Oxycontin 30mg Cr - Fox Valley Area, Wisconsin

Updated

I had a Cervical Fusion in 2002 in another state from where I presently live. Ever since the surgery, I have been in the most horrific pain. (Please bear with me while I explain...)

Unfortunately, my surgeon screwed up the C5/C6 Cervical Fusion so bad that, as a result, I am in so much more pain now than prior to the surgery. Excruciating, unbearable, horrific pain.

Years later post surgery, I found out that he was the 'kingpin' (what the newspapers and court documents stated) of a ring of doctors that kept patients in their little circle. Patients were unwittingly kept inside this circle of doctors, tossed back and forth like a toy, and then surgeries were performed. Purposefully accumulating all that expense, and then OVER-BILLING the insurance companies was their game... then splitting the profits within the group. Patient after patient after patient!

According to court documents, after one woman was left paralyzed from direct and proven negligence ... only then did anyone take notice of how many of us were operated on by this "surgeon." He almost got away with it, too. Blamed it on the anesthesiologist (who lost his license, his practice, everything - and his med mal insurance paid the woman). Needless to say, the anesthesiologist didn't give up and was able to prove he had nothing to do with what happened to that poor woman, and with his attorney's help, was able to uncover this circle of 'doctors' (and I use that term VERY loosely!) and what they were doing. It took many years. The anesthesiologist did get his license reinstated and his med mal insurance was reimbursed from the 'kingpin' and his associates --- but his reputation was ruined, and not by his doing.

Only one person (and NOT the surgeon) went to prison. The rest were given slaps on the wrists, small fines, community service, etc. And the 'kingpin' got the same --- yet was able to get out of community service by doing to this woman what has been done to me over, and over, and over.

No doctor would help her. Not one. In fact, she couldn't even make an appointment. All legal. A doctor does not 'have' to see a patient and can give any excuse as long as it does not speak of discrimination. Which is exactly what happened to me. Once they heard who performed my surgery --- they refused treating me. I learned very quickly to NOT speak of my surgery to get in to see doctors for my high blood pressure medication, my cholesterol medication, stomach medications, etc. However, once "in" ... they noticed my wincing in pain and trying so very hard to not tear up when they'd examine me because the pain from my neck just shot through my entire body. I would try to gloss over the fact that I had a fusion done years earlier. Demanding to know who performed the surgery, and my trying to play dumb and "not" remember his name didn't work very well. They found out. Low and behold - no surprise to me - once they found out ........ they 'couldn't' see me anymore and I was given the most ridiculous excuses as to why. But I knew why...

In fact, they would send me on treks to various doctors, specialists, labs, yada yada, themselves for evaluations I didn't need, nor did I want. If I baulked... done. Time to find another doctor, and quickly before my medications ran out. Then the whole thing began again.

To my disbelief (or belief at this point) --- the surgeon is still practicing, performing surgeries, etc. He had a slew of attorneys from two different states of which the newspapers coined as "the dream team." He got away with very little punishment, and -- this is the kicker -- this practice is soooo common and widespread (and I should know - as I have been the victim of it through three states now) that I know of very few doctors that aren't involved in some sort of fashion. That so many, many doctors are involved in this 'behavior' in addition to getting kickbacks from insurance companies (for sending patients to a particular lab vs. another, for ordering a particular diagnostic vs. what the patient truly needs, sending the patient to this hospital vs. that hospital, for ordering a plethora of particular diagnostics to NOT ordering any at all --- all depends on what he/she can get out of whom. And some play both sides of the fence. Getting kickbacks wherever they can get them ... all while the patient suffers.

I am so sickened by this 'practice' as it is sooooooo widespread, it is ridiculous! I have lived in three states since my surgery. Including Nevada (state where surgery took place), I've lived in Arizona, and then moved back home to Wisconsin. And in all three states, this 'practice' is booming!!! I have seen so many doctors; internal medicine doctors, family practitioners, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, spinal specialists ... you name it, I've seen them. Or TRIED to see them.

Why? Looking for relief from the ungodly pain that has completely destroyed my life! All for the few bucks those monsters made from my pre-surgery, surgery, and post-surgery visits. I can NOT even get my medical records from the surgeon. It took me years .. YEARS .. of calling and writing to get copies of my medical records. Finally, I had to have an attorney intervene. Couldn't afford it, but I needed those records! All I eventually got was a couple pages from the surgeon's office. That's it! My surgery was a VERY short paragraph long. Wha??? When I would listen to him through the door while waiting to see him on one of my many, many visits prior to (and after) surgery in which he would dictate 'volumes' for a single office visit for another patient --- consistently --- every patient -- every time I was there. Yet, my surgery was only a few sentences long? Really??? And my 'records' didn't say a whole lot about all the office visits. In fact, nothing at all. I didn't receive one record of ANY office visits . Useless in terms of helping other doctors understand what happened to me.

ANYWHO (sorry for the long-winded statement) ... from those few doctors that would see me, I was put on Vicodin, Percocet, Neurontin, Methadone, Morphine, Opana, Duragesic patches, and a host of other pain medications that I can't even remember all their names anymore --- plus a huge host of antidepressants ... dear god!!! ALL (and I mean ALL) of which made me sick. So sick, that I would throw up within hours of taking some of them, couldn't walk, would fall for no reason, severe headaches, uncontrollable shaking, confusion, serious stomach issues, etc., with NO relief of pain. They tried inj's. - facet, selective nerve root blocks, and another one that sent me into seizures. ALL these inj's. caused my pain to increase. The pain management doctors couldn't believe it. They stated they've never seen that before. That I should either have had no relief or some relief ... but NOT more pain, especially to the point where I would be literally screaming and my body was contorted with uncontrollable and painfully spasms.

I kept telling ... oops, can't 'tell' a doctor anything ... I kept advising, suggesting, whatever I could say depending on whom I was talking to ... that I am EXTREMELY sensitive to medications. I'm allergic to penicillin and suffer serious side effects from many different medications that most people can tolerate. Not ever being taken seriously, they would prescribe something and I would either end up in the ER or back in their office. Only then would 'some' of them say, "Wow, you are very sensitive to medications." YEAH ... NO KIDDING!!! That's what I've been saying!!!

ANYWHO (again ... sorry) ... finally, a doctor put me on a medication I had never heard of up to that point. 30mg of Oxycontin CR (no worries about acetaminophen) X twice daily / 12 hours apart combined with 5mg oxycodone IR for breakthrough pain throughout the day. OMG!!!! It was the first time since my surgery that I felt some relief from the pain. Nothing gives me complete relief but this was incredible. I could breathe without pain, I could get 'some' sleep versus no sleep, I didn't suffer from headaches anymore, I didn't throw up, no more confusion, falling, decreased moaning and crying from the agonizing pain.

Until ........... yup. I get the yearly pre-auth letter from my insurance company. For whatever reason, my doctor freaks out!!! Refuses to refill my pain meds. I call the insurance company wondering what is going on. They state all he has to do is either call the number provided or send in a written explanation as to why I'm on the medication (as they have the previous ones from previous years on file from my previous doctors) and it WILL be approved. Especially since there is a record of the FACT that I cannot tolerate medications, and have tried many other medications that resulted in severe side effects. That Oxycontin is the one I can tolerate and have been taking for years with NO increase in dosage. I don't want an increase in dosage ... in fact, was considering asking my doctor if the dosage could s-l-o-w-l-y be reduced to see if I could maintain at a lower level (well, the best that I can maintain since the damage to my spine). He WON'T do it. He won't prescribe me anything since the pre-auth letter. WHA???? I'm lost!! He refuses to prescribe the one medication that helps me survive this hell. Since the pre-auth letter, he states I need to find someone else to prescribe my pain meds. I don't understand. I explained what the insurance company told me. He won't write the prescriptions, even though he has been for almost a year now. I'm screwed.

I have been searching and searching for a doctor to help me. As usual, no one will. They will NOT prescribe Oxycontin. WILL NOT. I don't know what to do. My prescription will be gone in a little over a week. Going from 30mg to "0" ... I'm scared as hell. Not only am I terrified of what is going to happen to my body -- but the pain. Dear god ... the pain.

I need a doctor who is not afraid to write me these 2 scripts. I have my file from my previous doctor (before the doctor I'm presently seeing). He retired and gave me a very thorough copy of my medical records, diagnostics, etc. Had been seeing him since my move back to Wisconsin in 2007. But he retired, hence my present doctor. Who inexplicably freaked when I brought him the pre-auth letter.

Please help me!! Can anyone please tell me WHO will write me the two prescriptions I need that practices in the Fox Valley Area (that is Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, Appleton). I can travel as far down as Fond du Lac --- it would be difficult with my neck pain, but if that's my only option ... I'll find someone to drive me. Otherwise Green Bay ... now that would be more difficult. Much farther to drive. I can't do that ... maybe I could find someone to drive me. But every month??? I dunno.

Please help me!
