Do at the times they told you!!!! Continue to drink fluids too. It seems bad but it's a fast process. You'll be able to go to the bathroom. I didn't have the suddenly urgency. I made it every time. You have to be fluid free for a few hours prior to surgery so that's why the 2 am dose. Closer to procedure-better. Good luck

Hi, mine was scheduled for around the same time. I took my first at 6PM the night before and the Second around 4AM the day of. This way you have 5 hours to drink the three 8 oz. of liquids for the second dose, which I would drink sooner rather wait until the 5th hour.

Trouble with these predetermined times is that everyone is so different in how they process the drug. I took the first dose at 4:20 yesterday afternoon and was running to the bathroom every 45 minutes or so until 2 a.m. Based on that experience, I took the second dose at 4 a.m. this morning - my doctor had given me some flexibility as to the timing of that second dose. I was again on the run every 1/2 hour or so until 11:30; things seemed to quit at that point. If I would have followed the "closer to procedure" guideline, I might not have made it to the clinic (which is one hour away) without an "accident" - my appointment was at 2:30 today. The doctor said I was clean - and no polyphs! I don't have to go back for 10 years.

I have my colonoscopy in two days, so I start my prepopik tomorrow. This is a new GI and I worked for one so I know the dreaded Co-Lyte. My 2 choices were lemon or cranberry, I hate citrus drinks but I hate lemon more. This prep is new to me and I can tolerate 5 oz of nasty versus the gallon. What I really wanted to know was the estimated bathroom time which I read what some of you posted. My procedure is at 8 am and I really was hoping I wouldn't spend the night on the toilet. Good news I'm on clear liquids the entire day tomorrow. The bad part is I've been constipated which will add to my bathroom time. I just had a colonoscopy 7 months ago but the new GI wants to start from scratch so I get an EGD too! Thank you for your insight. I'll let you know what I think of the prep.

I had my colonoscopy this am at 10:00. I used the Prepopik.....hey this stuff is fantastic, 99% better than what i used before. With the prepopik, there is two simple steps. Take # 1 small pack and add 5 oz of water, stir for about 3 minutes then drink, and for the next 5 hours all you have to do is drink 5-8z glasses of water...# 2 After about 8 hours later you do the same thing, in the interim you are sitting on the toilet, but not for long. My procedure was at 10 am, and I was home by 11:30. This mixture is no way compared to the old stuff that a person had to drink gallons and gallons. I took # 1 pack at 6:00pm the day before and 3 am in the am. I wasn't fond of the 3:00 am time, but this is a one time thing every 5 years, no biggie i just sat my alarm.

If you take the medication at the times they tell you to do it, then you may wind up having an "accident" while driving to the clinic. Do the doctors really want you to need an adult diaper? And - some people don't even feel the effects of the second dose for 4-5 hours after taking it, so the instruction to take the stuff 4 hours prior to the procedure may not work. The nurse told me that for those people - for whom the second dose doesn't work quickly enough - they will need to get their colonoscopy redone. In other words, they will have gone through the diet/liquids/medication and then have to repeat the process because their system didn't work quickly enough.

I liked Prepopik as much as it is possible to like a prep. But I think there needs to be a better method than asking people to take the stuff so close to the procedure time. Perhaps a better camera that would allow docs to see through the slime that must build up between the end of the elimination process and the actual procedure? That would allow for some extra time so that those of us who take longer to finish in the bathroom would not be stressed by the need to finish in time.

The whole elimination process took me from 4:20 pm on Thursday afternoon to 11:30 Friday morning. I had only about a 2 hour break early Friday morning, between the end of dose 1 elimination and the start of dose 2. My appointment was 2:30 Friday afternoon. Starting the second dose at 10:30 am on Friday would not have worked for me...and yes, I did a very s"

I am not looking forward to my second exam in 10 years because of the uncertainty of wondering if I will finish in time. Maybe the process will have changed by then.

I didn't mention that the doctor gave me the prep and since my exam is at 8 am tomorrow morning I start my prep at 4 pm then the second dose at 10 pm. Any prep will be inconvenient but I'd much prefer the preopik than an oily gallon of water and a distended belly. With the old prep I started at 4 pm, finished at 5:30 pm and was still going to the bathroom at 2 am. So by comparison I'd rather have it split up and feel comfortable. They are able to flush debris out of the way during the colonoscopy so if there is residue in the colon it can be taken care of.

I tried magnesium citrate the first time many years ago and it worked fine. Then, 8 years ago, it was MoviPrep which was good. It's been 3 hours since I took the first Propopik and so far, nothing is happening. Am to take second dose at 6 a.m. for a noontime colonscopy/endoscopy. I worry that I have had no response so far - because the previous two methods had started working right away. Also found out from internet that as of last month (April, 2015), they are making it in China so now I'm thinking, "Maybe they forgot the ingredients!" I'll be very unhappy if I don't get any response to the second dose. Thanks for all your posts. They are all helpful.

Oh it will work! It took over an hour to finally kick in. I liked the prepopik because I only had to have the nasty taste for 5 oz. Brushed my teeth, took time drinking that was fine. It's just really slow working. I had to do both packs yesterday. I started at 4 pm and by 10 pm, my 2nd dose I really had just started going to the bathroom. I went to bed at 3 am and woke at 6 am to get ready for my procedures for 8 am. Honestly I rather the gallon. Once you start going you just sit there. By the time I was finished with prepopik my rectum was bleeding and raw. Bleeding onto my underwear. It was because there is so much stopping and starting of the bowel movements. Luckily colonoscopy was normal, next one in 10 years. I did have an EGD and had multiple bleeding ulcers, clamps applied and done. My friend is my doctor's nurse and she said my experience was an exception to the rule. That's about my luck. If I have to do it before the 10 years I'd take Go-Lyte anyday. Give me the gallon, glass, cell phone and I'll be finished AND get a good night's sleep.

So sorry Carol you had a rough experience. Someone had written in giving advice before I had mine done, and the advice was each time you have your bowel movement wipe with one of those soft huggies or something like it and put a dab of vasoline on your rectum, makes all the difference in the world, and i took that advice seriously, as the first time i had mine done i was so raw, and i bled too. Someone else had also written in to curb your eating habits two days before not one, and i did that too. I had a good experience with this Prepopik, and i'm not looking forward to the next one, but it sure will be better thanks to all the advice i read here.

Yes, Carol and all, it finally did work. Took 4 hours before I started to go to bathroom, using the Prepopik. Went to bed at 10 and woke up at 1 a.m. and spent the rest of the night on the toilet. Took second dose at 6:30 a.m. and more bathroom runs. Doctor was running late so didn't have colonoscopy/endoscopy until about 1 p.m. I was so very weak and exhausted, I told the nurse to please add electrolytes and sugar and an anxiety drug like Xanax to my IV as I waited for the procedures. The anesthetic called propofol is wonderful. It took me 4 days afterwards to finally recover my strength and finally go to the bathroom again and return to my usual schedule of working out daily, etc. There were some biopsies taken; I am awaiting the results of inflamed areas in the tummy and my beloved hiatal hernia which may be growing and that's what gives people GERD (reflux). Not fun to be in your seventies. I am grateful but it's not always fun physically.! Thanks for all your posts.

WORDS OF ADVICE & EXPERIENCE: I am a 50 YO Female just had my 1st colonoscopy. Thank you for all of These postings. Some helpful hints others not so much. Here is my experience, I used Magnesium of Citrate 2 days before prep and day of prep Prepopik. KEY: HYDRATE 7 DAYS BEFORE! DURING PREP PHASE AND AFTER TAKING PREP. YOU MUST HYDRATE BEFORE! DURING! & AFTER!

1. Seven days before Eat a Low Residue Diet.....chicken no skin, potatoes, salmon, saltine crackers, and begin to really hydrate with Gatorade and propel at least 2qrts/day scattered throughout day. Intersperse with 8oz glass of water. I also used muscle milk or chocolate ensure in the morning.

2. Get your provisions together: buy wipes with aloe, A & D Ointment you will NEED them! Get lots of Gatorade NO red or blue. Orange, lemon lime, and they make a clear one too.

3. If you have anxiety like me get your dr. to give you a med for the night before & day of colonoscopy.

4. Two days before colonoscopy eat very very lite....hydrate well! Before 5 you should have 40 - 64 ounces of Gatorade like drinks drank throughout day.Take citrate of MG about 5pm-ish day before the Real Prep. It say take 10 oz I took only 7 & still worked well. You can put it in a Clear drink of choice and drink it it steps. 5pm drink, 5:20 drink rest. Then Slowly drink water 8oz. Wait 30 min, drink next Gatorade 8oz. Wait 20 min then drink 8oz your choice but Not Soda will bloat you, This took me 2.5 hrs to kick in and work. No side effects. Stay close to b room with all supplies. A & D ointment apply before u go and after. Use allow flushable wipes. Make sure to bring your cellphone and Gatorade in bathroom. I had no Side Effects. My anxiety low but was tired. Many trips to b room!

Day of prep: Drank 1 reg. Ensure bottle and 1soft boiled egg. Then lots of Gatorade and propel and white grape juice. Night before I made hello jello and apricot jello. Perfect. Prepopik is fizzy like sprite you have to drink fast. I stopped in middle caught my breath and finished it. Works for me within 1 hour. I started at 2:40pm. No side effects at all smooth ride. Then 2nd dose 9:50. No side effects as long as you are prepared to hydrate yourself in addition to the quantity of liquid with the prep. I was fine. No nausea, no headaches. My dr. Says I was clean ....spic and span clean. No cramping. Prepopik was excellent. No fear. Once you do mg of citrate Day before prep it gets things going then Prepopik is similar. Take your Meds early and on time within 3 hours of taking any prep to work and remain in your body. Planning & strategy are Key. No polyps....am good for 10yrs! Yay! Thank u to all before me that posted I wanted to give back and pay it forward. Don't be afraid........if I can do this anyone can!

I used Prepopik last night and early this morning for my first scope. I ate lightly the day before liquid diet and made sure to keep hydrated. I mixed the first dose with very cold water and drank with a straw, then drank the prescribed clear liquids after. It started working about an hour later. I had no nausea, no vomiting, and little cramping. I was in bed by 10:30, although I did awaken several times to go again. At 6:30am I took the second dose. By the time I arrived for my procedure, I had the cleanest colon in town. Thankfully, a smooth procedure with no cancer and no polyps. I should add that I took a Cologuard diagnostic that came back positive and I'm at the age to start evaluations, so my doctor scheduled the colonoscopy. Cologuard can produce many inaccurate results so if you want to be sure, get the scope.

ONCE YOU DRINK IT HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO START WORKING?

It depends. My husband and I drank it together and he is 250 lbs and it started working within 90 minutes. I weigh 112 lbs and it took about 5 hours to work on me.

Pending if you hydrated well and started a low residue diet it should work with 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

On advice from a friend, I stuck with liquids only for two days prior to the exam instead of one...figured the less in...the less to come out. It turned out to be a good strategy for me. First dose around 4 PM for an 8 AM procedure. Started working within the hour. Take the advice of aloe wipes and applications of rectal ointment such ad A&D or Vaseline...frequently. That really helps, although rawness is still an issue. Toward the end some soaking in the bathtub or shower is helpful with the discomfort.
