According to medlineplus.gov, Paroxetine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It treats depression and other mental illnesses by increasing the amount of serotonin, a ...

I began to taper off Paxil in late 2018/early 2019 (I was on 40mg for almost 10 years.) I went from 40mg to 0mg in not even 2months. It was a fast taper. I was fine for a few short months then BAM...all hell broke loose. It's been almost 4 years now and I have zero relief. I am so sick physically and mentally, in pain. I feel like I died in 2018. I was never the same after taking my final pill of Paxil. I feel as time goes on I'm getting sicker. I'm grieving my old life everyday and think I'll never be the same. ## What condition was being treated with the Paxil? My pharmacy has recently changed the manufacturer from whom they order generic Paroxetine. Are they ANY side effects a patient could encounter from this change? The dosage is the same. I have been experiencing bad headaches and backache since the switch (6 days). ## Yes, I get brain zaps which is what some people experience when quitting this medication. I take it faithfully & everything was fine until they started making generics & I have symptoms as if I skipped a few days of taking this medication. ## The most likely culprit is a different filler or binder that is used in the manufacturing process. See if your pharmacy will be willing to order the other manufacturer’s product especially for you. It’s not unusual for them to do this. However, be warned that there i...

My doctor has suggested changing to paroxetin. I have read a lot of reviews and majority are negative about the paroxetine. I am starting to worry. I have bad depression obsessive disorder and anxiety but with all the reveiws it seems not to be a good pill. Can you please tell me the experiences you've had while being on it? Thank you. ## Hello, Dee! How are you? One thing that you have to remember about online reviews is that the people with good experiences rarely go hunting sites like this to discuss such things. Generally, those that hunt up such sites, are those that have problems and are looking for reasons, or others that share their experiences. However overall, it's a very small percentage of the millions of people that are taking it. For example, Paxil/Paroxetine has a...

I have used Paroxetine for more than ten years, having used another SRi for several years. Paroxetine was certainly better than the first drug prescribed (Citalopram, I think it was), but I have come off Paroxetine altogether in the last month and discovered some serious issues. I was taking 20 mg per day from the start. I read recently that Paroxetine might relate to Dementia so asked about alternatives. I was prescribed Sertraline. I stepped-down from 20 to 15 mg per day without a problem. After one week I went down to 10 mg per day for a further week, again without problem. I noticed I was able to think more clearly and my recall improved substantially. I then went to 10 mg every other day. Within three days I noticed a return of anxiety, panic and insomnia. I was even crying about my s

Hi, I had been on paroxetine 20 mg for about a month, and suddenly have like, a layer of fat on my belly that hasn't gone away. For more background, I started taking it probably a little more than a month and a half ago, and I started experiencing some extreme (for me) side effects that I had never experienced with anxiety or depression meds before, namely dizziness and feeling sleepy more often. I looked up other people's experiences to see if those were common side effects, and then saw people talking about how it made them gain a lot of weight. I'm 5' tall and about 95 lbs, and have never had any problems with weight before but just in case I made sure to start exercising more/longer (both cardio and muscle toning type stuff), cut down on sugar (and some other things ...
