Pain Management In East Texas

Updated

Who is the best pain management doctor in the Beaumont area? We just moved from Austin, and after calling around, can't find a good one.

For starters, they all tell you right off the bat they don't prescribe Oxycodone. What? Why reject a drug before you even know a patient's history or what kind of results they've had with it.

Why does every pain doc in Beaumont have this asinine attitude, and what alternatives do they offer? (I am already on Fentanyl patches, with a spinal stimulator, and that does not control the pain).

I'd prefer someone who takes Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The reason you're getting that attitude is because when someone calls asking for a specific medication, doctors have been taught to view that as drug seeking behavior and they'll tell you they don't prescribe it, even if they really do.

What you actually have to do is get yourself set up with a new doctor, then go in for an appointment and let your medical records speak for themselves, instead of asking them to prescribe a medication like this over the phone.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Do you have a new PCP there, yet? If so, they should be able to refer you to someone.

Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?

Wrong. This is something they are saying when they call regarding the referral from our primary care doc. I am not calling around asking for anything. I am however frustrated that any doc would rule out a legitimate medication for a legitimate condition.

I may be misunderstanding. There is no way that your current drs office is calling another drs office and asking if they prescribe a specific drug, let alone Oxycodone. If you are being told this you're being lied to. The only thing that you can do is call your insurance company and ask for a list of Pain Manegement Drs that accept your insurance. Make an appointment and don't mention the Oxycodone on your first visit. Let the new dr get your previous medical records. Even then, a new dr may or may not prescribe the Oxycodone. The only other alternative you may have would be to travel to see your old dr in Austin. There are a lot of people that travel out of state to receive the pain management that works best for them.

My pain doc runs diagnostics on you to see what med's metabolize best in your bodys...does yours? That being said I have had to ask for changes from one drug to another cause it has worked well on me in the past regardless of its metabilizing rate.... That too is a suggestion... may need to go through that diagnostic before they will do anything?

Thanks, Gary. I look forward to any recommendations your friend can make; and good to know about different metabolizing rates. Once I get a doc, I will ask him about that too.

BL..you're definitely not following what I'm saying. My primary care doc is referring me to others. THOSE doctors offices (three so far) call me to get me set up for an appointment. That's how the process works. Each of those three has told me flat out that they don't prescribe oxy. One after I mentioned I had been on it; and the other two even before they asked for my insurance information. So, I haven't gone to them, because as I mentioned before, it's asinine for a doctor to rule out a medication before he even knows the patient's history. He or she can't be a very good doctor.

Where near Texarkana? My Dallas doc moved to Houston, looking for new doc for my Roxy and Butrans. I suffer from RA, Fibro, 2 Bulging discs, and a recent serious car wreck. Thanks.

That's not surprising at all for East Texas. In fact, most ERs won't even prescribe HYDROCODONE anymore As THE Have schedule 2'd It In December 2014. They are extremely stingy here with anything other than t3s and even those can be hard to get. I moved from Iowa 4 years ago and they gave percs out like candy.

I need a Primary care Dr who will possibly prescribe Norco for a chronic pain problem.
Don't want to ask specifically for Norco but wondering anyone knows of a doctor in the Golden Triangle I can call that will have the possibility of refilling my medicine. My doctor is ill and not available.
