Both Oxycodone (oxycontin) and Morphine can test positive for opiates; so depending on the quality of the test given, there's always a chance for a false-positive discrepancy between the two.

Furthermore, many of the standardized drug tests typically used for screenings lack the sensitivity to distinguish beyond the basic structures of the drug class vs. the drug name; making the odds of a false-positive even greater.

I was taken 40mg Oxycontin 2x daily for my chronic daily headaches. I was called in for a urine test & immediately stopped my meds cuz they said I tested positive for Morphine when I never touched it. Then 6 mos later I was taking 20mg Oxycontin & the exact same thing happen & @ the very same clinc. I questioned that Dr & she said she had talked with 2 different technicians & they told her that there is no wY possible morphine can be found in oxycontin. I'm just confused by reading all these false/positives cuz I've been without any pain meds for over 8 yrs now & suffering tremendusly. Do I go back to my 1st Dr & bring this false/positive situation up to him & let him know I've been doing research??

I am prescribed oxycodone and xanex and take weekly urine drug tests that go to a lab and I was recently told that one of my tests came back positive for morphine and I have not taken anything else besides my prescribed Rxs. How is this possible? I am having them retest the one they said came back positive for morphine because I know I DID NOT TAKE ANYTHING besides my meds. Any one know how this could happen? Hopefully the retest will come out correctly or Ill take a hair follicle test to prove I didn't do anything besides my Rxs.

Ive been going to my Pain Dr for over 6 yrs never tested for morphine ever in other test taken until i took test 3 wks ago came back with it in my urine .also when i was at the Drs I never got notice that my Dr was no longer there so new Dr wanted to change oxycontin 40 mgs 3x day to morphine can't take it coz im allergic to it .so any way what can I do to prove that Ive never touched the stuff coz they dropped me as patient .Im wonder if there doing this coz they want to just get rid of his patients coz they got rid of him . help I need my meds for my pain .

From what I understand, Oxycontin metabolizes into paramorphine in the liver. So in my opinion, it is quite possible that test would show morphine presence, as the tests are quite basic and do not distinguish between the different variations of the drug. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong with this.

Regardless of any medication that you are prescribed, your pharmacist can print off a med list with the prescribing doctors name showing the basic information that applies you and your medicines. Then the drug tester has to make note of your prescriptions. If you provide this information before signing for a drug test any contradictions/false positives are "personal defamation/slander of character" No one person should suffer because of the cheap chemical tests employers use. A correct "drug test" usually cost around a thousand dollars and require a proper laboratory to analyze test results.

I WENT 2 E.R. 4 UTI INFECTION AND SINUS CONGESTION I TOLD DOCTOR I WAS IN SEVERE PAIN WITH R.A SO HE GIVES ME A SHOT OF MORPHINE A PILL RAN TEST SAID I HAD SEVERE BLADDER INFECTION AND SINUSITIS SO HE GAVE ME ANOTHER SHOT OF MORPHINE..SENDS ME HOME WITH 3 PRESCRIPTIONS.. A COUPLE DAYS LATER I WAKE UP IN HOSPITAL NEUOR SAID I HAD MORPHINE POISING HAD 2 STAY 3 DAYS IN HOSPITAL ON I.V. DOCTORS WERE PUMPING MORPHINE OUT...SO I WENT TO FAMILY DOCTOR AND FAILED MY DRUG TEST. HE CALLED ME A JUNKIE. I TOLD MY D.R. 2 CALL THE E.R. BECAUSE MORPHINE DOES HAVE OXYCONTIN IN IT SO BE AWARE!!!
