Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Pops, I think you forgot that I never took prolia thank god. Someone at my doctors office tried to get me to take it but once I researched chef it and found this site I had decided not to. I'm not taking anything for the osteoporosis now. I haven't taken anything yet.

What's going on now is my type-1 diabetes, Hashimotos, IBS, hyperparathyroidism and who knows what else. Supposedly a virus & dehydration put me in the hospital with high Bg and high ketones. I'm still sick and I came back worse this weekend. My Bg is crashing nearly any time I eat so I can only eat small meals with no more than 10-20g carbs, that was happening before the stomach virus. My eosinophil count is very high so it could've an infection or a parasite maybe. I do wonder if something is going on with my adrenal glands too.

I have thought for a while I have celiac or wheat sensitivity and after the type-1 diagnosis I went gluten free. My Kat test was negative but I wasn't eating gluten for 4 months then so it could be wrong. There's a new test in Australia for which you don't have to eat gluten- I hope it comes to the U.S. Soon.

I was exposed to gluten when I was in the hospital by accident with some bread crumbs on flounder. My stomach/bowels got worse again after.

I'm having some scary dizzy spells too. I hope I feel better soon too. Unfortunately these diseases aren't going anywhere. I ruin if I'd have taken prolia it would've killed me for sure. My osteoporosis developed between 2009-12 prolly. When I went into early meno. Way too fast. And I was on hrt for 1.5 years of that time. It may be from primary hyperparathyroidism because in excreting high levels calcium in urine.

Thanks Pood, I posted a long reply but it's not showing up yet, it had to be reviewed.. I think you forgot that I didn't take prolia fortunately. This is all from my other health issues which aren't going anywhere unfortunately. I'll post more later if the other reply doesn't show up. The recent diet is due to a stomach bug or something that probably caused high blood sugar and ketones and landed me in the hospital. I'm not sure what is going on really, I seemed to be getting better and then the night before last I got worse again, hence the diet. I eat gluten free now since type 1 diagnosis, but I accidentally ate a tiny bit when I was in the hospital.

So true, you can't believe what they sneak wheat into, soups, sauces, even ice cream! ben and jerry's regular and new vegan almond milk ice cream has wheat flour in it! It's nutso. A lot of people who do better with gluten free also don't do well with dairy though. I sometimes have trouble with it but I can usually eat cheese and yogurt. Although I had cut yogurt out for a long time too, but added it back in because there is nothing else soft to eat that has some carbs and protein that I can eat right now. I had some in the hospital too and it didn't seem to spike me there, before it was spiking blood sugar too much.

Kudos to you for drinking bone broth- I bought several boxes of Pacific brand bone broth... I gagged with every sip- I drink them all but haven't bought anymore. Do you make your own? Or do you have another brand you like? I need a more tasty version!

Thanks Jan, My neighbor bought me some of the chicken broth at wholefoods, the pacific brand I think when I had a bad cold 3-4 months ago and I also practically gagged on it, lol. But now I bought some after getting out of the hospital thinking it would give me protein with almost no carbs and stop my blood sugar going up, I need to eat protein every 4-5 hours. But the plain chicken broth has only 1g protein. So then I saw the bone broth has 9g protein which is great. I thought that tasted better than the chicken broth.

I don't know if it is because eating solid food makes me feel sick now and this is very mild and easy to digest. The dietician at the hospital said to try and make my own because it can be very healing. You just take the chicken bones and I guess the left over skin and meat and put it in a crock pot. I don't feel well enough to do it right now and it's just easier to have it ready made.

But I will try it eventually. I put lots of sea salt in mine too which makes it taste better. My kittycat loves it too :-) She came to eat the last drop out of my bowl.

The brands I bought are: pacific organic chicken and organic bone broth and imagine organic chicken broth. The Imagine brand chicken broth tastes better because it has carrots in it with two carbs. I also got the pacific vegetable broth but I haven't tried that one yet, it has 2g carbs. I guess the bone broth has more protein because it has bones in it? I had some earlier when my blood sugar spiked and I had to do a big correction but couldn't eat also but had to eat something. This time I added the imagine chicken broth to the bone broth and Real Salt brand sea salt and it was delicious. I'm going to try adding some vegetable broth to the bone broth next time.

Be aware ladies that most salts have sugar/dextrose added into them as well as another additive calcium silicate that stops caking. I bought what I thought was a good sea salt at WF made by Heins I think and it has these added in, for some reason I didn't read the ingredients which I nearly always do. So I've switched to the Real Salt brand sea salt which comes in a shaker. I don't want sugar and that additive in my salt. I usually get the iodized salt but this one doesn't have it I think. Some of the other sea salts have the natural minerals but I'm not sure if they have iodine.

Antoinette~you need to get to a retina specialist immediately. That tear is nothing for them to fix and even if your retina starts to fall down, they stitch it back up; It's just amazing what these docs can do. Please go ASAP -- like an emergency. The tear can cause a small hole in the retina which means you have zero vision in that tear. Get it fixed. A Dr. that does cataracts and general eye surgery cannot help you. You have to have a retina specialist. The worst that happens to you is you have to sleep on your back for a few weeks as they don't want the head moving around when one is sound asleep. Medicare pays for it so no worry there.

Antoinette and also Trish and everyone else with eye problems due to prolia,

I agree with Pood, go to a retinologist ASAP, as an emergency if you have a tear. Do not take a chance with your vision. I go to one once per year due to diabetes as well as to my regular eye doc for rx for glasses. He also does a thorough exam and even tested me for closed angle glaucoma for free. The insurance wouldn't pay for it and they told me the know that and they just do it for free. That is a great doctor imo.

Skittle~it is here now. I opted not to take it. I just did my 'own experiment' and when I chowed down on Mac & Cheese and about 5-6 cookies I was really sick. The next day I ate no gluten and had no diarrhea or vomiting. Why waste money. It left when the Prolia did but my Doc says it's only in remission. How can something I never had before and disappeared with the Prolia be in remission. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Been having bi -annual prolia shots since 2011. No problems until May 25 2016. WHAM! within 8 hrs-. Severe PAIN IN left shin.( I'm familiar with pain. Had 4 joint REPLACEMENTS) Prime MD ordered ultra sound, xray (ok..so far) & proscribed prednisone. Worked on shin pain ( severe) after abt. 10 days. Have been so fatigued and weak and sickly since onset. Usually am moderately active. ALSO, unusual edema in both legs, ankles, feet. MD has ordered numerous thorough Lab/blood tests. Ok. Until this week (July 12'16) have been using walking cane. Still debilitated. Wonder if I will ever recover?

Anti Prolia
I had my second and last shot of Prolia in Jan 2016. About 5 days afterward I had a slight pain in my right groin area. It kept spreading to my hip and thigh I had a lot of tests done and found out I have a fractured femur bone. I might have to have a rod put in. I've been using a walker and cannot drive.i have also been badly bloated with weight gain. I know it's all from the Prolia. My weight has been the same for a long time. I hate it. I will not take pain pills for the severe pain. Is all they do is make tired. I see my Dr next Wed. And I'll take from there.
Good luck I feel for you.

Pood I have not heard of it comimng here yet, do you know the name of that test? I've forgotten now. I do prefer to have this confirmed now because I'm having multiple issues and it may help in my treatment. That is weird that your doc says you still have it. Were you retested to see if you still have it? once you have an autoimmune disease it is vey very rare for it to go away. But since it was caused by prolia maybe it's possible.

Skittle~it's just a blood test to check immunoglobulins. They are part of what makes up our immune system. When they get messed up, autoimmune disease happen. Mine was IgA -- which meant I was allergic to wheat, barley and rye. It's called Celiac Disease. After the Prolia went 'poof' mine went into remission. I lost 65 pounds in 3 months, totally unable to keep any food in either end. I was barfing it up or if it managed to get into the gut well it came out like water. There are 5 that we have and any one of the 5 could cause you big problems. It has to be sent to a speciality lab for reading the results, not an ordinary one that does most of the blood work. The immunoglobulins in turn, make the T-cells and T-cell helpers that seek and destroy foreign invaders in our body. When they get messed up, they attack the body. Just make an appt. with your Dr. and tell him or her that you want this test done and to send it to the appropriate lab. You should have the results within 5 days. Easy, huh? And, then you will know. I also requested T-cell test but was told they can only do that if there is a high suspicion of HIV-Aids which does not include us. Hope you get some answers soon! Hugs~Pood

Pood I have type 1 & hashimotos and Ive the testing for autoimmune diseases etc. I have been tested twice for celiac once years ago- it was negative. And once after my type 1 diagnosis again negative. But that time I had stopped eating gluten for 4-5 months due to my reactions to it. So I do t know for sure if I have it. Some people don't even have symptoms but their organs get damaged over time from it from eating gluten. What I was saying is there is a new celiac test in Australia which is supposed to better and more accurate because you don't have to eat gluten for several weeks at least for it to be accurate. I want to have they test because I'm not going to start eating gluten again. Also supposedly the only way to really accurately test for it is to do a biopsy with upper endoscopy. It looks like I'm gong to need that soon anyway. But I hope not. I'm sorry you were so sick that is horrible. (( hugs)). I hope you have a permanent remission from it. Do you eat gluten now?

I forgot to say that I had the T cell testing for type 1 in a research study I was in and I do have the T cells that kill off the beta cells which make insulin
As well as theantibodies for type 1 that was tested in the hospital when I was in DKA.

@Skittie. Yes. We have it here too. My Dr. mentioned it but I did my own test -- I pigged out on mac and cheese and numerous cookies -- wow, was I sick. The next day I ate no gluten and the food stayed in. There are other ways of knowing if one has it too by fingernails and I think maybe goosebumps on the skin of the behind. It can cause damage and a person would never know it until it's about too late. Prolia is very good at causing autoimmune diseases. Hugs~Pood

Thanks Pood, goosebumps on the behind? I've never heard of that one lol. I had an endoscopy. They did biopsies in two inflamed areas. One was the duodenum where they do celiac biopsies. Hopefully they can tell from that but some people told me if you're not eating gluten even the biopsie may not show it. I've learned et 14 pounds and I'm pretty sick- having trouble eating and Bg crashing when I eat so there's no way I'm adding in gluten to the mess. Even a tiny bit in the hospital made me worse. Also pwc told me I'm not gluten free because my family eats gluten I'm getting cross contamination. So now I'm putting all dishes in the dws on sterilize. I'm going crazy trying to avoid it. Well I tried to adopt a Siamese kit but the one I wanted passed away. It will be Nov prolly before I get a baby boy. So sad. None of my doctors know how to help me. I'm eating tiny meals food ground up with shakes and very low carbs and almost no insulin but I'm getting nausea bloating pain etc. if I eat too much or sometimes not. Bg is too big most of the time and the. It crashes if I don't eat enough. I keep dreaming about my life before all of this hell. Wish I could go back to my old life. I looked at a golden doodle in a pet shop- so cute but very expensive. Hope you and everyone are ok. Hugs

Everyday my chest is on fire from indigestion, told my husband I can't live like this, just want to get out of my body. I am going to Gastro on Friday but I don't think there is any hope he can help me. I am on prescription meds for acid reflux, but he won't up it because they cause bone loss, so it is a vicious cycle that I want to get off.

Skittle~T cells that kill insulin doesn't sound good to me at all. They should know with the endoscopy if you have CD or not. Prolia causes such an array of problems it is difficult to pin point what is what without ALL the tests. November will soon be here. I cannot believe it's already August. You have that baby and he will help you get will and give you an excellent reason for keep going in this horrid world we have of post-prolia. Keeping you in my prayers. Hugs~Pood

Thanks Pood,

I didn't take prolia thank god because I'm sure IDE be dead if I did. This is all happening from autoimmune diseases I already had. Your 1 diabetes U.S. An sutoimmune disease where your body stacks the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. It mistakes the best cells for an invader and produced T cells to a stack them. Same thing for hashimotos which I have also- the thyroid is attacked. I just hope not going to add celebrate av to the list. I'm not so sure about the biopsy because people with celiac said if you eat even gluten light and not gluten free your digestive tract can heal and it can be hard to tell. I will just have to go gluten free somehow avoid the cross contamination and see if it helps me. Some people don't heal from gluten free but they do prevent further damage. Yes I hope I get my baby boy at the end of October. I have never had a purebred cat, I just get my babies from outside or shelters. @ Sheri try pepto bismal that helps reflux pain a lot. Eliminate all acidic foods, fat and anything irritating from your diet. Eat soft, soothing foods. I'm back on a proton pump inhibitor which has helped too. Drink lots of water, I mean tons. Hugs to everyone. <3

@Skitty~Rheumatologists are supposed to work with Drs. that work with autoimmune diseases. They have the people with HIV-Aids well taken care of so I'm sure one could help you too. I think she called them "Immunologists". You definitely need to be referred to one to get your body back to it's original condition. We don't even have one. She sends him the info and he sends her the treatment plans. Have you been on that route either. The net has some really good recipes for GF foods and there are GF crackers, etc. at the grocery store. I still eat the crackers because they are so very good.
