Percocet Addiction

Updated

Hello, I need some help. My husband has been in pain for some unknown nerve problems and the do for that he was seeing prescribed him Vicodin for the pain. Over time his tolerance went up and he got referred to a pain management specialist and he starte prescribing him methadone and 10 mg percocets for his pain. He has been abusing pain pills fr about 8 years now and he is up to taking 30+ percocets a day when he gets his prescription filled along with 10-15 of the methadone (80 mg pills I think?) then when he runs out, which is very quickly, he gets a lot from other people. He has a horrible problem and I don't know what to do. I want to leave him but he doesn't have a job because he lost it from taking off too much work and he doesn't have his license. I guess what I am asking is how long of him doing this will it take for something bad to happen to him, I keep telling him that this is going to kill him but he doesn't believe me. He has random stomach pains and blood in his still often but he won't go to the doctor. Sometimes he takes so much that he looks passed out or he sounds like he's having a hard time breathing. What can I do to help him if he doesn't want help?

He needs help, there is really nothing else to say on that matter. He is going to end up overdosing, possibly fatally, if he keeps up with this behavior.

One thing you could do would be to contact the doctor that's prescribing them for him and talk to them about it. They can't tell you anything about him and his medical condition, without his permission, but you can inform them of the situation.

And I understand that he's your husband and you care about him, or at least you did at one point, but you're not helping him by sticking around and basically enabling this behavior. I'm not going to tell you to leave him and I'm not going to tell you to stay, that's not my department and it's not my decision to make, I'm just telling you the truth of the matter. I'm sorry if it seems a little harsh, however, honesty sometimes is harsh.

Can you contact his doctor directly?

I am so sorry for your situation. I pray you don't have small children.
Your husband is committing RX suicide. Please contact your most trusted family doctor to arrange for a interventional detox and rehab.
If this is impossible, get out. Anyone on this chat knows you are headed for complete and utter financial and emotional destruction. Opiates when abused, kill more than the body. They kill the soul. God bless you. I will pray for you.

Please save yourself by leaving this situation. You asked for help here, but you need to ask for help from family and friends who can help you move forward in your life.Your husband is beyond any help that you can give him,but it would be a great kindness to call the dr.that writes his scrips.Remember you cant save someone else only yourself. There is another life for you and it will be tough finding it,but save yourself before its too late.
