Plaquenil 400mg Once Daily

I've tried Celebrex and Methotrexate for an autoimmune disorder "suggestive" of Lupus to no avail. I spent 1 1/2 years in constant pain before I knew why every joint (shoulder, elbow, knee, wrist, fingers, ankles, toes and back) in my body hurt, decreased blood count and daily headaches it was awful. Started on Plaquenil and within weeks the pain started to subside. I no longer have joint pain, my blood counts are normal, C3 and C4 (normal), CRP (normal). I feel great, however, I suffer from the worst gas and diarrhea daily. The sad truth is I'll take "the s***s" over that over "s***"....This is my miracle drug. Good Luck and feel better, please ask your Rheumatologist to prescribe as the DMARDS were unsuccessful, and there are no monthly or every other month lab draws...I love it..

Hello, Shay! How are you? I'm very glad that you've found a medication that works for you.

Unfortunately, sometimes it is a matter of picking the lesser of 2 evils, so to speak, as in which symptoms or side effects we can live with.

As an example, I had full congestive heart failure about 6 years ago, the medications I take for heart function and to control my blood pressure, tend to aggravate my Reynaud's, so my hands and feet get cold and go numb very easily some days, but I'd rather deal with that, than heart failure, again.

Other side effects that the FDA lists as being typical for Plaquenil may possibly including blurred vision, muscle weakness and diarrhea.

Glad to hear the plaquanil is working for you! I'm a supporter of massive opiate doses and legal marijuana to no avail in my treatment of course LOL but I also took plaquanil and know as a DMARD it prevents further hand disfigurement but forgot the horrible pain I used to have in my hands until I read your post. IMHO Gabapentin, Celebrex and all the others are pure poison! I used to hallucinate from the Gabapentin eww! The plaquanil did stop the hand and finger pain and they haven't hurt since day one of use!
