Oxycontin Prescription Urine

Updated

My boyfriend takes high dosage of oxycontin and oxycodone through pain management doctor. He had to get his prescription early because he took too many the first 3 weeks. His doctor gave him a urine test today when he picked up his prescription early. He told the doctor he was going out of town so he could get them. He was only able to take a small dosage last night...no where near his normal prescription but up until yesterday was taking very close to his normal dosage. I am wondering what kind of test they would be running. If they run a level type test and since he was only a day of taking a smaller dose will the level show up as what he is supposed to be taken? He started to go into a withdrawal state last night. If it shows up as too low will he be kicked off pain management? I am so nervous for him. He says he will be fine since he was taking his normal prescription until the day before the test. He doesnt take any illegal drugs or drink alcohol. Please help with any information.

Shana,
Your boyfriend should be okay. I used to work in a dr's ofc and they probably just did the test to make sure the opiates are in his system, which it sounds like they are. Unless hes been off of them for over 3 days, the opiates will show up in his urine. The only way they would do a test to see exactly how much he is taking is if they think he isnt even taking them(like selling them). Try not to worry, he should be fine.L

Thank you for your feedback. I feel somewhat better however his Dr. called and asked when he was coming back to town and he said in a few weeks and asked if there was a problem and they said no they were just wondering. Now I am really freaking out! Do you know if you mess up on a pain contract will they just kick you right out or do you get a second chance??

Most doctors will kick the person out.

The issue here may be due to getting it refilled early, because that would be reported to them. In most cases, if he were given a prescription to have while going out of town, it still shouldn't be refilled, until needed.

Learn more Oxycontin details here.

Has he heard anything else from them, yet?

He got a call asking him when he would be back in town about 5 days after his refill. The Dr. has to hand write his script since it is a narcotic so he knew about the early refill. He just received a call today telling him he needed to come in and bring his pills. He told them that he was out of town still and asked if there was a problem. The nurse got on the line and said that his pain medication did not show up in his system but something that he is not prescribed did. The only thing we could think of that he would have taken is one of my Xanax from the night before. There is no way that his pain medications could show up as negative. He takes such high dosage they would not be out of his system that fast. The nurse said "Well we need you in here" He told her once again that there was no way he could make it in. She told him the Dr. would have to give him a call back. The Dr. did not call today. Now I am really freaking out. I don't know if they can kick him out of their program now and if they do will he be able to find another pain Dr. that would take him on. If he did have to find another Dr. would they keep him on the same type and amounts that he is currently on. I am so scared because he has gone through this for so long and has tried to commit suicide from the pain before. Any information or advice anyone could give??

Look, go back and re-read your posts......I'm not trying to just start a fight here, but it is OBVIOUS your Boyfriend (and/or you) is pulling some crap here. These people are not stupid, and even though your BF may feel entitled to get drugs for whatever pain he is experiencing, the doctors who prescribe them put their careers and reputations on the line when they hand out LARGE amounts of dangerous drugs. if you or he overdoses or does something bad or harmful to other people while on these drugs, the DOCTOR most likely will face some serious repercussions.....

I implore you, get your boyfriend some REAL help if you even suspect he has a substance problem. SUICIDAL tendencies, whatever the cause, are not to be dismissed. And if he is that Dependent (not addicted, DEPENDENT) on pain meds to get by, then he needs psychiatric help as well as medical management of his pain. Do you understand....?

I feel for you both, I truly do, but the simple, SIMPLE fact here is this: If you follow the rules and do what you are supposed to, you really will not have any serious lasting problems. There are always exceptions, but once you start LYING, you are screwed, because all they have to do is uncover one falsehood, and your credibility is GONE. These drugs CHANGE people, they change how you think, they dull your conscience (which is why criminals of all stripes do drugs to help them deal with pangs of guilt.)

I am telling you this so that the REAL physical pain he is experiencing will continue to be treated and managed....and again, get some additional help. psyhcological/psychiatric or whatever....they can actually HELP him ensure he gets the appropriate pain meds because now his regular medical doctor giving him Opiates will know there is another, EXPERT specialist on board he can share some of this heavy responsibility with.....in other words, he is not alone anymore and it is not only his ASS on the line.

I hope this helps.....the truth realy will set you free; try it!

Honestly leaving town is the oldest excuse DR'S. hear If hes telling truth he still ran out early.Over abuse of drug is causing approx. 4 deaths daily in Ohio. Laws changed #of opoid pt. to 300pts.unless a specialist Sounds to me like your BF has a problem.I am not a DR. but have had 5 surgerys 2 on back may need another since people abuse meds.so can't have them to function. If a pt. is in enough pain they'll have surgery in hope of relieving pain. Check for Suboxon med. no withdrawl helps pain.for pts. in trouble w/meds

Re: Eric (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Have you ever tried to get help for dependency? At 54, my Dr put me on ms contin 6x2, percocet 10 4x, canal. 5 3x. I'm not a druggie, don't sell, give away nothing, I was very ill and bipolar, 3 weeks in a coma and 4 lung surgeries. Never did he or anyone else advise me how my physiological changes in my body would become so vicious the longer I took. Last summer, I knew I had a U/A, but unbeknownst to me, a family member left one of his prescribed 10 mg methadone in a tray next to my chair. I got up in the middle of the night as usual in extreme pain, so I took it. My crime? Not putting on glasses first. 2 weeks later after 5 years I got a dismissal letter. Never come back and I wasn't even allowed to speak to him. The amount of that one methadone had to have been so minimal it blew my mind. Personally I believe his office mgr played a large part but no matter. I panicked, had a seizure which scared the crap out of my family, but guess what? I've always used the same pharmacy, have only seen 2 family dr's here, so I went back to my first one and couldn't be happier. But make no mistake, they are being very strict looking for Dr shoppers, people asking for Rx's early, etc... I just think the Dr who put me on all of that should have warned me of long-term use. He never could find me a shrink. And gee now he's opened a pharmacy in his office. The new U/A drug screens do monitor the amounts now, not just if you've taken it, and while I've never been asked in for a pill count, my sister in Ky has. I'd prefer to be totally drug free but try reaching out to Medicare for that, only Medicaid patients here get rehab, etc... If it weren't for my lungs I'd risk the surgery, but, who knows? Someday it may come down to that vs heroin, like at almost 60 I'd even know we here to find it. A LOT of holier than thou people on this board... RETIRED DR's? Perhaps? Anyway, In a round-about way I told myself to go off.
