Has anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?

My dr advised, reduce food intake week before, no fiber 2 days before. Dulcolax the night before left me cramps. Also took RX anti nausea Zofran before each split dose. I also like the fact you can choose your clear liquids after each dose, I opted for veggie broth, tea & apple juice. Started working less than an hour after I began. Biggest issue? A very sore butt...I'd totally advise using Vaseline or Desitin in your anal area just prior to the first dose. I felt like the outcome smells a lot like ammonia, all-in-all, better than drinking the gallons of gritty stuff I had to do with my first colonoscopy 3-years ago.

I have my 3rd colonoscopy in the last 12 months coming up next week right before my 3rd abdominal surgery in the last 12 months, but for the sake of simplicity I'll try to just comment on the colon prep issue.

It's got to be one of the most unpleasant medical experiences there is. I always tell first timers that the prep is much much worse than the actual test. After all, what's not to like about a Versed or Propofol induced nap right in the middle of a work day?

Over the years, I've had to use all forms of bowel prep from straight Dulcolax to Magnesium Citrate, Phospho Soda (really bad), and for the last few years Golytely (with its handy gallon jug; also pretty bad). I always thought it was funny that my insurance would fully cover the Golytely but not the Golytely flavor packets so it always tasted awful and the last few glasses always took on that dreadful, gag inducing quality that many of you are probably quite familiar with.

I just picked up my Prepopik Pak at Walgreens for $45. I thought that was expensive until I came here and saw what many others have been paying.

I'm really encouraged by most everyone's experience (except poor Nicole; Cramps and vomiting are never fun or interesting). While I'm sitting on the porcelain throne with my wet wipes, Desitin, laptop and some magazines (that will be thrown away later while being treated as hazardous medical waste), I like the idea that I can mix up the liquids as long as they're clear. I'm sure that will make the whole process easier. I had a temporary ileostomy from January to April and I was *always* dehydrated. I drank gallons of Gatorade and other electrolyte replacement drinks, but it would come out as fast as it went in. But being able to break it up for this prep with other clear liquids sounds almost like a treat. Almost.

I do have one small issue with it regarding the timing of the doses. I called my doc's office for clarification. My procedure is at 9:00 AM. The instructions from my doc say to take the 2nd dose 6 hours before the scheduled time. When I asked if that meant I should wake up at 3 to take the 2nd dose, the reply was yes. When I mentioned the different dosing options on the Prepopik website, she advised me to ignore the manufacturer's dosing regimen and pay attention to the doc's. So, while it's not a really big deal, waking up at 3 and then dealing with the aftermath seems a little inconvenient. I'll see how it goes.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. They were all very helpful. And remember, a healthy colon is a happy colon.

Felt very dehydrated at the end of the process even though I drank more liquid than suggested. Had kidney pain and pain in the liver by midnight with a very restless night. I would not recommend this product, I felt it was too extreme.

LOVED prepopik. Compared to others it was the easiest to drink. I drank at 6 pm and 2 am for my 8 am procedure and my Gastro said I was squeaky clean. I have found my new prep of choice as I have to return in 5 years!!! Thank you prepopik makers!!!!

I only paid $32 with a coupon I printed at the manufacturer's site

Do both doses the day before. I would start the first one at noon. The second at about 6 pm. It took about 6-7 hours for my first dose to kick in. After that I was done by bedtime, about 10:30 or 11:00. Keep drinking fluids all day.

I took my 1st dose at 6pm and the second at 12 am....nothing yet!!! I feel like it will be soon but I am so darn tired and hungry. I hope this is not an all nighter! Others seemed to have it work very quickly so I feel almost jealous because now I am thinking it will be all night! Did anyone else have this too?

Mine was similar but I drank a ton of liquids the day before I started prepopik. Keep drinking fluids. I think you'll be surprised. It won't be an all night thing. Good luck today

Mine first dose took about 7 hours to kick in. You need to start a lot earlier than they say.

How did your scope go? Excellent cleaning? I was surprised I was as clean as I was! I was used to drinking a gallon. Dr said I was good to go for 5 years :)

My procedure was in the afternoon so different timing but since the first dose seemed to be working slowly I added 2 Dulcolax. For anyone that thinks this taste bad or is too extreme as one poster said they have never had any of the others.

Hmmm I think Nicole must be a shill for the Golytely people :-)). After surveying all my friends who'd already had colonoscopies, I was convinced that Prepopik was the only way to go. I had actually put off my 1st colonoscopy until I was nearly 53 because I soooo dreaded everything I'd heard from the day-before-prep. Boy am I thrilled that I did, because that gave Prepopik the opportunity to be approved in the US before I did it. Despite the good things I'd heard, I was still apprehensive, not knowing what to expect. I made sure to not have anything planned the day before and the day of the colonoscopy so I could be near a bathroom at all times. I'm glad that I did that, but only because when I did need to go to the bathroom it was diarrhea at first and then eventually liquid coming out, and that would have been unpleasant for anyone in a public bathroom to smell/hear. However, after drinking the 2 measly 5-oz glasses of quite pleasant citrus tasting drink, I only needed to go to the bathroom about 7 or 8 times in total before my procedure, and they were quick and very painless. I had ample warning and it wasn't like my bowels were suddenly going to explode unless I had a toilet handy. Had I gone, for instance, to a movie that day, I would have had plenty of time to leave my seat and find a bathroom; however, as stated before, I'm glad I didn't have to subject others to that smell/sound. For me it would have been no problem at all. My doctor said to take one dose at 2 pm the day before, the other one at 8, which I did. It kicked in within an hour of taking it both times, and like I said, I just had about 4 very quick trips to the toilet after each one. I was completely done by bedtime and sailed through the night with nary a trip (except to pee). I did drink lots of liquids in addition to the 2 glasses, but those were all my choice as long as they were clear, none of that disgusting gallon of the gag-inducing horror show everyone has had to deal with until now. People, we may not be the best Generation, but we are certainly the luckiest!!!!!! Don't listen to what your doctor says if they tell you to get up at 3 a.m. to take this, it is sooooo not necessary. Just do the 2 doses about 6 hours apart starting in the afternoon of the day before and you will be beyond good to go. Thankfully my colonoscopy was a complete easy breeze, and although I now don't have to have another for 10 years, I absolutely wouldn't even mind having one every year, now that Prepopik has become the best thing since sliced bread. Well, actually Propofol is, especially for someone like me who suffers from insomnia. I totally get Michael Jackson!! Can I get a prescription?!

The prepopik (I can't believe they paid a bunch of money to someone and that was the name they came up with) went down easy. Only 5 ounces and it barely has any taste or weird consistency to it.It's been about 2 hours since the first dose and I'm still waiting for it to "work".

I can't remember the name of the stuff I had to use last time. I couldn't hold it down - and there was about a gallon of it! I ended up not getting cleaned out well.

It appears sthe manufacturer is private and not a publicly traded company.

I agree with the name thing. It doesn't seem to any relevance to the product. I used it a year ago and my doctor still continues to prescribe Suprep which costs about the same. He had never heard of it when I asked him to write a prescription for it. I had to spell it out for him but he said I was cleaned out and I gave it a great review. I did add the Dulcolax because it didn't seem to work as fast as I thought it should.

Ok. 2-1/2 hours and then - like a cannon. And it was over in a few minutes.

Due to family history and diverticulosis and one bout with diverticulitis, I have a colonoscopy every 3 years. I always dread it to the nth degree as the first 4 times it was so invasive, blew up my hemorrhoids and virtually I would get so sore I usually ended up crying and sitting in a warm sitz bath after the ordeal was over. This time, Prepopik was prescribed so I armed myself with prep H suppositories to try to keep from being sore...I started at 230pm with the first packet dissolved in 5 oz water, followed by 40 oz of water. I am so amazed as this stuff thus far has not made me the least bit sore or uncomfortable. I take my 2nd dose at 8p, then the 24 oz water. I've drank coffee and tea intermittently. I paid $75 for the RX and if I am not sore at the end (no pun intended) it is worth every dime. Bathroom visits have been about every 45 minutes...I am beyond appreciative of this product.

Last week I was supposed to have my first colonoscopy. I had a bad reaction to the prep meds (glycolax).. which tasted horrible and I threw it all up. They had to reschedule the appointment to get me different prep medications. I can't believe they wouldn't prescribe me Prepopik from the start. More pricey sure.. but even if it weren't for the bad reaction.. avoiding drinking a whole gallon of glycol was worth the extra hours of work to pay for it.. I was surprised at how much easier this one was to take.

Going through the prep now! I did the 1st packet at 4pm and it took 37 minutes to take hold! No painful cramping. It cost 55.00 at Walgreens and the Dr. gave me a 20% off coupon. It showed that the full retail price is 145.00.
