I am surprised a doctor would prescribe something that might make people throw up as that could really compromise the whole purpose of a cleanse. It is the first it has been mentioned on this thread. The doctors around here use Suprep and I think Kaiser uses Movieprep. I am not scheduled for 4 more years and it will depend on my overall health as I will be 82 and probably won't care

It's just a side effect. I guess tolerance varies.

Hi I'm about to embark on this colonoscopy journey and, you guessed it, I'm scared! My doctor prescribed Prepopik and from reading the majority of the reviews posted here, it seems this one is the least traumatic so I'm very thankful for that. My worry is this: On the day of the colonoscopy I have to be there by 7:30 am. My prep starts at 5pm (start with the 5 ounces of Prepopik and then five more 8 oz of liquids every 30 minutes after that) and then I do another prep at 2:30 am with taking another 5 oz of Prepopik and then three 8 oz of liquids every 30 minutes after that. So that puts me drinking the last liquid at 4:00 am....I live about 45 minutes away from the surgery center for the colonoscopy. Has anyone had bad experiences with just trying to hold it while riding to the surgiery center? This scares me more than anything else about the entire process. How can I ensure that I make it without having to go all of a sudden?

I tried PREPOPIK and it was really great. The instructions say to drink at a pace comfortable for you, so I'd make sure to follow the instructions on the box. For split-dose, drink the second packet approximately 5 hours before the colonoscopy followed by plenty of clear liquids up until 2 hours before the time of the colonoscopy. No problem there.

I think I would call the doctors office about starting it earlier. There is no reason why you couldn't do that under the circumstances. Everyone's case is a little different. I would want to be done "going" by 2am just to make sure. It works a little slower than some of the others so you want to know you are clear.

My 3rd colonoscopy is scheduled for 1 pm tomorrow and this is my first time using Prepopik and I'm a little worried. I took my first dose at 4 pm and it is now 10:30 pm and nothing so far. I followed the directions and drank the 5 glasses of water plus. I am scheduled to do the second dose at 6 am so I am going to wait it out and hope for the best. I paid a $60 copay so I sure hope it works. Reading some of the post here has been helpful.

I would take it earlier maybe 3am. I don't know when your procedure is but if it in the late AM I would take it sooner. Once you are empty you are empty

I followed my split dose prepopik prep to the T. I also was on a low-residue diet the week before....ate lightly starting two days before....the prep was absolutely no problem. Just came back from my colonscopy procedure...it was successful, but I was told it wasn't completely clean. The nurse told me I could eat immediately, but don't go crazy. Had some powerful gas pains, but recovered. After eating my ice cream 'reward', I ran right back into the bathroom and eliminated like a cannon. My question: how long does prepopik remain active for? My last dose was early this morning at 5am...it is now 3pm. Is it the prepopik still working in my body?

It should be out of your system I don't understand why you would have hade much in you after the procedure. They have to suck out anything that wasn't cleaned out otherwise they can't do a proper procedure as they have to be able to see everywhere. I think I would ask my gastro the same question.

I just paid $100 for it. Would have been $135 had I not have had a coupon. Much too expensive for me.

That is the most I have heard anyone pay for it. I paid $95 when it first came out but it was worth every cent knowing what the others were like.

My husband and I just used this prep and we were very satisfied. Most of the cost was covered under our insurance and I also used a coupon for a 20% discount for up to $10 in savings. Followed the directions and We drank one glass at 6pm and the other at 4:30am the morning of the procedure. Was ok tasting with a citrus flavor. The funny thing is it took about 5 hours to hit me (I weigh 112 lbs) and it took 90minutes to hit my husband (250lbs). Went to the toilet 4-5 times with each glass. Per our doctor we were cleaned out. I am allergic to Sulfa and had no problem with this medication. This was our first colonoscopy. I would highly recommend this product .

Hi, I took this last night for my first colonoscopy. I have nothing to compare it to, but I would take it again- I couldnt believe how easy and relatively gentle it was. I took the first dose at 1PM, and within a half hour I had some slight gas and my first bowel movement. Over the next 5 hours, I probably went four or five times. There was no cramping, pain or other side effects (although I did have a very slight headache). I was nervous because I am very sensitive to medicine (I'm a 119 lb 30 year old female). Took the second dose at 6, was running clear at this time and probably went five or six quick times by 9 PM, again without cramps. At no point was I on the toilet for longer than 1 minute.

I did go an additional few times between 9pm and midnight, and once again at 6 am, 6:30 and twice when I got to the hospital, but the dr said I was perfectly clear. This worked wonderful as I was so scared about side effects. It was $50 with my insurance, but in my opinion well worth it. It was not half as bad as I feared it would be!

I had this colonoscopy prep for the first time a few months ago and what a difference. My doctor had coupons that paid for the kit in full. Not all pharmacies accept the coupons, so if you get a coupon, call around and find one that does. Sometimes they have to order the kits in stock, so get your prescription to the pharmacy a few days before your procedure.

I just used this prep, despite my doctor's order for an onerous Miralax/Ducalex/enema combo. I said no way and did this instead. Two small glasses of a very tart lemonade type drink, spaced by 6 hours. No cramps, no mad scrambles to the bathroom. Doc said the prep worked great and is considering switching his protocol.

This is my second colonscopy and I can say that the prep was horrible the first time it was like drinking salty cold water with a hint of lemon lime half through the gallon I thought I would float away. This prepopik was amazing! Reminded me of a grapefruit flavored sparkling water! Took it at 7pm and it kicked in at 9:30. My next dose is at 6am hopefully it does the job for my 1:15pm procedure. I'd rather do this than die of cancer. No complaints here!

I just used it today for my first colonoscopy at 9:30 am. I am a 23 year old female and was incredibly nervous about the prep because laxatives usually make me very sick. However, this was a CAKE WALK! I got slightly nauseous with the second dose but I'm pretty sure that has more to do with not eating than it does with the prep. Kinda felt like being a bit car sick but it went away quickly. I never had cramps or a headache at all. The prep drink itself is only 5oz and although it's very strange that the mix makes the water almost hot, the taste was not bad. As far as cost... I have heard that it's anywhere from $85 to $155 but my doctor just handed me a sample one from his office and it was free! However, after hearing the horror stories about drinking a gallon of other preps, I would gladly pay for this one if I needed to.

Thank you all so very much for your comments and suggestions. I will be using Prepopik next month. My husband chose the "other" option this past week and had to drink 144 oz. While the taste wasn't terrible, he said he wished he had chosen the Prepopik and confirmed that I would never have been able to drink so much, no matter how much time is allowed to finish it. Our health insurance company paid for the most of the cost of both options but my husband's option cost $10 out of pocket and the Prepopik was $40. My doctor gave me a coupon to use so the final cost was $32 at my local pharmacy. Sounds like it's going to be worth every penny of the extra cost. Thanks again, all who commented, for helping to ease my nerves! P.S. This is my second colonoscopy, but ten years ago you purchased the prep stuff over the counter and mixed it with whatever you wanted. I used lemonade which masked the taste completely and it was super easy to get down. Hoping Prepopik will be the same!
