I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I had my one and only Prolia injection December 2015 and had lost 5 teeth and now in the middle of teeth implants. I am very upset and will never take this again. One dentist told me that the Prolia never totally gets out of your system.

Judy~please check your local drug store for an over the counter med called Biotene.
It is for dry mouth. Quite cheap really. It was widely advertised in the US so I would think you would have it too. I would just call different ones up and ask if they carry it.
Be well~Pood

Wow! Kitty~now I know exactly where mine came from. I was at my Dr's office getting X-rays of past total knee replacement and future total knee replacement. He made the comment ...and your back is a mess. That says it all, doesn't it. Put broken vertebrae in with scoliosis and one does have a real mess. Thank you for finding that gem. It's been 2-1/2 years since one and only Prolia injection and my back still hurts badly. My Doc gives me meds for it. Now I will ask her to X-ray it. Thank you~Pood

Judy, I kept a notebook right here by my Mac. Every symptom I got was written down because I knew when I called Amgen and the FDA I would forget something. So, it was just reading the list to them and the list was rather lengthy with 5 MDs involved from a Primary, Cardiologist, Psychiatrist, Rheumatologist and Immunologist. I did not include my Dentist since he told me to stay away until symptom free. I would cross off what I had reported and started a new list. It's rather mind boggling when we put it all together - how one injection could do all of this. The Psychiatrist was extremely intelligent and it was the Rheumatologist with the Immunologist that got me well QUICKLY. I always say: the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Pood

Jan~how to you feel otherwise? If cuts are slow in healing it means your immune system is still impaired and that you still have a lot of active Prolia in you. I would think after a year you would be in the 'clear' but it seems you are not. Have the aches and pains quit? Insomnia gone? Feel good like you can take on the world for your age?

Jan~how much Prolia? All of us react differently to it. I know of nothing else in this world that causes what you are experiencing other than Prolia and the Bis' before it. Some people can have only one injection and they lose their quality of life for a couple of years or more. Yes, Prolia is supposed to disappear in the 6th month but look at how many people we have here that it didn't happen for them. They are still struggling to get their lives back. One cannot believe anything Amgen or your Rx'ing Doctor says. There are too many unknowns with Prolia and Amgen knows it. That is exactly why they are busy cooking up it's replacement. Pood

Jan~and some people that have had the loose teeth have had braces put on their teeth to keep them in place. If it truly works, I don't know because they never reported back on here. Pood

Judy~first I would not go to my Dentist because he told me to NOT return until I was totally symptom free and if I had dental problems I had to go to the specialists that repair gums, do implants, pull teeth, etc. In the US, this is done by something like a Maxofacial Specialist and please forgive my spelling of that. Their office is very close to my house. He is older and has only seen one case of ONJ in his life and to quote him "it was nasty". I thought I was getting it but it was a nerve that went from injection site to mouth and took a couple of years to go away. Pood

Judy~Actonel does not include in the least Reclast or Boniva so you should not have had Prolia.

I need to know anyone's experience with dental work done after prolia.

I am one year post prolia shot.

I now have gum disease which I never had before. My X-rays show bone loss in jaw and my teeth are loose though less loose than 5 months ago.

When I cut myself, I take longer to heal an injury than I did before.

I apparently need some dental work and am concerned about doing it now-

My dentist says there is no prolia connection at this pount but I feel differently.

Any thoughts?

Pood, yes I was on Actonel some years ago. It was prescribed for me by my previous GP. I was considered borderline osteopenia. After so many years I was taken off. My bone density had improved and my memory is vague but there may have been another reason as well. I don't think I was ever considered high risk. When I started seeing the gyno for another reason she was also running an osteo clinic at st Michaels hospital in Toronto and she was considered a top notch Dr. For the 10 or so years I saw her she'd do a bone density and never prescribed anything until 2 years ago. I do know for a fact that she is in big with big pharma! Any bone problems I've had were a broken wrist at 13, a broken toe running around in my bare feet, a small bone in my foot about 20 years ago racing out of the house, again in bare feet and twisting my ankle! Oh yea I also feel and injured my knee about 7 years ago. That's all, I bike, hike, cross- country ski. Do clowning in nursing homes.... In other words, I'm very active! So, no, I don't think it was a last resort for me. When I told her I was stopping she didn't seem too upset and said to come back in 6 months and we'll discuss what I should take....long winded, I know. Must be my Irish loquacious personality! Will let you know what the rheumatologist says. I also see a dentist on Thursday who specializes in dry mouth and other mouth problems. It's because of dry mouth that I got an infection in my front tooth and almost lost it! Once I can compile all the results of these visits I will call Amgen again!

Keni~do you mean you have had Prolia and are now using Celebrex for your knee? Did you have knee problems before Prolia? When you raise you foot from sitting on the floor to slowly straightening the leg do you feel any grating or other noises from your knee? Have you ever been diagnosed with Arthritis - either one but mostly Osteo Arthritis. So what about for sure do you want to know about Prolia that you are not finding here? You have given us 0 information. Aches and pains from Prolia are very different from OA pains and IMHO, Celebrex doesn't work and never has. Since it is not helping you, ask for Nambumetone 750mg x2 per day with food. It's in the major leagues of OA medications and also Mobic twice a day is a good med until it wears out. Even my dog takes Mobic for her knee. Hope this helps until you explain more. Pood

Kitty~Prolia and Xgeva are the same drug. Xgeva has more of the 'active ingredient' in it. It is supposed to be used for bone cancer. Be well~Pood

Judy~the political scene in the US has absolutely nothing to do with Canada. Florida is full of excellent physicians because so many older people go there for the weather. You would have to pay out of pocket though and that could get expensive. Let us know what your Rheumatologist has to say after tomorrow please. Be well~Pood

Diana,
Prolia does indeed affect your nerves. It can cause sciatica, which is nerve pain in your buttocks & down one or both of your legs. Believe me, I had is so severely that I was almost unable to walk. I have had 6 injections in my lower spine since taking the one & only shot of prolia. It helped for a while, but this devil's drug kept rearing it's ugly head & the pain would begin all over again. It has been 19 months now since the injection. My doc should be ashamed of himself for even suggesting prolia in the first place. I would like to give it to him & then he would know what we are all going through with side effects. On top of that, he accepted money from Amgen for each patient he scammed with this so called drug. Go to dollars for docs & look up your own physician. Money is more important to doctors than the patient's well being.

Judy~the answer to whether you needed Prolia is very, very simple. Have you tried ALL of the previous drugs and they did not work? Then, yes, a candidate for Prolia. Prolia is supposed to be a drug of LAST RESORT, NOT FIRST. If you had not had all the previous drugs and she just put you on Prolia you may have a reason to start a litigation against her as it is against Amgen's rules. It's not really going to hurt her as it will just go through her malpractice insurance but it may teach her a lesson she needs to learn. Be well~Pood

Elaine~if a person is on 10mg of Prednisone daily for one year and does not come off of the drug very slowly it will cause blood clotting problems such as DVT's and PE's. The injection to remove PE's was $6,000 but I'm sure it's much, much more now. That was a 2008 price. Radiologists can now get into the vein and remove the clot in the legs. But, they are still very dangerous as can go thru heart or on up to the brain. Even on the little pack you had, it tapered off slowly at the end. You probably only had two days of full Pred and the remainder was to take you off of the drug s-l-o-w-l-y so you don't develop these bad problems. Pood

Diana~we have had a guy in here searching for information to help his mother because she has the nerve problems on arms/hands and legs/feet severely. I told him where to find an Immunologist and he has been quiet since then so hopefully she was able to help his mother.

I an also a terrible worrier and a specific planner, and intimidated easily by doctors. I would advise keeping a separate notebook for your symptoms, day by day, write them down. There will be a pattern. Take them with you to the doctor's office. And, if possible report them to Amgen, the maker of the drug. If enough people report, they might do something about it. And this can be serious, a percentage can die from the side effects. I don't want to alarm you, but it is very crucial you take care of yourself, Record anything new that crops up. It may or may not be Prolia. My nerves in my neck started burning like fire. I had to spend a bunch of money getting a nerve ablation to stop the pain. I could barely walk because of bursitis which I never before had in my life! (I'm 72 now). I took my fear and began searching on the internet. I found a possible cause for my osteoporosis which was a tumor on my parathyroid, as well as steroids which I took for Crohns Disease for 15 years. I had the tumor removed and immediately lost most of the pain in my body. It returns some off and on, but they told me that it might take 15 to 18 months for my bones to return to normal. I have a theory that this drug disturbs the PTH hormone in the body - certainly the outpour of PTH hormone into my body was causing many of my symptoms. I researched Prolia - and it and Reclast both appear to affect the PTH mechanism as far as I can tell. I'm not a scientist - - - but I feel better than even a few years before starting Prolia, except my ability to walk well is still limited. As far as I can tell, my theory only at this point, that Prolia also attacks the nerves in the body.
Best of wishes for your recovery. And don't give up, keep searching, there is hope!!!!!
