Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 2)

Updated

This is a nightmare!! I suffer from multiple auto-immune diseases such as Connective Tissue Disease, R.A, Livedo, Raynauds, & traces of Lupus. All of which cause EXCRUTIATING PAIN!! On top of all of those, my body attacks itself 24/7!! Over the years the doctors have tried a ridiculous amount of different pain medications. I called it the 'medication game', & it was anything but fun!! Either there was minimal to no relief with them, or they made me feel awful! They tried everything from Percocet 10mgs, Endocet, Methadone 45mgs per day, oxycontin, Hydromorphine 4mgs tablets & 8 mg tablets, & all medicatons are/were accompanied by Ibproufen 800 mgs capsules. During one hospital visit they even had me on a conjunction of Dilauded 8mgs PLUS oxycontin 20 mgs, every 3 hours. It was hell!! I finally saw light at the end of my tunnel when they tried me on Oxycodone 30mgs. I was so greatful bc it was the first medication to give me fantastic pain relief & not make me feel high or stoned what-so-ever!! I was able to get out of bed, function like a human being, & most importantly, be an involved, hand on [parent with my son again. He was just as greatful as I was bc he has his mother back. Fast forward 3 years, & I feel like im back to square one again! The uncompassionate, inconsiderate, ignorant beings who are responsible for the suffering that I, as well as millions of pain patients, should have to walk TWO DAY in our shoes!! I say 2 bc after the 1st full day of unbearable pain, that actually makes you ask yourself, " Would I be better off ending it all??", after this full day of pain is over, they can go to bed, & wake up to find themselves in the same condition the next day!! For a real pain patient without PROPER medication there is no 'It'll get/be better tomorrow"!! You would think after a bold move to stop all distribution of such a successful & life saving medication, they would've done a little bit of research! But no! They took the only bit of information they knew, which is the 'Street Drug Perspective', & ran with that!! Something has to give! I went to my dr yesterday & was given a script of Dilauded 8mgs. I HATE IT!!!!! Im nauseas, falling in & out of sleep ALL DAY, & it in no way, shape or form, gives me the comfortable relief that mysuccessful pain regiment of Oxycodone 30mgs 5-6X a day, as needed, gave me! On top of the dilauded making me feel like the walking dead (what do you expect fro morphine), I have unbearable sweats!! I dont know if its from the dilauded, or if its withdrawl from the oxycodone that i have been on for years. If anyone has ANY information as to when or if this shortage will end, please advise. I was told by one pharmasist last month that the state would start recieveing the medicationagainat the end of December. Is there any truth to that???

you can find the petition by following the directions E11, posting number 17. or use FBook, american pain foundation action network florida, this a GROUP not a page. Ask to join and you wll find it soon as it hits. There is a conference call to the pharmacy board executive tomorrow. after that the petition will be going around. Everybody is over there talking about this and getting ready to take action.

It will be available in the next day or two I believe. I will post the link to it when it comes available, but in meantime, would also get in touch with fl state leader, to find out how else we can fight for our rights. The fb page is a great place to learn and share things.

I work for a large chain pharmacy, as far as I can see, I don't think there is a shortage right now. I think I can get #500 with no problem. The thing is, if you call and ask me if I have it in stock, I will tell you that I don't, for sure. If I don't have the entire quantity on hand, I personally will ask you to forfeit the remaining qty, or I will not fill that rx due to the legal/adminitrative procedules I would have to go thru otherwise. A lot of pharmacists will just say they don't have it if your rx calls for 180 and they only have 179. If you have a long term need, talk to the pharmacist and have him keep it in stock for you. Plan ahead. These can take days to order. Please don't post on facebook that you found it at my store. Every time I fill 1 rx of these, I immediatly get 5 calls asking for it -- I kid you not! It makes me nervous. I have to deal with forgeries and even robbery if words are out there that I constantly keep a large quantity.

Hello all, I posted info before about the American Pain Foundation (will include again), BUT, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT, and visit this link to sign a PETITION to support our rights to fill LEGAL PRESCRIPTIONS in the state of FL, and PLEASE FORWARD this petition to as many people that you think would support this issue that is now a crisis.

Link for Petition:

The second link is for a SURVEY to convey the issues you may have had with pharmacies in FL. This is very important to make sure our voices are heard.

(PREVIOUS POST)

Please, all of you having problems with your Pain Management and/or problems filling your medications. It is time to start getting together so our voices can be heard. One foundation I know of, The American Pain Foundation, is a good place to start. (painfoundation.org). Find your leader for the American Pain Foundation by going to the the website, click get involved. A drop down list appear, click leaders. This will take you to a map of the country and click on your state. Your leaders email address will be shown. The one in Lithia/Tampa area is handling this situation. Email her and she will fill you in on what's being done about your problem. Do not believe what your pharmacy is telling you. For those in FL, there is also an APF Florida Facebook page, for support and (run by FL APF Leader-Search- American pain foundation action network florida- Go to the group page. You will have to be added as a member. This is a closed group for privacy. Make sure you choose group NOT page. ) and working together to be heard. Hope to see you there. I have post this way because we can not give contact info on here.

I wonder when all healthcare professionals are going to realize that there are more people in this country/world/Florida then ever before? The population has exploded with natural born citizens and foreigners. The population with pain has grown because of baby boomers and their children, well as the kinds of work people do. Many years ago, there weren't this many people and our great grand parents had the means to take care of their pain on their own, meds were in a Sears catalog. Between 1020 and 1980 many people just had to suffer if you didn't have cancer. The end of 1980 Pain became considered an illness instead of just an ailment and was said to be treated at home, not an ER room, so they began to treat pain at home. Oxycodone was found to be a very effective medication that didn't have the side effects of many other meds without tylenol. Pain patients could continue to work their jobs and so now it has grown in to a solution rather than a disability for social security. Lots of pain patients are on SSDI but many are not. Now that the state of Florida has let the rogue Dr.'s and addicts run away with the situation for several years, they are trying to completely stop treatment going over board. "Throwing the baby out with the bath water". There has to be a balance between the 2. Those pill mills were keeping people out of pharmacies, so now people are getting RX's for this med and they can't keep enough available. The numbers have to show a huge decline in the amount of this med coming into our state now. There are going to be more pain patients from here on out in our country as people age and have accidents, diseases that cause pain. There has be a logical solution. Surgeries are not always successful and the injections are not very effective or lasting. Those treatments cost alot money. They can't cure cancer completely, or arthritis and many other pain causing problems so now we have to fight for our rights to for pain care. The popluation is not going to decline, ever. This my thoughts on this matter. Please help me support our Florida pain patients. Life isn't easy for anyone and it's not going to get better until we get a balance.

They do not allow people to pre-order pain medicine. In fact, they are supposed to fill on a first come, first serve. Have been told it is illegal for them to "hold" certain pain meds for a customer. However, it alllll depends on the pharmacist you get.

I just started opana I.r. tabs and opana e.r. & am getting the same relief oxy gave me w/o any scrappy side affects. The down side is they cost me a lot more. But for now it is worth it. hoping you are in Florida - it has bee true hell because the shortage has been the result of many patients doctor shopping - out of state patients - and over prescribing (not because of us but because that is what the 'expert' did to us) Now, we are surrering the opposite results due to the pendilum swinging the opposite way. Now, they all want us to take less than half of the amount we were used to taking and not considering the tolerance we have as the result of long term use. What do you do?? I've been continuing to try to work with the docs. I've been taken off of somas completely, any zanax has been depleted with the goal of being off benzos too (they are really worse withdrawal than the oxy in my opinion). As for the Oxy IR, Oxycontin and Methadone regimen. My husband takes the Methadone and Oxy 15's IR..(he has no insurance) I taks the Oxy 30's IR and Oxycontin 60mg because I do have insurance to pay for it. Needless to say, the oxy's are the hardest to find. I'm literally now into my scrip of the oxy/roxi IR's 2 weeks into the doc writing the scrip and have to live on the oxycontin for the time I'm not finding the other. (also, unfortunately I have to cheat and take methadone to just not be sick). Many Walgreen pharmacists have been told not to fill methadone and oxys together because of the long term effect the methadone has in your system extenuates the IR oxy to be more/most effective and possibly too effective - lol Anyway, I've found that I have to fill the oxycontin and then search for the 30's separately holding back some other non-narcotic scrip to fill along with it at another pharmacy because Walgreens has not had the 30's for at least 6 months even though I've used them on a monthly basis up until the time they had them for 4-5 years consistently...

Anyone know of any pharmacies that are willing to take new patients for filling ALL scrips together?? I'm in Hillsborough County Florida
Thank for any info you may have

NOT NECESSARILY SO. THE NEW LAWS IN FLA. MAKE IT SO ONLY CERTAIN PHARMACIES NOW CARRY NARCOTIC PAIN MEDS. YOUR PRESENT DRUG STORE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CARRY YOUR OLD MEDS ANYMORE. PERSONALLY I AM CONSIDERING SUING WALGREEN'S FOR REFUSING TO FILL MY PAIN MEDS FROM LAST JUNE UNTIL NOW.

i've been in chronic pain since i was 15 & i'm now 56. what's being done to legitimate chronic pain patients is disgusting. have you ever heard of medtronic's intra-spinal drug infusion pump? by the time i reached 30 the pain was just unbearable & all the nsaids they had given me damaged my kidneys. i then found out about this pump & worked my best to get it. i did get it, although because i'm on il. medicaid they have tried to take it out 2 times (w/o success). only because of this pump, have i been able to come back to life as you said. look it up & you will find out all about them. i've had it now for 24 yrs. & take virtually no oral pain meds anymore!!!!!!! may you be blessed & know you r loved.dvxjk

Don't believe this. There is NO truth to this at all. Oxycodone is slowly being taken off the market. There have been too many issues related to this drug and one of them is addiction so bad that ppl will do most anything to get them. That is very evident from what I see on this site. It's sad that a drug that dr's had no way of knowing would get so out of off control is now being taken off the market bc of crime rates, heavy addiction, homicide, suicide, etc. No one wants to believe this is happening but believe it. It's happening already and this is why ppl are so desperate to find them. There are no shortages..the DEA is slowly withdrawing them from the market. Sorry..but sometimes it's difficult to face the truth. Im so glad I got myself off oxycodone. I was tired of not being able to find them anywhere and having to go through horrible withdrawals when I didn't have them bc I could not get them. Maybe it's time to talk to your dr's about placing you on a different pain med so that you won't have to go through the withdrawals when the day comes that you will no longer be able to find them anywhere..not even on the street. Sorry, ppl, I know it's hard.

Walgreens has been saying the same thing in every state but when you go to a different pharmacy there's no issues. And trust me there's no shortages of any pain medications..I had issues with Walgreens in Ky and I finally started using a independent pharmacy and had no issues at all. Many pharmacies do not carry many narcotics due to robberies and chain stores like walgreens blame a lot of product loss thru shoplifting on narcotic users.Another chains I avoid is Kroger and Rite aid..
