Oxicodone/roxycodone Regulation By D.e.a.

What exactly is going on with the D.E.A. doing, by not letting ANY shipments of Oxicodone go through to ANY pharmacys untill after the 1st of the new year? Can anyone please explain why each individual pharmacy is alotted only so many bottles, irreguardless of how much demand and supply is needed at certain pharmacys, moreso than others, yet, they are now only allowed to have shipped to them a "CAP" if you will, and they willl also not be available untill after the first of the year, as was advanced to me by my pharmacist. ANY INSITE? Im not going to ask weather they are going to do the same thing to these, as they did the Oxicontin, as THAT is complete & udder nonsense!

It's actually a regulation that applies to all controlled substances, not just Oxycodone. It is also isn't a limit that the pharmacies can order in, it's an overall manufacturing limit.

Each year the DEA sets a limit on how much of a controlled substance can be manufactured, such as Oxycodone, Xanax and Adderall. The figure is reach based on the prior years demand, as well as information from the manufacturers and the FDA. Once a figure is reached, it is then split between the various manufacturers and usually it is a good way to predict demand for the upcoming year, while helping control theft and diversion.

However, in any given year, when there have been more prescriptions written than usual and/or there have been severe cases of theft/diversion, it can cause the supply to be exhausted, before the end of the year.

Production will return to normal in January.

Yes VERWON, THERE IS. Will PPL be able to fill their script's on or about the 1st of January, or will we have to wait untill the D E A is done "counting", & that can happen at any point durring the month ? Gunney, to be quite honest, I am not sure. The specifics of when they do the count, so the new supply will be available isn't something that I can find listed anywhere.

In theory, I would think it's probably done before the end of the year, so production can begin and a supply will be on the shelves by the 1st of January, but there is nothing that specifically spells it out.
