Opana Ir Shortage

Updated

I have been making call after call trying to find my Opana IR 10mg meds. ENDO Pharm. was no help. They used to at least try to find the meds but as of one hour ago, they would no longer provide that assistance. I take six 10mg tabs a day and I am terrified of the pain intensity I am going to have to face. Not only that, but I'm hearing that going from 60mg a day to zero, could land me in the ER. If I can find the Extended release version in stock somewhere, would I just be able to get more of those until this shortage is resolved? Has anyone been allowed to do that? I'm getting fed a lot of "don't know". Any ideas?UWKCT

I feel your plight acl828, I usually take opana ir for breakthrough pain and have had a hell of a time finding it even in Chicago. Just ask your doc for a temporary ir med like morphine or even oxyir, or ask your pharmacist for a recommendation. Allegedly, the oxymorphone shortage is supposed to fixed this month, but I am not holding my breath. Best of luck!

...Withdrawal from opiate medication will not kill you, they will make you so sick you'll wish you would die...that is almost a quote from more than 1 of my Dr.s
alacohol(drinking type) can kill someone due to withdrawal...I am amazed again and again that Dr.s are not telling patients 2 important items... first- opiate pain meds. slow down, nrarly can stop you defecation. the bowels get sleepy. folks takr a laxative for that....and do not stop the med'.s immediately...also called 'cold turkey'..if you will...taper down over time..i have exp. stop cold withdrawal from oxycodone....over 450 mg. per day...nuts...horrible...so i have tapered down the dose over am few months. safe and MUCH MORE TOLERABLE....GOOD LUCK

It is dangerous to detox by yourself. You can have seizures, dehydration from vomiting, etc. It is not a wise decision to do so. I would not do it without the help of my doctor.

Chronic pain patient, took roxycodone for 2 years, switched to opana, couldn't find it last month. Switched to morphine. Nauseous from morphine's, got prescribed opana again. Tomorrow is 28 days and wondering where I can fill it. The sob pharmacist who filled it the month before last would only fill 90 out of 150 I was prescribed.pain mgt Dr was furious that the pharmacist played Dr with my meds. I'm tired of this, ever since june, and no roxycodone, life is hell. I'm in bed bc of the pain. Any suggestions would be appreciated I'm in SWFL. Thanks

The shortage is over... You should have no problems finding Opana ER & IR. Try calling specialty or compounding pharmacies that cater to hospice patients, as they will definitely have your meds in stock. You can't rely on regular pharmacies, such as Walgreens, CVS or grocery stores to consistently have these type of meds on hand...they don't do enough volume! I haven't had any problems getting Opana ER 40mg during the shortage period, which I stated before, is now over. Good luck and god bless you fellow pain sufferers!

It took me 6 hours and about 15 pharmacies to find opana 10 ir. It was a nightmare. I took a ride into next county, and found them at a small chain pharmacy. I asked if he would continue to serve me every month, and he was very kind and said yes. He stated he wouldn't fill roxycodone or dilaudid. Don't get that when opana is part oxycodone and part hydromorphone. They help me, not as well as the roxycodone 30 mg, and make me feel a little spaced out. It's really ridiculous that I now have to take a drug that costs 4 times more, isn't as effective, and makes me feel loopy. I'm not even comfortable driving on these damn pills. I'm seriously considering weening of this drug and just keep taking lyrica regularly, and flexeril as needed. I'm very tired of this sick game. I'm upset with myself, and upset with the dea, fda and and the pharmacists for playing Dr. The first stop I made was to Walgreens who served me for over 2 yrs. The pharmacist threw the script @ me and said " I'm not comfortable filling this". I asked her why, and she walked away. I asked to speak to store mgr, and she said she doesn't have to fill it if she isn't comfortable, and doesn't have to give a reason. I told her she was very rude and could've said that to me. The mgr apologized, and I'm sure they all had a good laugh that they got to deny another "junkie" their meds. On another thread here, there are people saying we're all addicts. I'm in pain, and posts in these forums to let chronic pain patients know they're not alone. I'm tired of being treated like crap, and tired of being judged. I pray legit patients can get the meds they need. This problem is only going to get worse. It will never be over, so to the person who posted above me, I don't know your location, but here in FL, it's worse than ever.

ARNIEMAX: You have been speaking to horrible doctors. Terrible (not to mention dangerous) information. While opiate withdrawal is not a direct cause of death itself, the added stress and physical changes in general that occur during withdrawal can very easily cause and/or aggravate other medical problems to the point of being fatal. Many times, even with regular medical care, these other problems aren't realized or don't even exist until the user goes into withdrawal and it's too late. For this reason, it's always best to consult a doctor, free clinic, E.R., or something if you're faced with the loss of your supply/source of legal OR illegal opiates.

Roxane Labs makes the Generic verision of the IR and I think it is better then the old pinks. I have been taking Opana for about 3 years and have had no problem getting the generics, even at chain pharms like Target/Costco
