Percocet 30mg Immediate Release?
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been taking 240 Percocet 10/325 for over 10 yrs with 60 mg MS Contin twice a day for breakthrough pain. When I'm out of the blue my doctor sends me to a pain management specialist because he says he can't write for any narcotic over 120 tabs a month. I go to this new doc who wants to inj. something in my spine in an area he calls the sweet spot, and that I have been over medicated by my other doctor but only after a MRI which I had and I went back after my scan and it turns out I don't have a sweet spot. My thecal sac is 5.4 and gets worse the lower it goes. So he sends me to a surgeon with a script for Percocet 15 mg and it's not touching my pain. I was wondering if I should request something stronger? I was at least able to function with my old med plan but I'm not certain if I should ask to have my current management plan increased since he thought I was over medicated before, I wasn't sure if they made a Percocet 30mg rapid release?

When I moved to Missouri from California I was taking 40 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours. It gave me enough relief that I could function and have a semi normal life. The Drs here told me the same thing, that my dr was over medicating me and I’ve been through hell since. After 3 years they are finally letting me take 15mg oxycodone 5 Times day. It’s so sad that those of us who have serious pain are being punished because people that dont need pain meds have abused them so our quality of life diminishes.

If your in that much pain you should have surgery, and if you have had surgery already I would recommend asking the pain doctor to put you on the pain patch at 50mcg every 2days,it will last to three day's but in your case two would be best for your pain level, and get off the oxycontin, but you can take 10-325mg for breakthrough pain

They don't make a Percocet 30mg IR, although they do make a Roxicet 30 mg IR. It has the same 30 mg of oxycodone without the acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is used as a anti-inflammatory and also a booster for the oxycodone. Buy a bottle of acetaminophen OTC and take 500 mg with each roxicet for better results!

In the state of nj, even if you break your back u can't get more than 5 days worth of pain medication. I have patients who need their medication and can't get on it. I want to know what they are doing about the illicit drug epidemic and focus on that and not people who are taking their medication to live a normal life!!!

It is not all on the cops, if you google dea busts south florida walgreens drug dispensary you'll see that big pharma distributors are selling drugs to dr. feelgoods and not keeping those in the books, it has caused wide spread shortages for real chronic pain people like myself, after you google the story of the bust, google walgreens program that they put in place to satisfy dea, it basically turns pharmacists into liars for corporate, they will tell you the delivery has not arrived, or other bullcrap along these lines in order to thin walgreens many chronic pain patients.I have been on the same med for 14 years now due to commercial farmers disposing of their hazardous waste illegally by hiring truckers to haul last growing seasons chemical covered plastic sheeting, at least in my case and 3 other drivers who were like me saturated in 2,4d aka agent orange which is legal in florida for farms that grow vegetables. We lost 1 driver at age 40. Myself ? I've lost the cartilage in every joint, all the discs in my spine, both knees finger joints and at year 10 walgreens pulled this on me, but after all those years I'd made friends throughout the pharmacy, in the case of walgreens their program is called of all the sneaky crap "The walgreens good faith policy", my pharmacist refused to use this on me only because they knew my history and that they bucked the system so they could sleep at night knowing they didn't hurt or worse kill someone who would rather take their life than try to live thru pain that a lay person can't know unless they felt it. I for one am one of those people. There is no way I could tolerate the pain for longer than a week before I would put myself out of misery, but to get around the pharmacist who refused to cooperate in the good faith crap walgreens contracted with an unknown lab in philly and replaced the prime makers of my pain medication with this watered down version that was as effective as an m & m candy piece. I was in hell, until I got a meeting with the walmart pharmacy regional supervisor.

I brought all my mri's, all 13 years of printouts showing that in those 13 years, not 1 single early refill attempt, nor any of the peripheral meds needed to sleep, help with the depression, but to this day at every months refills, I am told I'm a day early (which is bull, since I can count to 30 just as early as they can) but for the most part they have kept me able to live with the breakthrough pain by honoring the prescription, and my pain spec. Is a hard ass about helping with breakthrough, so in addition to my pain meds I have to take up to 9 advilat hour 6 of every dose, which I'm sure is not healthy for liver or kidney function, but it's that or...., so arm yourself with as much proof of your health issue, because we are not in control, the pharmacies are. When the walgreens bust went down, florida pharmacies all went into cya mode and refused to take new pain patients on, because their distribution centers were doing the same as walgreens (so I am told) and our states ag a young 30 year old women with aspirations of making a name for herself, thru out the baby with the bathwater, meaning we pain patients were on our own, and that put extreme pressure on our doctors when we had legal scripts but no one would honor them with out doctors intervening on the patients part, and even that was a case by case version as some of the pharmacists think they know more than the doctors and would not honor any scripts due to pharmacists taking it upon themselves to take peoples lives in their hands. Thankfully my paperwork is way above what most people keep, only due to my knowing my outcome if denied. So if all the sudden your pharmacy starts with the no delivery stories, start preparing yourselves for their next move... That one is to tell you to go somewhere else. Get your paperwork in order and if they pull this, get them to an attorney, because we do not have rights in the eye's of big pharmacies

It's getting so bad now in new jersey that now the cops want access to the PMP pharmacy database to check on what all Drs are prescribing!!! Enough is enough!!! Cops are going to scare the Drs. And there is no privacy patient Dr confidentiality!!! Go after the cartels!!! Why aren't they doing that?!

There are so many ways a person can help themselves with simple modalities like 20 minutes of very light activity in a pool, or find an educated massage therapist with trigger point knowledge, it can make your meds work so much better than doing nothing and allowing the pain to control you, as i once did until necessity made me search for other ways to help the meds help me

so damned true it makes me sick to think they abandon their oath, to avoid the paperwork the feds have forced upon them, and the huge numbers of drug seekers have made our lives just worse in every conceivable way .

You are so right, those that have never experienced the pain use their extremely limited knowledge to cast aspersions because they recognize the name of a drug from any number of areas, be it from a local police report, to a movie, making them experts and giving them what they believe is the right to believe all pain sufferers are drug addicts looking to scam the system. The meds i am stuck with carry a stigma because of all things it is used for is to get people off opiates, when in fact it was designed during WWII to allow injured soldiers to continue fighting without any of the side effects of traditional opioids, while covering the opioid receptors in the brain. Tell someone you are on Methadone for pain, and they run from you thinking you are an addict coming to rob them or worse, and yes there are some real winners in the pain management field, but if you have your MRIs in hand you will be treated more seriously than if you just simply try explaining your pain. These doctors have heard it all, so they first go to epidurals to see if your pain is real. I just had epidural number 14 over the 16 years the poison that caused the deterioration of bone/joints throughout my body, due to an auto accident that finished off the last healthy discs in my spine, as opposed to adding more pain pills, that will only give you temporary relief until you need more and so on, and so on and nausea; and pain specialists know this. My ADVICE IS IF YOU WANT YOUR PAIN SPECIALIST TO TAKE YOU SERIOUS, GET THOSE FILMS. THEY DON'T LIE, AND AND IF YOUR M.D. IS ANY GOOD HE/SHE WILL FOREGO THE STANDARD RESPONSE OF EPIDURALS TO THE ASKING FOR MORE MEDS (and there are some really bad p.m M.D's out there who just go through the motions). Unfortunately the war on opioids has made seeking a better pain MD put a label on us called doctor shopping. Thanks to the DEA overstepping it's knowledge we have so little recourse for the supposed 21st century knowledge base open to them, they would rather arrest and confiscate, because that is the sorry state of our government.

I can't address your particular problem but my own experience is this...ALL PHYSICIANS ARE WUSSES. Not very professional, I know. The FDA has them scared to death and getting ANY pain script is worse than pulling teeth. Even ER docs are running scared.

I haven't had surgery, had family that has and in worst condiction, ended up with more surgery due to Dr scew ups. I had a injection, which lasted over a yr, second one didn't last more then 2 weeks, then I got Medicare at 65, and I can't afford even going to my own Dr, even with my retirement insurance with it. So all I can do is pain meds, I do not take what Dr gives due to fear of addiction. So that's ok only used full amount when I broke my ankle for few days then went back to just one. The thing is we have addictives to them that miss uses them, and all drugs. So us that really need them to live a part of a normal life, are having to be scared we won't be able to get the meds we really need. I've done everything except surgery, which I can't afford or want.

It may be time for a trial of methadone, it carries none of the side effects or feeling of a high but covers the opioid receptors in the brain. This is 15 years of Deteriorating joint disease from long term chemical exposure, spinal discs 60+% gone mostly by desiccation but 6-8 bulged and protruding that are deflating as i type, joints in the hands, bilateral knee replacement, and some surgeries i don't wish to pull the trigger on until medication doesn't touch it anymore. After many years of searching with my pain specialist (and it sounds like you should try another pain M.D. there are some really good ones out there and some real bad ones...Smart.. don't get me wrong, but they've seen so many drug seekers they don't recognize real pain until they've seen your films or at least the MRI reports). They have heard it all but you can't dismiss the real deal when your films do the talking. I was on a trial of every one of the opioids, every damn one lasting close to 3 years before the trial of methadone (to my M.Ds relief), i'm out of the wheelchair from hell, using a cane and found some little things that also help, like some water therapy (more important is just float around just doing some light movement, float on my back, heck make some motor boat noises if it'll get you to enjoy it not look at it like the gym, and an occasional massage from a massage therapist who knows what a trigger point is and how to deal with it, you will be amazed what can be achieved in addition to the meds.

I won't be able to live without them (the meds), but have finally found ways to cope (most of the time), the pain will still wear you down, but you don't have to lean on the meds by themselves, even leaning against or sitting on a tennis ball at the point of the pain can release trigger points when you get the hang of it. Pardon my punctuation, the one thing they haven't found is a pill for my failing memory, thank you spell check or you couldn't even follow this message. I should add that early on in this ordeal, i returned to school and started a practice in pain control via specializing on referred pain phenomena (trigger point myotherapy) basically a massage therapist with further education that does not do anything resembling massage except the reduced level of pain and the next 4-5 days of allowing you to get out and remember there is a life outside our pain circle, i saw approx 4500 sessions per year until my own pain said enough. That was due to a smart rheumatologist buying out my practice and after 1 year had every pain specialist in town referring their toughest cases, i lasted a decade after being told by doctors that my working days in my prior career were over. Trigger points ended one career and launched a whole new world. Trust me, find some one who knows and pay attention to what they do while working on you, and you can learn how to do it at home using things like the tennis ball, even the corner of a wall. Help your meds help you, because more medications relief won't last , and your doctor will tend to help you and listen to you if your proactive, asking for a raise in your meds will only raise your doctor's suspicions, they are people too, and like i said ...they have heard it all so be prepared to prove it and the help will be there.

Julie, thanks for telling me about your surgery. I have never had surgery because of what I hear. When I was forced to go to a Pain Dr recently, the nurse brought me in to get me ready for an injection. I told her I'm not there for an injection, and she said they don't give pills. I was just there for an evualation that Comp insisted I get, and this Dr was doing a favor for my Family Dr. by seeing me, so I know, the clinics are injection happy! I did try them yrs ago at a pain clinic in NY, didn't do a thing. I'm in so much pain and have no life anymore, but they still will keep trying to take the pills away.

That really sucks to be so young and be in this awful state of agony. I get lame pain killers from my GP bless her. The so called 'Pain Doctors' only want to give you injections in your spine that are useless and mostly cause deeper pain after a couple of weeks. They'll give you at the most 2 months of pain pills here in NYC. It's surprising to me that people here are able to get stuff like morphine? Jeez.. They'd laugh at you if you asked for something that strong. The whole situation is insane and I hope you feel better my Dear. I found that doing physical therapy helped to some extent. Meds are better of course to knock out the pain. I'm concerned to keep the amount I take to a minimum in order to maintain some sort of efficacy.
Good luck to you.
