Oxycodone Op 10mg

Updated

I am a vet from the war that has no end in sight, I am not special just a soldier like many of you out there.
I was shot in the right shoulder and it came out my chest. I was very lucky.
Anyway I have been on 40 mg x two a day of oxycontin for 3 years well it was working fine and controlling my pain. Now I am taking the same meds but on the pill it says op not oc. It is almost like I am not on any pain meds at all.
I don't think my dr. Has a clue about the change in the formula. He wants to give me more op. but I must have become immune to the meds and I want to know if any one has had any success with a drug called daliade I know that is not the proper spilling but I was hoping some one out there has experience with this type of pain relief med.
Thanks mike.

Purdue Pharma did change the formulation of Oxycontin to help prevent abuse, however, we have had many complaints from people that the new formulation doesn't work as well and that it can cause unusual side effects, so it may not necessarily be that you've become tolerant to the medication.

I strongly encourage you to report your problems with it to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers, the more reports they get, the more attention they will pay to this issue:

Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:

888.726.7535

FDA MedWatch number:

As to the Dilaudid, it is a very effective pain medication that contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. When I was getting attacks of Pancreatitis and the doctors weren't getting to the root of the problem, I was given it via a patient controlled analgesic IV in the hospital and it was the only thing that helped with that severe pain.

Since it is a narcotic, the side effect profile for it is about the same as what you were used to with the Oxycontin and can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

The Dilaudid, however, is not time released.

Another option you may wish to discuss with your doctor would be using Morphine, it is available in a time released formulation, as a name brand and generic, called MS Contin.

Hello I have been put on 10mg Oxycontin (Mundipharma) for knee and lower back pain.was wondering if anyone else noticed that the med doesn't last the full 12 hours and only 8-9 hours.I have been taking endone (5mg oxycodone IR) in between doses.I have also noticed a very strange chemical smell that is emitted every time I open a new pill from the blister packet of the oxycontin but not the endone....could this be a preservative of some sort?I have also noticed this smell when opening a Norspan (buphrenorphine) patch. Also interested to know how quickly tolerance develops to oxycontin when used AS PRESCRIBED.Thank you for any info on my questions, much appreciated.

There are many new painkillers out there and yes if you take them even in a hospital setting you will build a tolerance and become physically addicted. Once you are ready to leave the hospital you doctor will slowly wean you off the drug. Depending how much and how long will determine the length of the weaning process. I have been on painkillers for years. First I had my hip replaced, that took about 18 months. A couple months later I fractured the L-2 in my back. Any pain control regimen should have a long lasting time released painkiller. I take oxymorphone 40mg. It lasts 12 hours. PAY ATTENTION, do not take it in anyway other than prescribed. This is a strong painkiller made to be released into the body over a 12hr period. Almost all deaths from his drug are from people chewing them. The second part of a good pain management plan is to also take a drug for breakthrough pain. These meds are fast-acting however the half life is short. Dilaudid is a great if given intravenously. Orally, like Oxycontin they have changed the formula. For an oral medication to get rid of the pain I would recommend 30mg of oxycodone. Hope this helps, PAIN SUCKS!!
