Opana For Chronic Nerve Pain

Updated

I suffer from terrible nerve pain as a result of an accident that left me a paraplegic. I've tried everything. Morphine, Fentanyl, a slew of non narcotics that I take along side of the narcotics. One being Hydrocodo. Nothing has really helped. The pain is often HORRIBLE and I'm becoming desperate. My Dr. just prescribed me Opana and I'm waiting for the drug to show up at my pharmacy. Has anybody close to my situation had any good results with Opana? I'd love to hear some good news from somebody. Also, for what it's worth I still have my hardware in my back and I smoke. Although I'm working on quitting and I don't think it should be much longer now. Please help,.........anybody.

Thats encouraging. I forget the mills. that I was prescribed. My script is still at the pharmacy. It wont be ready until Wednesday.

When you say Opana is great, are you saying great for my kind of nerve pain or just great in general? My nerve pain so far has been a real pain to treat. Nothing else has really helped consistently.

Thanks alot for your reply. Opana sounds somewhat promising. Fingers crossed.

Hey i tried opana too, on top of NO PHARMACIES carry it(too expensive) it was not what I had hoped. It had awful side effects & not too efficent on pain. I do not mean to bring you down but I just want to let you know peolple either hate it or love it(everyone is different). Most people find it does not last a full 12hours either. BUT a lot of people it does work great for so I do wish you the best! I did have to try alot of pharms til I found one who did stock it, that way you dont have to wait. Goodluck!

No problem..remember if you find it doesnt last a full 12hrs(common w er pain meds) ask your dr to try 3x a day which a lot of people do. Hope it works! I have the same problem, cant seem to find something thats works. Very FRUSTRATING. Nerve pain too that doesnt stop! Hey make sure you get a breakthrough(BT) med that would be a (IR) instant release usually oxycodone or hydromophone that really helps for when your pain literatly breaks through its normal baseline pain. Trust me if you have this, you need. Makes a huge difference!

Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone, it is a very potent narcotic that is very helpful to a lot of people, when other pain medications have not worked.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

Differnet strokes for differnet folks. Although a person can discribe their experience with a medication we are basiclly like snowflakes, everyone is different, I found Opana to be helpful with spine pain but not helpful for nerve and soft tissue. I found Oxicontin and Oxycodone to helpful with those kid of pains and also found Lyrica to be very help for the pain but the side affects of Lyrica made me stop taking it. Another medication tha seems to help people with nerve pain is neorotin, but again side affects sometimes stop you from taking a medication. Your going to have to try differnet things until you find what works for you, and then pray they don't go chnaging it for silly reasons to the point of it not helping you any more.

Nuerontin is a non narcotic aimed specifically for nerve pain. If used in conjunction with the opana it should be extremely helpfull but everyone reacts differently. I hope this helps as I never us this site because it is full of abusers, but I feel bad for a true chronic pain patient like myself who is unable to find relief from pain even if it is only partiall relief which often occurs.

I have nerve pain from an accident that happened in 1999. I was 22.... I am 34 and I lived with chronic pain for 12 years Opana is the ONLY drug that I have taken that take away ALL of the pain while it is working. It is the most amazing feeling NOT to have the pain. It really lets me live and although my own family would prefer I do not take opiates... I would rather be pain free and have my friends be my family than try to live with it just for them. I would keep your Opana ER locked up and Opana IR works great for breakthrough pain. Alcohol is out of the question... but living without constant pain is amazing. Good Luck - I am happy for you.

I have a paralyzed arm and experience a crushing pain about 100 times a day. I've tried the meds (neurotin, klonopin, lyrica, gabapenton, lorotab, roxicodone, opana) the last 2 I am still taking, and have not had much success in alleviating the nerve pain. The opana and roxicodone combo only provide a 10-15% improvement so I would not get your hopes up too much.

Its a great one I went from oxycondone 30 mg to opana ir 20 mg every 4 hrs for both nd had a great experience wich for the first couple days is jus from the switch of opiates since u become tolerant to each one. This one actually also states for opiate tolerant patients that have been on

oxycodone for a prolonged period of time or at higer doses. And again each persons situation nd pain is different so...... To each
thier own..... Yet this is a very hard situation to live thru nd every day is a challenge nd I think the best way is ti teeter totter nd rotate the immediate realease meds that way.you truly have more good days then bad nd function better. Another good thing is I know no one wants to take more meds but a good muscle relaxer is soma maybe one in am not all day so your sluggish but then two at nite helps from getting up in the middle of the nite.nd a good mood atabilizer prefferably non narcotic to help with with aggitation. Best of luck

***URGENT: Everybody, please, we need to all get together and DEMAND they re-do our chronic opioid pain medications! We need to start a petition, send emails, and make phone calls, because I have spent hours reading posts regarding the brand new concave Opanas (the new ones as of May 1, 2012), the same applies to the Oxycontin they changed.. PLEASE, I need fellow chronic pain sufferers out there who are running out of options, such as myself, we need to stand together and protest this to the people who can do something about it! Here is a message I wrote spur of the moment on an article about a "woman whose son died of Opana overdose"... I just got switched to Opana yesterday, after being on the newest Oxycontins for several months and not seeing results, and was extremely disappointed when I picked them up at the pharmacy (I have already tried Morphine and Fentanyl as well, they do not work, and methadone is not an option). Anyways, we MUST take action! Please pass this message on and tell others, we MUST help each other! Life is too short, we only live once, and it is bad enough living in pain and having to take pills around the clock, but then they go and change the medications completely to the point they are dangerous and ineffective. Here is what I wrote...***

What about those of us who are suffering because of people like this? We who live in chronic pain. Do people out there realize they have COMPLETELY reformulated Opana, Oxycontin, and other medications, to where they can no longer be crushed ? I am well aware of why they were being crushed and agree *something* needed to be done, but not this. As a matter of fact, the new formulation of these medicines are no longer working for patients like myself because our bodies are not able to digest the pills. The are hard as a rock, and they just gel up in your stomach and expand, whereas if the formula were the same as before, the drug would be released into your bloodstream and absorbed by your body. Those of us who live in chronic pain are suffering the most now! I am so outraged! It is horrible enough to live in agonizing pain, but add the fact that almost all the meds we have to choose from here in the USA are being completely changed and ruined! INEFFECTIVE! Google "opana reformulation" or "oxycontin reformulation", and read some threads on pain management forums, from people who have NEVER took a pill to get anything but some shred of relief for their pain, like myself. The newest ones out as of May 2012, are causing people to have stomach aches, many other negative effects; many are reporting that they have found whole pills in their toilet after using the bathroom, and I believe them! I am going to see if anyone has attempted a petition or something... just because there are people out there who have nothing better to do with their time than to abuse medications that were made the way they were for a reason, should not mean the legion of people who TRULY live in pain must suffer! Some people who have never used a needle in their life are asking on forums out there if they are going to have to turn to heroin for relief! Any thoughts or comments?
