I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I don't believe they did one in Canada. First Amgen sent mice into space with Prolia. Interesting, but what does that have to do with humans. We are not lab rats. Secondly, the clinical trial was for 11 whole months in the US. From 11 whole months they came up with the side effects and their trial is available to view on line. I'm quite sure Canada approved it only because the US did. Often times Canada is first with a drug from an European country, but because Amgen is from California and is an American as apple pie and hot dogs, the US led the way for it to be in all countries. Now you know exactly where to place the blame -- the FDA in the USA. Be well~

Maybe they will start leaving us alone since Amgen with another company has come up with a different drug. We can only HOPE and HOPE that people look here before taking that FIRST injection. I sure did not want it and my Doc forced it on me by saying it would make my knee replacement surgery much better. Duhhh!! What surgeon in his right mind would operate on a person with a highly compromised immune system! She has justified her mistake by deeply apologizing, getting me more than appropriate help during the Prolia and we are now letting by-gones be by-gones but the trust is lost forever. I'm sure this is true of everyone of us -- will we ever trust the Dr. that gave us Prolia again in our lives! Be well~

Laura, my husband has atrial fib and was put on pradaxa. He had a stoke anyway and could not be given the clot buster because of possible bleeding. His cardiologist(a new one, I might add) put him on warfarin and he's been fine since. As he said, warfarin is tried and true. Yes you do have to have regular blood work done but at least we know that it's safe with no side effects except for bruising which the others also cause. Not too sure why you're on a blood thinner or why you weren't prescribed warfarin.

I can attest to side effects going on years after my last injection. It has been almost 2 years since my 3rd and last injection and I'm still dealing with muscle pain, dry mouth, mouth sensitivity and joint pain. Not to mention gum grafts, implants etc.due to tooth infections. Now I could blame this on aging but I had absolutely none of this prior to Prolia . Previously whenever I had any muscle pain it was attributed to something I had experienced.....overuse, digging in the garden, etc. So yes, the long term effects don't miraculously disappear after Prolia is stopped. I wish! The cost to my enjoyment of life is, at times, most depressing.
I just read an article online about my prescribing MD and how she worked along with drug companies doing trials on new drugs. Certainly I was never told I was in a trial but it does make me question why she was so eager to have me take Prolia! I certainly never signed anything. I'll never know!

I had no rebound effects. As for taking another drug, see my earlier post regarding the European commission findings.. If you have no history of falls,
you might want to reconsider taking another drug.

Hi Marion. Look in the back pages. There are people that have had that very same side effect and it seemed as if their Docs could not relate it to Prolia. I don't believe a blood thinner is going to help that problem. Do you have a Neurologist where you live? They would be better in guiding you with help for that specific side effect. Blood thinners are not going to stop the tingling and I don't have a clue as to why it's only at night. Make sure you call Amgen and the governing body of drugs in your country. Amgen has a toll free number for about every country in the world now. You could also go to an Acupuncturist. I don't understand it in the least but I do know it and hypnotherapy both work very well with all Prolia problems. Be well~

Did some more research and found out that a 2017 meta-analysis of studies concluded that Prolia isn't even effective for men!!! Fosamax is, though. Am SURE no Amgen drug rep ever told my rheumatologist about this 2017 paper:

I was taken off Xarelto by my reluctant hematologist and put onto Eliquis. However I find the side effects are pretty much identical. I'm due to have another consultation in June. I'm at my wits end about it all because any medico I speak to says it's neuralgia. The strange thing is, is that the burning sensation in all my limbs is only evident when I am trying to sleep. Does anyone else find this happens?

So appalled by the drug company that is causing these terrible side affects...it is like a NEW LATEST & GREATEST drug my mother was put on instead of Warfarin, Elequis, it is killing people & the company is now becoming being sued. It was taken off the market in USA but not Australia, my mother still suffers the terrible affects, she was one of the lucky ones that it didn't cause Death.

THIS DRUG SHOULD BE BANNED LIKE OTHER DRUGS CAUSING WORSE SIDE EFFECTS THAN THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM.

A small fracture in a vertebra is not going to cause you that much damage. It's nice to read that someone can take this medication without really serious side effects. Just stop it. We all did. It does not matter in the least how long you have been on it. Your Rheumatologist should have a bone scan ordered for you now tho. If your bone scan is good enough, you could stay off of any bone building medication for awhile. We have elected to not take any and so far we are all doing quite well. Be well~

Have had three Prolia injections so far. The side effects have been mild to moderate. They have included occasional, mild to severe muscle and joint pains, insomnia, palpitations, fatigue, apathy, depression, and irritability. I was not experiencing these before the injections. The side effects have lasted for about two months after each injection and then they fade out and then I feel normal again. Do not yet know if bone density has improved. Would like to come off of it, but am afraid of the rebound effects now that there are reports of multiple fractures occurring within months or years of coming off it. My rheumalogist suggested Zoledronate injections for when I stop the Prolia, but a recent Science Daily article featured research showing that even Zoledronate does not stop the rebound effects!! How do I get off it safely ????

Thanks. Again an example of a health care system that is not profit based.

My bone density had become depleted after a long period of inactivity following surgery; and I did experience vertebral fractures, nothing to do with falling

I'm a good example. I fell about 2 months ago....put my hand out to save myself from a head injury and broke my wrist. It was a minimally displaced radial fracture which required no setting back in place. At 76 they were surprised that it wasn't worse. I felt a bit smug as I am on no meds now for my bones and am taking a high dose of D, eat high calcium diet and walk on a daily basis.{except during our snowy Canadian winters!]I always questioned why I was even put on Prolia and have come to the conclusion that the doctor somehow got some kind of compensation from Amgen. So thanks Sal for that info.

I too had osteopenia. Took one shot and had all kinds of problems. I had a fractured back and two fractured ribs. I'm 76 years old and never had a fracture in my life.

My hair is falling out. I have had one injection. I won’t do anymore. To many bad things with this drug bi am taking lots of calcium and Vit D plus potassium , magnesium, and iron.

So, this is National Osteoporosis Month and there are seminars, etc. sponsored by Big Pharma, in particular a video made by Amgen. Meanwhile, a European study has concluded a history of falling is the greater indication of fracture, NOT Bone Mineral Density as we are told!

That makes a lot of sense. I have just been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism which I've never known before. Is it possible that Prolia has had anything to do with this or am I just being paranoid?
