I was looking for information and discounts on Potassium chloride SA 10 meq CR capsules and only found info on Potassium chloride ER. What is the difference? What does the SA mean? ## These are all just abbreviations that designate it as being a time released formulation, the CR stands for controlled release, SA stands for Sustained Action, and ER stands for Extended Release. There are actually many different abbreviations that are used, but they all mean the same thing. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of confusion for many doctors and patients. If you read the NIH research studies, you will see that such large doses of potassium cannot be taken in just one dose due to how harsh they are on the stomach, thus all such prescription tablets are time released. The harshness is also why...

i have some Klor-Con 8meq tablets that are 3 years old and I want to know if it is safe to take them. I am currently on this medication again, (being given with my blood pressure medicine) and I wanted to know if I can take the ones I have on hand. ## Since they are that old, there's likely been a good bit of degradation, so you probably won't get the full dose, if much at all. How did you have them stored? If it somewhere such as a bathroom medicine chest, where they were exposed to heat and moisture, that would really accelerate the degradation. Learn more Potassium details here. ## I have since gotten a new prescription because I felt they would not be as effective. They had been stored on the shelf in my linen closet. Thank you for your reply to my post, but better to be saf...

I was taking potassium cl er 20meq & im out of them so im trying to find something equivalent to that over the counter. How many 99 milligrams of potassium can I take to make one 20 meq dose? ## Juli's answer is correct: 20 mEq is approximately 1,485 mg. The conversion between mg and mEq is a bit tricky and requires some chemistry knowledge but I will note the calculations below. "A milligram, abbreviated mg, is a metric unit of mass or weight defined as one thousandth of a gram. A milliequivalent is a measure of the quantity of ions in an electrolyte fluid. One milliequivalent is one thousandth of one mole of charges and is represented by the symbol mEq. The ions of different elements vary in mass, so it is necessary to know the atomic or molecular weight of the ions and th...

Are you supposed to take a water pill (furosemide 40mg) with Pot Chlor ?? ## Hello, Earl! How are you? No, the potassium chloride can be prescribed by itself, if your potassium level has tested low. It is just a nutritional supplement and does not require a diuretic to work. Since it's very potent, its most common side effect is nausea and stomach pain. The reason it is often prescribed at the same time as a water pill/diuretic is due to the fact that many of them cause potassium loss, which can be very dangerous, so some people need to take them to keep their potassium levels up. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What is POTCHLORIDEER what is it for and what is it and are you supposed to take fluid pills with it

Con you tell me how many bananas I have to eat to get the same amount of potassium as one klor-con m20 tab? ## Hello, Frank! How are you? From what I can find, they estimate approximately 1 mEq per inch of banana, so you'd need to eat 20 inches of banana for each tablet you are supposed to take. It would likely be easier to just take the tablets, rather than eating bananas all day, every day. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the information. I was curious. That is a lot of bananas especially in light of the fact I'm not that crazy about bananas. The pill, though, is a bit hard to swallow. Again, thank you for the effort. ## A FAIRLY SMALL BANANA IS APPROX. SIX INCHES, SO 3 OR 4 BANANAS IS NOT ALL THAT MUCH. IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN THE PILL IN MY OPINION...

What is the difference in the two medicines? I have two prescriptions. One costs nothing for 90 pills; the other one costs $13.37 for 30 pills. Can I take the lower priced medicine? Both potassium cl er and potassium cl tb are 20 meq each. ## Yes, unless your doctor, or pharmacist says otherwise, you can take either or. However, the FDA, does warn that it can cause some nausea due to its potency, so it should be taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I just received my mail order pharmacy prescription for potassium cl sr mc tb 20meq (and furosemide tab 20mg). 2 of the pot chlor pills are broken. Is this safe or do i need to order 2 more pills? This same thing happened with my last shipment and i wonder if they'll believe me that it happened again. Is it safe to ...

I have a clear capsule with Ethex and 001 on it. Can you tell me what this is and what it is used for? Thank you. ## The pill in description is Potassium Chloride SR 10 MEQ (NDC 58177-001). Potassium chloride has many uses such as being a sodium-free substitute for table salt (sodium chloride). Research I have gathered states that this pill works by providing a direct replacement of potassium in the body. Inactive Ingredients: - Calcium Stearate - Gelatin - Isopropyl Alcohol - Pharmaceutical Glaze - Povidone - Sugar Spheres - Talc Potassium chloride is in the class of drugs called potassium supplements that are used to prevent hypokalaemia. NOTE: Orally, KCl is toxic in excess. ## After reading all of the questions and replies, I am still mildly confused as to the difference if any in ...

How much mEq would equal 5 mg of potassium? There was a problem with my 12 year old's rx from the dr. He is on it to prevent kidney stones and cant pick it up till like June. I was wondering until then what do i do with the mEq over the counter? ## 5mgs of Potassium converts to 0.128 mEq according to this converter. What was the problem with the Rx that is delaying your being able to pick it up? That doesn't make sense, if there are issues, they should be able to contact his doctor for a solution.

I just started this new drug 5 days ago and will try and let everyone know how I do along the way. I have stage 3 ckd with my number of potassium at 5.5. I had been taking Kiotex and it wasn't solving my problem, so my doctor decided to put me on this. Seeing that I am the first one on this forum bothers me....but hoping others will start to respond and we can track each other's progress with this new drug. ## How are you doing on the Patiromer? This medication is used to treat high blood potassium, since that can be just as dangerous as it being too low. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including constipation, abdominal pain, low blood magnesium, and nausea.

I found one of these round bright yellow coated pills. It's a bit smaller than a dime. Imprint 903, no mistaking it for any other numbers. No imprint on the other side. Kind of thick. And is there any reason to believe that it may still contain Potassium Chloride? What is the difference between Klor-Con M10 and MEQ 8? Can anyone tell me how many mgs are in the KlorCon M10 ER tablet? I am trying to compare it to the 1500 mg in a Pot Chlor ER tablet 20meq. ## The Klor-Con M10 ER is listed as being equivalent to 750mgs, or 10meqs, so it's half the dosage of the one you are comparing it to. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is there another potassium medication like "Klor con m10 er meq" that doesn't have polyethylene glycol in it?

Can I substitute otc potassium gluconate 595mg tabs for the k-dur 20meq cr tabs? If so, how many otc pills would I take to get the same effect? ## Hello, Rick! How are you? The over the counter items cannot equal the prescription medications, you'd have to take far too many of them and would end up spending more than the prescription costs. It would be best to pick up the prescription as given by your doctor. The FDA lists the most typical side effect of this medication as being nausea, so it is best to take it with food.
