lived to be 96. I think it would sooth the inside of the nose and keep the scabs from coming off before they have totally healed. I'm on Calcitonin now and use it in the nostril that did not get the Calcitonin as they are switched every day. I think it smells some better than Vicks in my opinion. I'm glad the yogurt helped some. Maybe keep it up until your Docs can figure out what is wrong. It is from the Prolia and something in your immune system is totally messed up. You have had it checked for bacteria and virus and other things? I think you went to an ENT specialist, didn't you? What was thought to be the problem or was it the usual 'I don't know'. I wonder if Prednisone would help this condition. You would have to take the pills because there is no way you can spread that all over your mouth. It works well on Prolia rashes and other skin problems so it may work well for the mouth. Ask your Dr. for a Rx and try it to see if it works for the mouth or not. It works quickly so you would know quickly if it is going to help you. The only downside to Pred is bone thinning which you definitely won't have with Prolia and taking 10mg/day has to be reduced very slowly when coming off of it or it causes blood problems. It too can be a wicked drug but it takes a wicked drug to fight a wicked drug and Prolia is extremely wicked as we all know. Be well~Pood

Thanks,Poodle. I 'll check it out. The ENT dr suggested that I try vasoline in the nose. A bit on the end of my finger and then breath it in. It did help except for one small stubborn area. Also re my mouth, I have been on PPIs for some time now for acid reflex, and she feels that it could possibly be causing the stinging etc. She wanted to scope my throat but I objected. I gag very easily and the thought terrified me. My lips are also very sensitive and chapped. My B12 and thyroid blood work came back normal. She will probably try the scope next time I see her. It absolutely terrifies me. In the meantime I have been reading up on PPIs and the damage they can do over time. I tried to stop last week but the acid reflex and beltching became intolerable so....back again. I did notice that my food started to taste a bit better! They also can affect bone density. I'll see next week when I have a bone density again. Then on to see the Dr. Who prescribed the prolia. She wants to now "try" me on something else! Over my dead body! Up until this past July , I very rarely saw a Dr except for an annual check- up. Very discouraging.
As to my very sore upper back and arm muscles which I am assuming are from knitting ( surely not another prolia complaint) I have doubts as well about chiropractors. I'm worse now than when I went 2 weeks ago. It was originally just on the left side, now also moved to the right. $300 later and I'm in more pain than when I started! I go back tomorrow unless we get snowed in and I'm going to ask that they not use this weird machine with cups that send currents into my muscles. Maybe my mother's old standby theory of a bath with Epson salts may be the best answer! Time, maybe , to crack open the bottle of cognac I was saving for christmas!

I have been off Prolia almost 2 years and I am daily having flairups with excema and
my doctor too told me that it was not Prolia. I had not had excema until I started
Prolia. I am furious that it was ever put on the market and I am still having
acid reflux I came off the prescriptions for that and started taking Pepcid
complete and it works just as well as any high dollar prescription and I don't believe it hurts your body.

Judy~you put the Mentholatum on your lips at night too when you go to sleep.During the day you can use it or other brands like ChapStick, etc. I highly doubt your sore muscles are from knitting. Prolia needs Calcium and lots and lots of it. The human body really cannot store calcium as we use it so Prolia goes into our muscles to get the calcium it wants. When it robs our muscles of Calcium it causes us a lot of 'very nasty discomfort' because using the 'p' world only causes the mind to create more of it so always refer to it as very discomfortable. I cannot even imagine a Dr. wanting to put you on another osteoporosis med when you have yet to recover from the current one. Take 500mg of regular Magnesium every night when you go to bed. That should settle the muscles down a huge amount. Mine are not too hard to chew so I just chew it up and drink some water to get it all down. That way it is ready to go to work and not have to wait for stomach acids to dissolve it. This should help you some. Do you have sores in your throat too or is that a wild goose chase? As for gerd, read the recent post from WiseUpJanie. Be well my friend~Pood

Amgen really does not know. They know it's a bad drug and are working on a replacement for it as was written in the NY Times. They only followed people for 11 months. It takes a lot longer than 11 months to get a lot of the Prolia problems out of our body. They had no clue that it caused hair loss either and that should have been a 'given' considering it only has a little less of the active ingredient in it than does it's twin, Xgeva which is a true 100% chemo drug. It's good to call them though as they are required by law to report your side effects to the governing body of any country in which we live. Rather than chiropractor, do you have an acupuncturist available. They are very good at stopping the aches and pains of Prolia or there are physical therapy companies that do dry needling which is based on acupuncture but instead of using 'energy', they use specific body point marks. Look and you may find one. Be well~Pood

Poodle, re my lips , I have discovered a product , Cicaplast, ( la Roche- Posay) which is really helping. I just came from my GP ( not the dr who prescribed Prolia) and she is doing blood work and also referring me to a rheumatologist re my sore joints and muscles. She mentioned that it is an auto- immune problem I may have.if so prednisone can help. I worry about that, though, as it is not good for the bones. In the meantime the skin rash continues, spreads(now on my back) and my mouth sores get irritated , specially eating any citrus or spicy food. I found another webpage where , lo and behold, others are experiencing the same mouth problems. So I'm not just imagining it. Too coincidental! All I wait for now is for this awful stuff to leave my body.

1,300 days since I had my one and only Prolia injection. Almost 3 1/2 years. I measure my recovery in small milestones over the years. I keep a journal to measure my progress. I started to read postings all the way back to C Louise, Bennie, Anna, DP Girl, Lallie and Lynn Herondon. My docs predicts I will have 2 to 3 yrs more of side effects until my body recovers. As many of you have stated, you begin to feel better and then the side effects come back. This has happened to me also. I wish I had this site when I was going thru through the worst of it all. Remember it's not you, it's the Prolia. I am writing today because a post caught my attention. Two people noted stomach problems and indigestion, maybe infections? When I was on the phone with Amgen last week they asked me if I had stomach problems or infections. My two cents, did they ask this because they have had reports to this effect? If you had this side effect or others, call the FDA (1-888 463-6332) to report. Doctors are not required to report and Amgen is supposed to contact the FDA with reports. Just to be sure call the FDA. I suspect the next FDA Prolia label warning change may be for stomach issues.

Judy~please forget about Pred hurting your bones now. I promise that Prolia has made them so strong that a year on Pred. will not hurt you in the least. That's why it is a racehorse getting to the finish line ASAP. The only thing you need to worry about is going off of it VERY SLOWLY. In the meantime enjoy having that nasty rash GONE. Prolia is a very wicked drug as we all here know so it takes another wicked drug to fight it, If you don't, Prolia will win and you can easily be in misery for 3 Plus years. Worry about your immune system. That's a big worry with Prolia. When it is not working properly we can and do catch everything that's going around and can also lead to an autoimmune disease like I got and so did many others here. Some people got cancer from it as there are always cancer cells in our bodies but our immune system recognizes them and kills them before they can start. On occasion, they can change themselves so our immune system doesn't recognize them and when one gets by, it will invite all of it's friends to the party in your body. Worry about your jaw and teeth. Worry about your thigh bone breaking in half for zero reason at all - just an ordinary step and do not be the least bit surprised if you get a cataract in your eye too. Prolia is good at that too. There is a lot to worry about with Prolia so stop fretting about what is going to help you. Just make sure you come off of it very slowly, tapering off. Your Doctor should guide you on that so you have one less worry. Be well~Pood

My mother took the Prolia shot June of 2016. She has been in terrible pain ever since. Hip pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain, and arm pain. She has also had a UTI - first one in her life. She has lost approx 20 lbs. She is experiencing groin pain and struggles to walk every day. Prior to the shot , she has occasional lower back pain. She was told she had moved from Osteopena to Osteoporosis and needed the shot. She is sicks months in and still no relief. Has been referred to an Endocrinologist and also an Orthopedic Dr. She has also been told that the drug is no longer in her system. She was just recently diagnosed with Arthritis (never had prior) I too think that this is a case of money won. In everything I have read, this drug should have never been released to the public. It is so misrepresented when it is mentioned by the Physicians or the advertisements. There may have been some that have had no issues but the ones that are having issues, are having life changing issues. So we sit and wait and pray that the side effects ease up. At this point, I am not sure they ever go away. I could not find a post that said they ever got better. Is there anyone out there that had severe side effects from Prolia and they eventually got better.

Yes, the side effects are life changing & you lose all sense of hope that it will ever end.
I have had bone pain so severe in my thighs, hips, & groin & have just cried in pain. It has now been 16 months since my one & only injection of prolia & am still in daily pain. Not as bad, but the same pain none the less. The doctors absolutely know nothing about this drug. They only thing they see are $ signs the pharma company pays them each time they give the shot to an unknowing patient. May God forgive them because I surely can't.

Sheri~I read on one of these threads somewhere that people with stomach problems are taking an OTC version of Zantac, etc. I don't remember which one it was but they are pretty cheap and if you try different ones, you will find the correct one. Hugs~Pood

I am on Dexilant 60 mgs, Milanta and Tums, Before starting any of these bone density medicine, Fosimax, Boniva and then Prolia, I was doing better. This has really taken over my life. I am miserable everyday and nothing is helps. I have tried going back to exercise and I push myself but all my bones ache. I listened to and take 200 calcium and 500 magnesium. Soooooooooooo Sorry I ever took Doctor's advise. Sheri
