My wife has been using osteo valen for about a year. she has noticed no side effects or adverse reactions, and her stature and posture is good, but has not had a bone density test since she started the medicine. We'd appreciate any experience replies, (good or bad) about the product.

This is an over the counter item, so it is not regulated like prescritption drugs and information on it, and proof of its efficacy are not readily available.

I have been taking Osteo Valin for 6 months. My bone scan on April 8, 2010 showed strong healthy bones. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with osteopenia. In 2002 I asked for another scan and it came back with severe osteoporosis. I took Fosamax for 3 years - experienced jaw pain that I finally figured out was from the Fosamax. I stopped that in 2006. Then I read Dr. Gotts column and cut it out. I waiting and ask my ob-gyn and he said give it a try. I did and now I have strong healthy bones. There may be other factors. I have always eaten dairy products, now use lactose free milk or soy milk, but seem to tolerate cheese, yogurt and low fat cottage cheese alright. I also retired in 2008 and am experiencing much less stress than I used too. I'm also finally getting the sleep I have always craved - 9 hours a night keeps me more alert, less tired. I do take 500 mg of Citracal a day. Google Osteo Valin - several sites including info and side affects pop up. Also I am learning - ask a pharmacist not a doctor. I have a doctor that has a pill for everything, then the research comes out later. Good luck

I forgot one other detail. I was taking Fosamax for osteopenia and my allergist had me taking Advair and Flonase for chronic post nasal drip and sore throat and repeated bouts of bronchitis. I finally read the sheets the pharmacist puts in with prescriptions and guess what! The combination of Fosamax and cortocosteroids (Advair and Flonase both fall in this group) can actually cause osteoporosis. Advair and Flonase also seriously dried me out, eyes especially. I have stopped taking them too. I have given up caffiene (about 90% of my days without) which means chocolate as well as tea, coffee, etc. I have the head of my bed elevated. I think the chronic sore throat, which turned into chronic cough at night was from Gastro Esophagheal reflux disorder. As much as I hate giving up chocolate I have decided I don't want to get hooked on the acid blocking drugs. You can look up how different foods affect you acidity and alkalinity. I prefer modified diet to drugs. I've had too many wrong prescriptions given to me.

Anne Lee (#googled osteo valen and I would be a perfect candidate for this! Just a shame for all of us on Medicare couldn’t afford it. We still have to pay for all the other drugs we need. I wish it was a prescription but imagine the copay would still be high. Happy that it worked for you.
