Prestique Question With Depression And Pain

I have had thyroid cancer for the following 12 years with 10 surgeries and all the I131 a person is allowed to have administered. Just recently, in July, I had a severe back reconsruct with fusion and all nerves to my legs had been so damamged by the severity at which they were pinched from my spine let to totally different problems. I was told to try prestique not only to benefit from the depression that I do have but also it said it helps with the pain throughout your body. Has anyone heard this before.. I have heard Lexapro helping fibermalgia patiets...any thought???

Pristiq contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, which is an SNRI antidepressant and yes, this class of medications has been shown to help with some forms of nerve pain.

On top of that, it has also been shown that depression contributes to pain and the severity of it. So, there are actually 2 ways that such a medication may help someone in your situation.

The only way to see if it helps you, however, is to actually try it and see what it effect it has.

It may cause side effects, such as nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and weight changes.

I had been on Cymbalta for years. It helped not only with depression but also with nerve pain and pain from arthritis. My doctor took me off of Cymbalta citing problems with balance and put me on Prestique. I haven't had any side effects ie: nausea, but over time all my pain and some depression has returned. I am planning to return to my doctor to discuss this.
