Oxycodone Shortage Scam (Page 3)

Updated

Guys, i hate to tell you this but its all bulls***>>> after 3 weeks trying to fill my Oxy 30, 140, i finally got to speak to my Pharm Manager who Ive used for 12 years. He told me straight up, that all the calls and people have hurt their regular business, so they decided to stop ordering Oxy in any amout to avoid the crap I was floored as all of a sudden he filled my script on the spot not 30 secs before they were all telling me they didnt have any. He told me last that would be the last one filled as hes not ordering anymore. I discussed with him about just oredering for me, as I'm legit and trying to follow the rules by using only one doctor and one pharmacy. He said he"ll consider it just for me. What a bunch S***!!! This from a guy Ive known for 12 years. It is a Walgreens, This is a conspiricy to avoid all of the drug seekers at our expense. They should go back to getting it off the street and leave us alone. How many more of us have to suffer? Im dag gone tired of being looked at as a druggy as I limp up to the counter. I spent 30 years as a cop on the job in New York, shot in the leg and arm for the citizens I swore to protect and now to be treated like the guys I put in the slammer? Im sure there are plenty of us on the blog. What the hell? Anybody know a good attorney? I guess I should start taking Morphine or Herion and sleep all day since I cant get the medication that works and this is America? Sound off you guys its the only way were going to be heard. God Bless you.

Because you never let him run out! Duh. That was tough to answer. And if you had let him run out , yes he would have been a mess in someway, if he admitted to it. End of story.

done playing ,i hear ya if the powers that be stopped to think by with holding shipments and giving pharmacys the power to say they feel comfy filing for they are making the drug dealers richer cause now when you could get your meds the people selling on the street were making far less than they are now common sense supply and demand so in truth the government is making the problem worse .now addressing all the robberies if the patients could get meds the street dealers wouldn't be making money like they won the lottery .you cleaned up pill mills and bad docs that's the first step now give the patients there meds cause i guarantee that now you have legit patients turning to the street cause its still cheaper than pharmacys that charge 600 to Ive heard 1800 for a script that normally cost about 200 wow good job idiots also all these deaths arent from patients but from kids who mix it with other meds and shoot up take your resources and start teaching at a young age that perscription meds can be like playing russian roulette stop witholding meds and the dealers will not be making a profit and all the pharms price goudging your no better that the person on the corner

According to you, nobody should be on a narcotic pain reliever for 8 years. Yet, in your original post you claim your own boss has a clientele of regulars who have been getting narcotics for 5 years "plus". Considering a couple years won't make that big a difference once titration is established (and after several years of use)...I wonder if you consider yourself to be part of the problem?

It's ironic that you object to long-term use, yet that is whose Rxs you fill, while you deny new or potential short-term customers access to the medication, which you'd prefer. You guys are no better than the pill-mill doctors who helped create this problem. Correction...you're worse since for years you profitted off the sale of a drug you now say shouldn't have been prescribed in such fashion. And instead of working with the Dr's to help taper your customers off this drug, in most cases, you've cut them off cold turkey. Time to hop off that high horse.

Perhaps because the state of Florida has most of the nations elderly people and many of them need pain meds.

I take offense to this comment! I worked 2 full time jobs when I started having lower back and knee problems. I had 2 surgeries on my knee simply because I didn't want to quit working and go on disability and contribute nothing to society as you so rudely say! Unfortunately, there was nothing any doctor could do for me and my own long term disability from job #1 made me and got me my social security. Yes I do live in pain everyday of my life. I'm no where as high on the pain killers as your husband. Do you think I want to be contributing nothing as you say? No I don't! I'd give anything to be pain free working holidays that I used to gripe about! I'm not selling my pills to make ends meet or any other wrong illegal thing you may think. I get a better monthly income from SSDI then most men I know. So just because I'm not prescribed that much, and by no means would I want to be, don't discriminate on those of us on SSDI. Most of us are there for a reason. I worked delivering news papers from age 9 till my health got me at age 40 as I stated working 2 full time jobs, a manager at both jobs. You may have made a lot of good points here but this was just a plain ignorant and rude comment. I wish you all the health in the world! I hope you never end up on disability with no purpose to life at all as you refer to my life. Thank you for being so ignorant!

There are more people in severe pain in Florida because this is where a lot of war veterans live and older folks retire here.

@ hitman60: you are clearly not a medical professional of any kind, and I highly doubt you've felt real pain a day in your life. People with very painful conditions are given much more than 140 Oxys a month- many need pain rx cocktails just to live normal lives. You're obviously a judgmental kid that has no clue what actual pain patients experience and you probably are only speaking from the standpoint of taking a few Oxys here and there "for fun". Which means YOU are keeping legit pain patients from getting the relief they NEED to live a normal life. Keep your idiotic, baseless opinions to yourself. You've made yourself look like a total moron. Congrats. Lol.

I like all these testimonials from people who supposedly work in pharmacies and then immediately say a bunch of things that make it clear that they don't have the slightest clue what they're talking about. The DEA has punished several warehouses/wholesalers with massive fines/shut downs for selling too much oxy 30 to pharmacies (including the pill mills in Florida others have mentioned), and there isn't really a clear "X amount will get you in trouble" value set out by the DEA. Wholesalers have to just kind of set arbitrary limits on how much they can sell and hope that they're within guidelines. The reality is that if I can only get a certain amount per month, and you have some s***ty Med D plan that I'm barely going to break even, or sometimes even get paid less than the cost that I paid to get the medication, I'm not going to fill that. It's nothing personal, it's how I keep the doors open. There isn't a production shortage right now, there's a shortage with how much pharmacies are allowed to buy, and it's going to keep getting worse. Talk to your doctors about taking 2x15mg tablets, or a 10mg and 20mg tablet to make the dose.

Man you do not yo know what you are talking about. There are those of us out here who do need a higher dose than you might think because their pain is legitimate. I have RSD and the pain without anything (which is my currant state) runs about a 9.5 on the pain scale! I take 10MG #180 each month, but have not been able to get my script filled so far this week. Walgreens says they cannot get it in from their supplier!

@ Joey Motz:
YOU work in a pharmacy?? Uh yeah, no you don't. If you did you would know that it never was just a "few people" who had scripts- they marketed the hell out of these drugs since they came out and prescriptions for them have gone way down, not up. They're being monitored now- before they weren't. Pretty pathetic to lie and say you work in a pharmacy when you don't have a clue about any of this. You sound like a fifteen year old kid.

I found this forum just by surfing wondering (worrying mostly) if I was going to have a problem stopping my vicodin. I had a root canal twice in the same tooth, and two surgeries in the gum for infection and an extra long root or nerve. Not to saave on dental and especially pain killers. My first experience taking V. My dentist, perio, endo and oral surgeon only give out scripts for 20 pills at most. Here in NJ they don't fool around so every week you have to call a dr. for another script if still in pain and wants to see you. I've had major teeth work done and it continues through the summer. Talk about pain. I can't chew food. I drink protein drinks, soup and coffee. I've lost 20 lbs and weigh 88lbs and in my 50's. Haven't weighted that since I'm 12. I've been taking V for 3 months as prescribed which was 3 a day. It makes me nervous because now that the pain is almost gone I have one V left and wonder if I'm going to have any withdrawal. In the beginning it felt sick to my stomach, not really much of a buzz. Now I take it and the pain is gone and I have zero effects of any kind on it. It's like eatting a skittles by now. I don't feel shaky when it's time to take one if I don't need it but I have been taking the 3 a day. Legit pain is excruciating. I had cancer and they didn't have me leave until I didn't need pain killers anymore. I'm not one to take what's not needed but I've done alot of reading and am scared not to take the last one or maybe break in half so I have two doses. Should I call a dr or pharmacy (have gone to the same one the whole time). How would you know if you have become addicted? I would appreciate any help. I'm worried. They say you can read just enough to scare you to death if you don't know it all and I think that's what's going on with me. I would just like some input. I don't know what it is to be addicted or dependent or an addict. I don't know the difference. Pain kills your quality of life. Truely. I know my Walgreens has no problem filling my scripts. Been regular for 10 years and never scripts for pain. Over the last 3 months it's been constant every week. This is first week not filling a script and frankly I am so glad not to have to take anymore but scared what my body may go through cold turkey. Can you get addicted taking it everyday for 3 months as prescribed?

While everybody is different, generally, if you've been taken the Vs for pain (and not recreationally), your WD symptoms shouldn't be too bad. The body uses the opiate differently: getting a buzz vs reducing pain. With the latter, your body will still produce endorphins to help manage intolerable pain vs getting a buzz, in which case the body wont produce as much, which leads to more severe WDs when you stop.

While 3 months is enough to create some dependency, the amount you are taking is minimal compared to others I've seen. In fact, I had a similar situtation with Dry-Socket and infection for about two months (taking much more than you) and while I had some diarrhea and cramps, it wasn't too bad. If it gets too uncomfortable, Klonipin or the like can help take the edge off. Most importantly, don't talk yourself into more serious symptoms that may actually exist.

Great reply, Chris! I agree and think you may have some psychosomatic symptoms that could make it more unpleasant than need be. Just don't over think it- you were taking a minimal amount, so you will have minimal, if any, withdrawal. Bombs away!

My pain clinic had me on 30 mg Percocet 3 times per day and 10mg methadone which I took 3 pills 3 times per day. They told me 2 months ago that they are no longer prescribing methadone, fentenyl and a few other things. I had an allergic reaction to morphine at a hospital ER so my choices were Opana ER or Oxycontin extended release. I tried Opana and it helped the pain but caused severe stomach pains, nausea and hives. I'm now on Oxycontin ER 30mg. My first question is, would 1 Oxycontin ER 30mg be equivalent to 1 Percocet 30 mg and 3 Methadone 10mg? My second question is, how can they titrate me from 9 Methadone per day to 4 per day the following month and then cut me off completely. I know I'm not alone, this clinic has 6 locations and the doc told me they were not prescribing it to anyone after June 30th 2013. It took them 5 months to get me from 3 Methadone per day up to 9. How can they justify decreasing it in 2 months. My last question is, does anyone know of another doctor I can switch to in Southeastern North Carolina. I live about 40 miles south of Fayetteville and 60 miles west of Wilmington.
Just so you don't think I'm just taking them for no reason I have the following medical history:
I have disc herniations at every level, multiple bone spurs, spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis all over my spine, knees, hips etc. I have a tumor on my spine that is 9mm long, I've had 2 back surgeries and the last surgery the surgeon said my sciatic nerve was stuck to my sacrum so he pealed it off causing permanent damage. I have 3 bone fragments that float around in my spine, I also have multiple sclerosis which causes pain all over due to brain damage to the area of my brain related with pain and dystonia that causes my muscles on my entire left side to constantly spasm causing extreme fatigue and pain.
I filed for disability after my last surgery and was approved so quickly that I had to wait 2 months to even get my first check so I'm not faking this. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Our hospital has a pharmacy where the outside population can get there prescription filled. Try going to your hospital pharmacy cause they will have it they have to also keep patients pain free. Costco and SAMs wholesale and mom and pops drug store. Tell your pharmacy that you found a pharmacy that will fill your meds and you are taking your business else where you watch they will all of a sudden have your meds and will wanna fill them but I suggest trying what I suggested
