Prepopik Laxative (Page 9)
UpdatedHas anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?
Had to buy for my mother. Her insurance didn't cover it and it was $145.
Medicare would not cover and the Co pay with my B CBS was 107. But my pharmacy Lake Wylie Pharmacy sells it for 94. And it is well worth it!
That is outrageous. I got it when it first came out and I paid $95. You buy the same thing in Canada for less than $20. It has been available there for years and doesn't require a prescription. Offhand I don't remember the name. There is also a coupon on their website. To me it was worth it as I couldn't handle the other stuff.
I didn't mind paying the $100 either because Ive had the other stuff and lower volume to me was soooooooo much better. I drank s lot of water day of though too. :)
I was given a coupon by my Dr. Office, when I went to pick up the prescription, Riteaid told me I didn't even need the coupon because there was no co-pay with my insurance, Sure do hope it tastes like orange soda, I have to start in less than 3 hours
You have to drink five 8oz glasses of liquid after the first dose and three after the second dose.
But you don't have to drink them fast. You can drink them at your own pace over the next hours unlike some of preps where you have to drink something every 15 minutes. That is one reason it is easier.
I am starting my prep this Monday. Very nervous. I gag on all of them and usually cannot do all the murilax prep always worry I won't be cleaned out but so far I usually am. Wish me luck with this. I plan on having dulcolax pills and murilax on hand in case of emergency.
I took my first dose at 7 pm and was able to lie down and rest by 2 am. I took my second dose at 4 am. Started going again 10 minutes later. Stayed in the bathroom until 8 am. Had to get dressed for the procedure. Almost didn't make it. Went when I got there, and then 5 more times before the colonoscopy. In recovery, I went again. After that it was just gas. Got home, ate a little food and it started up again full-blown-can-hardly-make-it-to-the-john-gushes. It is now a full 11 hours after my last dose and 4 hours after the colonoscopy. Please tell me that I don't have another day of this to look forward to. On the up side, it was easy to take and didn't cause any cramping. The couple of hours I was able to lie down in bed, I could actually feel the peristaltic motion. Felt like a little critter in there wiggling around. Now that is a first. My after insurance cost was $40. There are coupons on line.
Never heard of that happening. It should all have been almost clear liquid before you had procedure. Anything left the doctor sucks out and afterwards they are supposed to suck out the gas they blow in. Make sure you drink something with electrolytes like Gatorade to get yourself back in balance as I am sure you feel weak.
I paid $75. although google it and I believe there is a coupon. My gastroenterologist gave it to me the second time. It's so easy and quick.
The urge to go ended exactly 24 hours after my first dose. Left me weak and dizzy. Now after 3 good full meals and lots of fluids I am back to myself. Even after all that, I would still recommend it for it was easy to drink and was actually rather tasty. My husband is scheduled for his colonoscopy in 2 weeks. He's considering getting some adult diapers. After witnessing my experience, he figures it would be better to be safe than sorry.
It didn't work for me. I did everything right and it didn't start working until 3 am when I got to the hospital i used enemas and still was only 3/4 clean
Did you avoid all fiber for 4 days prior to the procedure? No fruit, vegetables, nuts, just carbs. Day before only clear liquids. When I said I had to go, it was mostly liquid.
I used this for the first time last night. Horrible. This is my 4th colonscooy prep and i will be going back to the old, drink more option. That worked fast for me, was done in a few hours and had a good night's sleep. I took my first dose of this at 6pm last night, started going around 7, was up all night and was still going at 6am this morning. Was due for second dose at 7 and waiting to head if i should take it. Afraid i wont make it to the dr if i take more. Newer, better tasting, less to drink-not always better.
someone said costs about 90.00 at costco....sure not 90.00 in California. I went to costco today to pick up my prescription of prepopik and the clerk said insurance would not cover so my cost would be 136.00, I about dropped......I just couldn't imagine going back to that old stuff i used 5 yrs ago and I had heard good things on this Prepopik, BUT i was not gonna pay 136.00, I had a coupon for 10.00 off but they wouldn't take that because I was on medicare, well, nothing to do but to go back to my doctor and see if i could get a different prescription for something less than 100.00 (i have been reading what they pay in Canada and it's a loss less than 100.00, one person said 20.00 plus 18.00 shipping to USA. I was going to go that route as I have used canadian pharmacies in the past. Well anyway I went in to see my doctor and explained to the girl I was barely getting more than 137.00 from social security every month and couldn't afford this amount, another girl came out of her office and said sorry i couldn't help but overheard your conversation, maybe I have a sample in the cabinet, thank heavens she did.....she gave me the same and said Happy birthday. I hugged her and told her over and over thank you thank you. Went home a happy camper. I read somewhere that someone had paid over 200.00 for theirs, I cannot imagine these pharmacy's making that much profit. So if your doctor prescribes this Prepopik cry "poor" and just maybe you'll get a free sample.
I am a 50 year old man. About -210 lbs. I drank the first glass an hour ago. Nothing yet. This is my first time at the rodeo and I am a bit nervous. Have a big pitcher of decaf iced tea
Just waiting .....
I am going for another colon test. I do not remember the name of the last one, I drank. Yuck.. the picture shows a person drinking it, like someone would drink some cool tea. I looked up on the computer how to wash it down. Now, I am going to try Prepoik? Even it cost more, so what! I want to be comfortable. Only once, when I had to use go lightly, the stuff did not work until the morning. I was like where the hell did it go?
Buy peppermint lifesavers and suck on it for a minute or so until your mouth is kinda numb. Drink half. Suck on the lifesaver for another few seconds and drink the rest. I did that for my last 2 colonoscopies. For the first one I had to drink the huge amount so I sucked on lots of lifesavers! My experience with prepopik was horrible. Went nonstop for 17 hours, right thru the night. Never had that happen before. I guess everyone's system reacts differently. Good luck.
Can anyone suggest the time for the 1st and 2nd dose.
My colonoscopy is scheduled for 10:00 am.... The nurse told me to take first dose at 6:pm the night before and the second dose at 2:00 am....Am I going to be able to sleep at all? Would appreciate suggestions.
Thanks
