Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 2)

Updated

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Anne~the problem with the FDA is they only put the warning labels on the info sheet that comes with Prolia that is for the MDs to read. Do you really think they read that? I think the FDA is wasting their time. Now, at almost one year, my hair is still falling out. I don't know when it's going to quit -- I think it goes back to the half lives and there will always be that poison in us no matter how long we wait. I'd love to color it but I'm scared to death of what would happen. Next to breast cancer, Prolia is the worst thing that happened to me in my life. Yup, me again~Pood

I have not gone for my 3rd shot of Prolia because of the hair loss, yet! My hair is growing back and filling in the thinned spots. I should have had the shot by January.
I am still not sure what I will do because I recently had a tooth implant and when I returned 4 months later for the post and crown, the oral surgeon said that so much bone had grown over the implant that he had to take some off the implant. This proves to me that the Prolia and the calcium must be working!!!

.I have been taking Prolia for 2 years now. This was the third drug I was place on I wasn't able to use the others due severe symptoms, vomiting and painful joints. When I first started taking the drug I developed a severe case of painful fluid filled red bumps on my cheeks around my eyes. My hair was coming out and thinning , extremely dry and brittle. I went to my dermatologist for an answer, she only prescribed more drugs and injections into my scalp to help with the hair loss, which didn't help. I have experience itchy face and scalp. It takes me quite a while to get over a sinus infection. I did my research and realize what was causing all of these problems. I have decide not to take this drug again. Hopefully this will shed some light to others experiencing the same symptoms.

NO - the side effects of prolia do not wear themselves out in 6 Months!!! I am now at 7 months, 2 weeks, & 4 days, & today is one of the worst PAIN days I have had so far. I contacted Amgen (Maker of prolia) a few weeks ago & voiced my deep concerns. The following week, I received a personal letter & a 26 page side effects & the results of their study on same. WA! WA! big deal. It was in a nice portfolio, Ha! It stated that sciatica (Nervous system) is included with the side effects of which I now have. Prolia IS the cancer drug that causes hair loss. There is one thing you can do about that. Talk to your doc about taking a round of prednisone to stop the hair loss. It definitely helps. The sad part is: most docs are not educated enough on that poison drug. I still say all docs should have to take the inj. prior to prescribing it to innocent people.

I have started experiencing tooth and jaw pain. The pain will start on one side of my face and move to the other side. I can't tell if the pain is coming from my teeth or my jaw, it appears to be both. The pain is intense. My face rash has returned, on my cheeks and around my eyes. The bumps are pink and painful. The bumps usually last a day or two. I drink lots of water when the bumps appear so that they will go away quickly.

I too have had vast hair loss from prolia. Prolia is a cancer drug & as we are aware, cancer drugs cause hair loss. You can find additional info on the National Cancer Institute's website about it being a cancer drug & about the hair loss that goes along with it. I am now 8-1/2 months post prolia & my hair loss is slowing down some, but only after my doc gave me a script for prednisone has it slowed down. My Dr. is filing an adverse effect report on all of my suffering these last months to the FDA on my behalf & in turn I am staying in close touch with Amgen (Maker of prolia) & the FDA by phone, email, & in writing as well, as I want this info for my personal records. I have even gone so far, that I have contacted both of my insurance companies & attempted to stop them from approving this inj. & save a lot of women from suffering & the companies money.

I am so upset and horrified!! My waist length hair is falling out in masses. I'm 32, got the shot less than a month ago and have had excessive hair loss and don't know what to do. Has anyone experienced the after affects, does it regrow? Hair loss is just devestating.

Yes, & 7 months after my last shot it's still not back. It was the least of the horrible side effects. I'll never take it again.

It is distressing, but the joint & muscle pain were worse as was the shortness of breath. Why were you taking this hat such a young age?

I had this injection just several weeks ago and immediately started noticing hair loss. I did not make the connection until I started digging and came across this post.
Has your hair loss slowed? How much have you lost because mine is now very thin after a few weeks. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do for the hair loss besides steroids as I can't use them due to glaucoma. I am starting Rogaine today!

A really interesting thing happened with my hair loss I think is important to share. First and foremost, the hair fall and shedding has basically stopped! I had posted back in April and it continued to get worse, to the point where I couldn't shampoo bc I would end up crying looking at my hands covered in hair. It consumed nearly all waking hours. My thick, long hair had become disgusting and my fear of baldness was a living nightmare. I was SURE it was the prolia; although many people did not have my experience.

Now to rewind, my acceptance of osteoporosis was a hard pill to swallow- I am an active 32 year old, was a runner, and had been sidelined horribly by a misdiagnosed spinal fracture that doctors thought was sciatica. Months of that torment, than came the decisions of medication- tried fosmax and it made me sick, another mental and physical torment I had a horrific time grappling with. Now some six-seven months later my hair is coming out in clumps and I'm beside myself with the fear of being bald and losing my "identity" of the girl with the waist length thick curly hair. BEAR WITH ME HERE.... Went to my doctors, all my blood work is okay and finally my dermatologist calmly and reassuring presents this common hair loss ailment to me that he has diagnosed me with: telogen effluvium. He helps me to understand that several months after you experience a trauma (emotional, physical, etc) it can shock your system and in doing so it actually causes a majority of your hair in the growing phase to go into the resting phase and SHED AT ONE TIME. The only thing to stop it is to remove the stressor and mine previously was the injury and the diagnosis of osteoporosis but now it was the horrid fear of baldness... Once I whole heartedly came to terms with the fact that I was NOT going to go bald and it was a bodily reaction, my hair literally STOPPED shedding. It was mind numbingly incredible. Sorry for the length of this post but I thought it so important to share my experience. It does get better and the hair is growing back.

I have had two doses of prolix. I have lost almost half of my hair. I am only 47 and I am so upset. Will this ever be reversed if I no longer take the injections?

I was given an injection of Prolia in June, 2016 and was told of no side effects other than the ones listed which did not include hair loss. A week later I began losing my hair and checked with my doctor. I was told that this may be a side effect of something else since he was not aware of anyone of his patients on Prolia to have hair loss. Everything else is within normal range and my hair is 50% gone and I had very thick hair. I now have several bald spots and ver thin hair to the point that I may need to wear a wig as my hair is still falling out. I have had recent blood work and there are no indications that the hair loss is caused by anything other than the Prolia injection. I will not take another injection.

Please see a dermatologist and see my prior post, research telogen effluvium. There's no research that shows prolia causes hair loss. The hair loss stops once this is addressed. It's a physiological bodily response the body has in response to stressors and the more we stress about hair falling out the worse it gets. It stops falling out and the hair grows back, I promise! Please email me {edited for privacy} I will talk more in depth about my experience with this.

Yes, my hair came back in, but in the meantime be very careful washing your hair now and don't tug on the roots when you wash. I also washed only twice a week gently until it came back in. I have not taken another injection but have stayed on the Vit D and Calcium regularly.Good luck!

Hi all~Pood here. One year and 3 months post Prolia and my hair is just barely starting to get better. I cannot have any Pred. as it is what caused my osteoporosis in the first place. Back is getting better and I still take magnesium (500 mg) every night at bedtime to keep the muscle cramps away. Prolia binds to RANKL and that L is a very, very important letter as it means our immune system. With a good half of our immune system deleted we get everything no matter how much we clean because germs and viruses are in the air. I like to take 2400 mg of calcium but my Dr. said I was doing it wrong and wasting it. I need to have acid in the stomach for the calcium to work so a glass of lemonade, a piece of cheese, just anything so I can get all 4 tablets working well. My appetite post Prolia is not overly wonderful. It will end, I promise, but it takes a lot of time to get this poison our of our bodies. It may go poof in 6 months but it's side effects sure do not. Stay well~Pood
