Pharmacist Refusing To Fill My Script Of Suboxone. What Do I Do??? (Page 7)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I wet to my doc 7 days early because of running out early. I took my new script to pharmacy and said, this is early so I won't be using insurance. My doc said you can call him if necessary. Well no one wanted to. They filled two per day for three days. On the third day I asked to fill the rest on insurance for the next day. I was one day early. When I called the next morning to have my daily two filled the pharmacy manager said no we won't be filling it for another 5 days. Go to the ER for your withdrawals but don't come here because I won't give it to you. Has this happened to anyone else????

Hi, my guess is they won't fill it because Suboxone is not commonly used to treat pain. Yes, some people say it does have a pain-killing effect, but it's MAIN function is to stop opiate withdawal. Maybe that's why they won't fill it? Can you go back to you doctor and get him to say it's for addiction instead? BTW, I live in AUstralia, things seem much better and easier here from what I've heard, but I'm just making a guess as to why the pharmacist is refusing to fill.

Hi Michael and dawn
I don't know what is going on with publix! But I'm also taking suboxone 8/2mlg. I take two a day and I don't have insurance either. I use Walgreens and as bad as that place gets on my nerves sometimes I can get as many or as few as I want and I pay about 9$ apiece. I usually get ten at a time every 5 days. I'm in Tennessee so prices may be a little different but publix is raping you. The only problem I have sometimes is depending on who I talk to to call in my partial refill they will either let me pick it up on the day I am to take my last dose or if the person I talk to is suffering from a God complex I may have to pick it up that morning that I'm out to take my morning dose. Either way it's been working for me for 3 years. Good luck:) Blondie:)

So Walgreens has to be the worst pharmacy!!! Filled with the worst people!! And yes that God complex seems to run rampant no matter which Walgreens I use as cvs doesn't carry the suboxone strips, I'm kinda stuck with these i****s!!!! I've been going to them for years though :( I don't have insurance and since each strip is close to 10$ each I get partial refills. Everyone up there fills them the day I run out. Called them today. Sandy the god behind the counter said I couldn't get them until tomorrow. I kindly told her they needed to get their s*** together....... There have been soooooo many problems with them over the years!!! Sandy said she was refusing to fill them at all!!!! So my questions are 1) what the hell is the law on suboxone refills?? Can I pick them up the day I run out or do I have to go pick my script up the morning I'm out for my morning dose?? 2) now that it's a partial refill remaining 23 out of 60. Where do I get these filled now that God won't fill them?? What does that look like? What do I need to do? Called Wallgreens corporate office. No help!!!!! Just took a complaint.

Are you in the US?? We have it good in Australia, if you behave, give clean u/a's, etc and dont act like a junkie, the pharmacist or dosing clinic will treat you like a normal human being. My pharmacist knows that both me and my partner work, he asks about my kids, we have a good chat, all because I turn up every month (pick up a month's supply), I never run out (I take 4 mg less than my doctor thinks I do), so I always have surplus, and I don't try to pick up early or anything like that. It's ALL about how you act, how you treat them. Sorry, but that's they way it is, it's exactly like methadone, people (including pharmacists) will have their prejudices and opinions so of course they immediately make the connection between someone on sub/methadone and drugs. It's unfortunate but that's the way it is. Before I was sent to monthly pick-ups at pharmacy, I was picking up weekly at our methadone clinic (but picking up suboxone). I would regularly see people turn up after being on drug binges for 3 or 4 days and throw tantrums etc because they wouldn't dose them, because they had been MIA for 3 or 4 days. Of course they won't dose them. Treat the system right and it will do the same to you. Here in Australia we are VERY lucky from what I have heard, I pay only $25 for a full month's supply of my sub (12mg per day), from what i have heard it's much more expensive in US? How much do you pay?? I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm really interested, being 70 years old do you find any side-effects from the suboxone? I'm 40, don't really notice any, (apart from no libido and better sleep) but I always find myself thinking about how I'll feel on it if I'm still on it in 20-30 years. (probably will!). Have a good day.

How many prescriptions at a pharmacy are NOT controlled substances? I am sick of hearing this. It is like hearing 2 am in the morning. ALL prescriptions are CONTROLLED and 2am is ALWAYS in the morning, hence the am. My pharmacy refuses to keep any suboxone on hand. They know I will be there every month, but will not accommodate me. I have had to go without and go into withdrawal for 3 days waiting for it to get there after they order it. We are considered junkies. Doctors had me on codine for 30 years, but I found out about suboxone and went the minute I found out. I have never done any drug other than prescriptions. They used to hand it out a bunch. Now I am considered a junkie. How about that? A 70 year old junkie. I found out the hard way suboxone is addicting. They never told me. Pretty sad practice, but there is nothing I can do about it.

I went to my doc 5 day early. i got my script and went to the pharmacy. the tec told me everything was good and to give them 15 minutes to fill, so i sit down and i could see them counting my subs out. so 15 minutes go by and this little girl comes up to me and says we cant fill for 6 days. i said why did the tec tell me it was all good? so all i can say is make sure you don't run out early and if you have been on them as long as i have you should try and wing your self down. I've been on them over two years. let me say withdraws from subs are a b****.

Sorry forgot to mention in my long-winded answer that I have now been on Suboxone for nearly three years. We have a great program in Australia, you just need to pick up daily from clinic for about two or three months, providing clean urines that whole time. THen they give you weekend takeaway doses, then weekly, then fortnightly and finally monthly. I see my doctor every 3 months to review my situation, give a clean urine and off I go again. Can't complain at all, we have a great medical system here.

Hi, on and off for 18 years...was actually clean at one point for nearly 8 years, then I ran into an old friend one day and I started up again. Stupidly thought I could just do it one or two days a week, I knew better and soon enough life was crap again. It was all going well for a while then my supplier went away and I found myself with a horrendous habit. I had no idea that Suboxone was as addictive as it is. I actually was clean BEFORE I started taking Suboxone. That's how I got addicted. Stupid, I know. But it was cheap, then I got sick of the chase, the waiting for people, the danger etc and joined the program and haven't looked back. Got my life back, working again, kids all have happy, stable lives. Also noticed another benefit of this medication is that I also stopped having marijuana, never drank anyway but the thought of alcohol makes me cringe, which is good considering I ended up with Hep C from my last round with the needle. It also just gives me a better outlook on life in general. How about you?

Wow, thank God for Insurance hey!! Honestly, the medical establishment in Australia obviously realised that making it as easy as possible for ex-addicts to get on the Suboxone program and stay on it is in their and the community's best interests. It's hard enough finding the $200 a day I used to need to score, imagine if you had to find that amount to get your Suboxone??? Doesn't make sense. Speaking of pharmacists though, mine is EXCELLENT, he takes me into a private room to dose me (even though I pick up monthly, he still has to dose me the day I pick up, even he says it's ridiculous)...we have a chat about my job, my kids and what's going on with him. It's all about how you present yourself, treat them, and you should have no problem. Best of luck with your life and great to hear other people's experiences, from what I have heard us Aussies definitely have it good!

I SO agree with you about the alcohol bit, keep in mind most of the pharmacists who lord it over people like us probably go home at night and drink to try and forget their miserable existence!! I have been on Suboxone for about three years now, luckily I get on well with my pharmacist now, he's a great guy, never have any problems. But I'm sure that as soon as I tried to pull a swifty, try to pick up early or something his attitude would probably change. I find that if you don't act like a junkie, you won't get treated like one, but I know it's not always the case. There is a woman who works at the pharmacy where I pick up my (monthly) dose and as soon as I say the word "suboxone", you can almost feel the chill in the air. Her whole persona changes and all of a sudden I feel like a piece of dog poo she has trodden in. Stuff her though, that's her ignorance and I only have to deal with her once a month. It will never change though, finding people who will treat you as a regular human being, just trying to get on with their life, post-addiction, is hard. They are out there, just few and far between. I'm curious, if anyone can reply would be great, what does it cost in US for say a monthly dose of suboxone??? I live in Australia, and I pay $25 for a full 28 day script of 12mg per day. I have heard it's MUCH higher in US, is that correct? Hope everyone who reads this has a great day, any day without addiction and drugs is a great day in my book!!

This is what they do most pharmacists are so miserable in their own lives they abuse the tiny little speck of power they have over people in hopes to make them miserable too. It's sad really. Kind of disgusting. This happened to me a couple times when I first got on sub. So now I make sure I never run out. And all of my stuff is in perfect order. You have to stay on top of the laws and insurance changes because if there is anything they can do to screw you they will. I think it's insane that we live in a society where alcohol is legal (prob the most dangerous drug on the planet) yet people trying to be clean off opiates and live a normal life are treated like criminals. It's really sad. And if there is a god out there all these people will be judged. All you can do is smile and look in the mirror and be glad your not that miserable pharmacist :)

I live in Australia and I recently was forced to find a new pharmacy as my old one wanted to raise my monthly suboxone price from $25 to $70. So...I contacted my clinic, they suggested a pharmacy a bit closer to home. I rang them, the head pharmacist called me back about 20 mins later. He was really nice, asked me to come in for a quick visit and now it's three months later, and I have been picking up from them, for $25 for a monthly script, no dramas at all. He always asks about my kids, my job and my life in general, treats me like a human because I ACT like one. If you turn up to a pharmacy, chucking tantrums and carrying on because they won't fill your script early (which they aren't allowed to do of course) then they will treat you like a junkie. I agree though, unfortunately there ARE pharmacists and pharmacy staff in general who don't even bother to get to know you, as soon as you utter the words "suboxone" you can almost feel the chill in the air. But you know what? That's their stupidity and ignorance, I find the best way around that is to just keep being nice, be normal and maybe they will realise that you are just a normal person trying to live their life. Give them a reason to think badly of you, and they will. I have said it before and I will say it again, it sounds like we have it SO good here in Australia, I had to pick up daily at a clinic for about three months, providing weekly urines all that time. After that three months of clean urines, they then gave me weekly supply, then fortnightly, then finally monthly supply which I pick up from the pharmacy. My life is back, I pity the poor suckers who have to trek to a clinic EVERY DAY. How are you meant to hold down a job (if you are lucky enough to have one, and I am). I know of many people who managed it for a while, but then their bosses got sick of them being late, or having to leave to go to the clinic. Good luck everyone from Down Under.

I do the same thing, I am supposed to be taking 12mg a day but I just don't need it, I find myself needing an afternoon nap about 2pm so I just take 8mg. I don't tell my doctor either, occasionally I am required to give U/A's which they test to check that I am a) not taking any other drugs and b) to check my buprenorphine levels). Couple of days prior to my appt, I just take the 12 mg so my levels are right and all is well.
